located inside kilowatt brewery! you can also make reservations online. the experience is so fun and it was exciting to go thru for the first time.i noticed that many of their drinks have somesort of "spice" to them. wether that be cinnamon or nutmeg and such. not the biggest fan but there's many more to chose from :)the lapis lapu was delicious! very fruity and tart! the painkiller was soo strong, we had trouble finishing this one!! inside is pretty small and intimate. there's cool tiki decor and the lighting really amplified the experience!

Forbidden Cove is located inside Kilowatt Brewery in the Kearny Mesa area in San Diego. We made reservations for a Saturday night and went to the bartender at Kilowatt Brewery when we arrived. He gave us a tiki idol key and told us where to find the secret door and how to use it to open the door.We ordered the three dots and a dash ($17), the missionary's downfall both on the rocks and blended ($16), and the X-15 ($15). All of the drinks were just okay; the blended missionary's downfall was pretty diluted from extra ice, and the other drinks were nothing to write home about. We also got the scorpion bowl for 2-3 people ($36) which was probably my favorite drink of everything we tried. It was dangerous because we couldn't taste the alcohol but it was definitely there. The drinks were average but the interior was colorful and the secret entrance/passage was a cool touch.

First time going to this Kilowatt Brewing location and it's vastly different than their location in Ocean Beach. It's much smaller and it felt like everyone who was in the main room, was just waiting around until they were called into Forbidden Cove. We didn't make any reseravations ahead of time and so we talked to the bartender and they put our name down. We waited about 20-30 minutes. They hand you a tiki totem with a scanner on it and that unlocks the door into the hidden bar. We were greeted by the hostess and she took us to our seats. The aesthetic inside is what you would expect from your classic Tiki Bar. Tiki heads, colorful lights, palm trees, etc. Definitely has a hokey charm to it. The space inside isn't very big either with a few tables and seats around. The layout is interesting and 'skinny' so there is no standing room whatsoever. For drinks, the hostess took our order and the drinks arrived pretty quickly afterwards. We got the Royal Hawaiian and Lapu Lapu. Both were really nice! The Royal Hawaiian was unique since it had a slight marzipan flavor to it. Overall I think Forbidden Cove is a cool and intimate place that's great for small groups.

We came here at 5pm on a Saturday and it was not busy. We didn't have a reservation but they let us in. The cocktail was okay but the poke tower was INSANE! It was a big portion and it was plated so aesthetically. There was gold dust on it! I recommend ordering the tower!

I didn't know this existed! One of my friends went here, so of course, I had to check it out! This is a Hawaiian themed speakeasy within Kilowatt brewery. Love the theme and its small and intimate with a lot of Hawaiian art around. Dranks:Scorpion Bowl. Ok, this is strong! Sip it slowly, bartenders give loose pours!Food:I had the chicharonnes and huapia. This was okay. Customer service is great, the servers were super friendly. There's plenty of signs so that you can easily find the hidden door.

A bit cramped inside, slow service (and forgot something so I had to go ask), and very meh food. Didn't have a speakeasy feel, but more like a "hey, we have extra storage room, let's decorate it with a budget of X dollars"

Last visit of the year! Went around open, they got busy fairly quickly. The seating is based on party size, so anyone 4 or less sits on the middle and groups larger than that sit next to the tiki god. Since there wasn't anyone else we were able to sit closer to the tiki god which is a cool little area. They had a very large food menu with mostly poke and spam. Tried the spam nachos, it was a hearty portion for $16 but felt like it was missing something, maybe guac or sour cream.Drinks:Of course we had to get the scorpion bowl again, this is so good but pricey at $36.Royal Hawaiian - this was a-okay, floating flower was pretty.Three dots and a dash - $17. too bitter, not my thing, wouldn't get again. We'll be back!

First time here so I already knew I might miss the door to the speakeasy. Thanks to the bartender at Kilowatt for giving good directions so we weren't lost. Did take longer taking pictures going through the door lol. The place is BEAUTIFULLY decorated so any seat is a good seat. I ordered the spam tacos and my friend the hotdog. I wanted something different and thought the tacos would be good. If you are ok with sweet then the tacos will be ok. As for me I do not like sweet tacos or sweet meats. They weren't bad just sweet wasn't what I was looking for and should have guessed it would be since it is a tiki or Hawaiian bar. As for the drinks .... Oh they were good! Even the mocktail my friend ordered. I forgot the name of the drink I ordered, but it has pineapple juice and coconut cream. I'm definitely coming back for drinks. No issues with parking (they have a lot and there's street parking).

Cute and fun atmosphere here! Our waitress was great and gave several recommendations on drinks. We enjoyed all of the drinks we ordered and they even did something fun for our friend's birthday!

I don't remember having eaten anything but the mock painkiller I had was excellent and so was the waitress Nicky. The ambiance was as you probably already guessed outstanding, love the portals and the Hawaiian painting of the wave, (looks to be a black light painting.) The place certainly gave me ideas for my own tiki place, still in progress. All in all we had a great time at the Forbidden Cove. We shall be back again...
