Blackie's on the Square

Saturday afternoon and the time was right for a late lunch in old downtown Glen Rose, Texas. Read the menu (chalkboard) of the day's specials, peeked in and the place seemed to have the ambiance of a laid back, easy going, curated decor, niche of comfy place to be. Decided to sit at this expansive beautiful wooden bar, had a couple drinks, placed our lunch order and visited while taking in the scenery. Excellent bartender (Camden or Caden?) took care of us. Wide variety of beers, okay set of wine and there were a few specials on mixed drinks. Didn't need an appetizer, went directly to the entree ordering. My Hubble ordered the Wagyu beef burger and fries, i ordered the Cobb salad and pasta fennel soup (it sounded exotic and different). Not long and there was the food! Husband said the burger was great, the fries so-so. I had to try them and I'd suggest after frying these homemade/onsite veggies I'd suggest air fryer to crisp them up. The salad was excellent and the clear broth veggie/pasta soup was over the top amazing due to herbs, limited spices and aromatics. Ended up meeting up with the chef on my way to the bathroom and he explained the recipe and options on making it. I think I'll just show up every so often for another bowl of that super duper soup.Parking was easy, walking along the sidewalk to and from was fine.

Wait staff is nice, attentive and friendly. Food just uninspiring. We had the Wagyu burger. How is this any different from a regular burger. There is none, no taste difference no texture difference nothing different except an opportunity to charge more. There was a piece of cheese on it that I can only describe as that toy doll that has the ability to stretch and stretch and stretch. How much plastic was in that cheese! The fries were cold. The ambiance was eclectic to say the most. Will not be going back.

I love this place! They recently rebranded to HH Supply Co! The food is always exceptional and the drinks are cold!! Lots of tv's with sports/rodeo/etc and a great spot to kick back and chill with friends. Check out the steak selection too!

Live the ambiance here! The servers and staff are amazing! Love coming here every time! Food is so good!

Horrible. Do not waste 2 hours of your time.We were sat and it took 20 minutes just for the waiter to say hello and then another 20 mins to get sodas and then 45 mins to get our food... it's 2pm mind you and only a few other tables were occupied. Flys are everywhere...then finally comes a tiny overpriced sandwich with 3oz of brisket in it and potatoes chips out of the microwave and just the nastiest & I mean NASTIEST Mac n' cheese I have ever had, covered in oil..couldn't get myself to eat it... soda's all tasted like they poured half the can and filled the rest of the glass with water. NEVER MIND THE SMOKE OF BURNT OIL COMING FROM THE KITCHEN, just overpowering your nasal passages for 2 hours engulfed in it.Best part was leaving. NO STARS.

great spot to drop in for a lunch. good food, good music and the drinks are great. Would definitely come here again.

Gotta go back when the weathers better because the drive home in a storm was scary but I'll definitely return for more great service and a good time! The tacos I had were delicious, the gals (Francis & Kylie) took good care of me and the decor & lighting in the establishment is perfect. PLUS the prices aren't painful with their good food&drink deals, so gotta love that!!

HEALTH CODE VIOLATION!! The cook (not a chef) was eating nachos, licking his fingers THEN making peoples food. Like grabbing a sandwich roll and buttering it just after licking his fingers! Disgusting! When he saw me look he hid under the counter in the kitchen so he could finish his chip. Bartender had no idea what the special was (domestic beer w/ nachos $11). I told the manager / owner(?) what I saw. He shook his head and laughed. I guess I expected a more serious response, but I do understand getting decent help these days is tough. Especially in a small town like Glen Rose. Great town by the way.We paid our bill for the beers becuase we just couldn't eat there after seeing what we did.

Great food! Decent service, just slower paced. Would come back again. Good find!

Blackie's on the Square handles large parties with ease! We have taken large groups numerous times and they always make us feel special! The food and drink selection is superb! Fun atmosphere all the way around!
