Monica H. "This was my first, and most likely last visit to Villa Grande. I walked in and there was no wait. I was greeted and seated immediately. That's where the promptness ended. There was a couple that walked in shortly after me. While I sat at my table for over 15 minutes without anyone coming to my table, that couple that walked in behind me already had drinks, chips, salsa and their food orders taken. I was growing frustrated and about to get up and walk out, then a server came and asked me if I knew what I wanted to eat. I told her I was still waiting to order drinks. She said "ok, what do you want then?", she then took our drink order and food order at the same time. She left without taking the menus or leaving us utensils. Several minutes later, a man dropped off chips and salsa to our table. I'm not a fan of their salsa, I thought it was very bland. Needed some spice, salt, lime, or something. Their chips were also cold. They taste as if they came right out of the bag. Our server delivered our food to the table within 10 minutes, and that was literally the last time I saw her. She never came back.... Not Even Joking!!! No one came by to see if we needed anything, or refill our drinks. I waved down the hostess and asked for utensils so we could eat and asked her to take the menus that were still on our table. My veggie burritos were less than desirable. They had absolutely no seasoning and were literally cooked frozen veggies on a flour tortilla... no rice, no beans, no cheese, and no sauce inside. I had to wave down the manager to ask for some salsa to put on my burritos because they were dry and flavorless. When we were done eating, I waited a very long time for someone to bring me my check. No one ever came. So I put my credit card on the edge of the table, after some additional waiting, some random guy walked by and grabbed it. He said "I'll charge your card now". I never saw my bill before he took my card. He came back with a merchant slip for me to sign and thanked me for coming. Overall, I was very, very disappointed in my visit. The ambiance and decor of the restaurant was very nice and there is so much potential here, so I don't know how the ball was dropped on me. I definitely cannot recommend Ville Grande. After my poor experience, I don't think I'd ever come back. What a shame!"

Manda C. "Funny thing, this was the very first place we ate at in Denton but I haven't been here in years. After driving all night across the state with a Uhaul, our apartment was not ready and this place was walking distance from where we were parked. That's it, that's the only reason we came here, but it was our introduction to Denton cuisine. I have also eaten here several times after settling in, but it's been about 10 years since I've tried it.I think subconsciously I always think they are closed because their University location (Mi Casita Express) is more convenient for me and it has much shorter hours. That location is always closed when I'm over on Sunset or University, so by proxy I assume this location is, but it's open 7am until 10pm during the week. They close at 5pm on Saturday and are closed on Sundays. I've always used the drive thru, I find this parking lot a little tighter for accessing the drive thru than their Express location. It's also easier to access when heading North on Carroll.I've never found their service memorable in one direction or the other, except I have a few memories of them being slow, but the food is pretty cheap and pretty good for the price.I got the al la carte items this time around as I've only had their breakfast tacos and burritos in the past. I got a flauta for $1.89, a carne asada taco for $2.49, a side of rice for $1.89 and a side of beans for $1.89.Initially the order was given to me without the rice and beans... half the order. They fixed it, so no big deal, but if someone gets home before discovering the missing items that would be a huge nuisance. They give you complimentary chips and salsa with your order. The chips are thick, like I prefer, but they were getting a little stale and didn't have a lot of flavor. The salsa was okay, middle of the road. It would be a good option for someone sensitive to spice or heat, it's on the bland side. However, these chips and salsa came from a drive thru and are complimentary, so that fits with expectations rather well actually. The flauta was pretty good. I would have preferred it if the temperature was hotter, but it was still really good and worth the price. The rice and beans were extremely large portions for the price and were alright. The portion is so big, it can feed 2 or 3 people for sides, at least the beans could. The rice tasted a lot better than it looked, it appeared to be overcooked but it tasted just fine! The only thing I felt was overpriced was the carne asada taco. For $2.49 add some damn cheese or sour cream or something. It was just a scoop of carne asada that was drowned in way too much cilantro and onion, I had to remove most of it. The meat tasted fine but it needed some more flavor for the price. The other items were a really good price for the portion though! Not the greatest or the most consistent place, but not bad for a drive thru and decent for the price."

