I love the ambiance of sushi bars, they are a nice escape from the busy hustle bustle of daily life! While the decor of Akaya matched that, the music playing was a little to upbeat to finish the ambiance description as relaxing. The music was modern though, so it was a marriage between new and traditional worlds.I ordered off of the lunch menu. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that I could order off of that me u on a weekend day, that is a plus for them in my book, as most restaurants in the Dallas/Fort Worth area do not offer that as a weekend option. My order was a Teriyaki Shrimp Bento. The Teriyaki Shrimp Bento Box started out with a cup of Miso Soup. They soup was flavorful without being salty. It had a lot of seaweed in it and I really enjoyed that. The box itself came with my Teriyaki Shrimp on a bed of vegetables, accompanied by a salad, rice, shrimp tempura, gyoza, and California Roll. Everything was delicious. My server Michelle did a great job. She was the only server on duty and 5 tables all sat at once, but she did not get flustered or make anyone feel rushed or forgotten.Overall it was a really nice experience and I would not hesitate to come back!

My friend and I went in during a weekday lunch. There were only a couple other guests aside from us, but service was still slow. That being said, the sushi was pretty decent! There is a generous amount of fish and less rice, which is what I prefer. The cuts of fish are also generously sized for the nigiris. The seafood was pretty fresh and good for the price. Overall, not my favorite sushi I've ever had, but I still enjoyed my meal.

Always good food from Akaya. I don't do raw but really enjoy the California roll, tempura roll and stuffed avocado. The best crab rangoon and seaweed salad. Others dining with me have liked their sushi, chicken katsu, chicken teriyaki and more. Have only done takeout. Portions are large. Appreciate the complimentary miso soup added to our order.

I don't know if it's a new trend starting with sushi but Akaya is the second spot where the rolls are the size of burritos. I think this accounts for the higher prices, which I understand and would be happy to pay if the quality was better. Akaya isn't premium sushi. The rolls may be massive, but the flavors are average. I don't even know if I'd pick this place for proximity's sake. It's across the street, but I want to taste better sushi so I'm willing to drive a couple miles. Because the rolls require you to dislocate your jaw, that ends up being the topic with friends rather than the taste. The restaurant itself is fine ambiance and decor wise, except that it was very empty and somewhat cold. I sat through an entire dinner and only two other single guests came. It was eerily quiet. Contributing to the eeriness was that our food took wayyy too long to make especially considering we were the only guests for quite a long while. I wouldn't commend this place for its service or kitchen. Maybe when there's only one table to serve you lose your juice, but for the kitchen that's no excuse to take your time.

This food was good and fresh. I really loved the stuffed jalapeño. Full of crab meat and great crunch on the outside. The sushi was fresh and light. NOW let's get the BAR( that's where we sat). We ordered a Jalapeño Margarita. First thing the waiter was following instructions on how to make it the drink. Once he made it our glass was half full. Next time we will not be ordering drinks!!

I'm glad we stumbled upon this place. The food was delicious and exceeded our expectations. The portions were generous in everything we ordered from the appetizer, the three sushi rolls, and the tonkatsu rice bowl. They don't skimp, that's for sure. We devoured the sushi rolls and brought home leftovers of the chicken karaage and tonkatsu rice bowl since we were stuffed. And when the bill came out, I was pleasantly surprised at the price...I really thought it'd be a lot more. Would definitely return!

Good selection of starters, sushi, rice bowls and ramen noodle bowls. We went around 2.30 pm on a Sunday and we had good service.

Was looking for a place close by to eat after with friends and stumbled upon Akaya. Walked in around 8pm and it was relatively empty, servers told us to sit anywhere. More people started coming in throughout our dinner and service was attentive. She was still in training but was very sweet and made sure we were taken care of!Food was okay in my opinion. Most of our table ordered ramen. I got the tonkotsu and it was a little watery to me. Egg was just sadly a normal egg and was actually hard boiled, not with the typical runny yolk or soft yolk like other places. Noodles were firm enough but again not my favorite. I tried the broth of the spicy miso and spicy garlic tonkotsu. Spicy mise ended up being my favorite of the 3 at our table. Spicy garlic was way too overpowering and you couldn't taste anything else. Sushi was alright as well. Ordered the yellowtail and it was decent enough. I haven't had bad sushi yet (thankfully) This place isn't too bad if you're just looking for a bite to fill you up. Service was good and prices are pretty average compared to other places as well.

We came tonight, Saturday, with four adults. Our waiter was polite and began with apologies every time he approached our table. Whqt we thought was him being overly nice, we should have taken as a sign of what was to come. This place was really focused on getting to go orders out the door. Our table ordered ramen and sushi rolls. Half our party has finished eating their ramen before the first roll arrived. It took a really long time, no one checked on us or gave updates and several to go orders went out the door before we were served. Once the food arrived it was fine; nothing special and certainly not worth over 15 for some of the rolls we had. They were huge but just not really very impressive . The inside of the restaurant was nice and seemed clean, but we won't be coming back based on our experience tonight.