They boom boom sauce will open your sinuses but too it on a chicken enchilada and it's sooo delicious. Manda C. "I haven't been to this location in about 3 years or so. There are two simple and innocent reasons for why I don't come more often. First, I'm usually on my way somewhere and not hungry when I'm at this intersection. Also, their second store is much closer to my usual route and I've been content with frequenting that spot. However, stopping by on a Saturday morning just after 10am reminded me of all the things this location has to offer! First, for those of you passing through, this location is super easy for getting on and off I35 without disrupting your trip too much. It's next to the Care Now and behind the Dickey's in the corner of the strip.Second, this taqueria has a better layout and is less crowded with their seating, so it has a more relaxed atmosphere. Also, they have about four tables out front in a patio area. It's not covered, so that will depend on the weather. It is shaded in the mornings due to the height of the building. This location is extremely fast and that's actually harder to find in a taqueria setting, so they get major props for that! People had to go orders ahead of me and I still got my food within 5 minutes.I ordered the taco plate, which is my go to at both locations, and a medium agua fresca. With tax, this came out to exactly $10. I ordered the asada, pastor and carnitas. All 3 are executed a little better here than at the one on University, but it's just minor things. The asada is less chewy, the pastor is less greasy and the carnitas aren't as dry. The seasoning was on point for all 3, as I would expect from either location. Even the potato that comes with the plate is a little more flavorful. The beans, rice and agua fresca are about the same, which is to say very good and flavorful.I regret not getting the barbacoa. As we had stopped in on a whim, and a very nice lady was immediately ready to help me, I ordered off the top of my head as I scanned the list of meats. What I should have done is ordered the barbacoa. The barbacoa at the second location is the best I've had in Denton and I've never had it from here. Judging from everything else on this visit, I bet it would have been just as outstanding if not more so!They had 6 agua fresca's ready to go. I went with the Jamaica and it was quite good. They also had breakfast tacos stocked on the counter for grab and go. They have fountain drinks and bottled drinks and ready made desserts available as well. This Taqueria Monterrey is extremely organized and clean, I really like it a lot. It's a great stop for solid food and I'm glad I got a nice reminder of that with delicious agua fresca, yummy rice and above average, well seasoned meats. A 4 1/2 star experience that deserves to be rounded up for speed and service because you can see they are more prepared than many of the other local taquerias around."

Genevieve F. "First, this restaurant looks like a hole-in-the-wall but the food is quite delicious. It's less than a mile from the freeway, so it's also a good road trip restaurant. The food is eclectic but Mexican and hamburgers and chicken. I personally think that's great, because if someone isn't crazy about Mexican or isn't in the mood, there are choices. I must say you get one bowl of free salsa and chips, but the prices are so reasonable who cares? The bowl of salsa is plenty big, and it is warm and packs done heat. My friend ordered the cheese enchiladas which gone with queso Fresca inside. In case you don't know, this is a hard cheese that doesn't melt, so it's like having a piece of cheese inside a tortilla. She wasn't a fan.But we shared my shrimp quesadilla which was awesome. Melted cheese, decent sized shrimp and great flavor. This was a total win."

John B. "This place is slaying in the reviews, and I see no reason to dissent. The core of what they do is great in so many ways: tamales are pure Americana, a cuisine that goes back for thousands of years in the region. They are well suited to the modern world, and people with special dietary needs will find vegan tamales and no gluten. And it's fast, convenient food; mine were heated up in minutes.Ordering a platter with four tamales, I got two of the vegan ones with black beans and two bean and cheese. I could hardly tell the difference between the two, but they were certainly delicious, especially with salsa. More beans and rice on the side made for a filling meal, and at around $10, it's as good of a deal as you're likely to get.The one caveat is that they are not open particularly late, and from what I heard, online ordering closes an hour before close of business. So plan ahead, and head on over."

The chips were super stale and flavorless. I have a feeling they were leftover from a few days back. Every single little extra you order was expensive(i.e. Guacamole, salsa, chips, limes.)Onto the good, the shrimp fajitas I ordered were super tasty and came with a huge side plate with rice and beans. My friend ordered a fried fish that was bigger than the plate and super delicious. Despite a full house the wait time wasn't long. The salsa that came with the chips was super spicy and flavorful. Reminded me of what my grandmother used to make. The only downside were the day old stale chips. The michelada I ordered was also surprisingly good. One for the best I've had. Also the waitress despite being overworked and the only waitress working a full house was super nice and attentive. This isn't a bad restaurant to be honest. The food is good, but their are quite a few other Mexican restaurants down the road that are way better and more affordable. The cons outweigh the pros to the point I probably wouldn't visit again unless all the other restaurants in the are are full."

The fajita chicken is so juicy and full of flavor it keeps me coming back. And IMO the superstar is the salsa... I can't find any salsa that beats Migs salsa, warning it's spicier on the weekends, but for me it doesn't matter I always destroy their salsa, and we can't forget the warm freshly, made daily chips (I know because I used to work here).
