Filippi's Pizza Grotto Scripps Ranch

We have gone to many of the Filippi's restaurants over 40 plus years. This was my first time to this one even though it is so close to where we live. My husband had been before for a work happy hour years ago. We have heard for years that it's the go to place for Prime Rib. It was his birthday so this is where he chose to finally go to see if it was true. He said "it was the most tender piece of meat he had ever eaten and it definitely lived up to all of the hype". The regular portion was enough that we could have shared it as we brought home more than I would have eaten if we had. My eggplant parm sandwich was delicious. I could only eat 1/2 of it. I did request a side of marinara to add to it as I like a little more sauce than it came with. Their marinara is very good too. I had an Italian Spritzer as my beverage and it was really good. Drink prices are very reasonable. We sat in the lounge/bar. Very Old School cool vibeOur waiter Joel was wonderful. Very attentive. We were too full for dessert so declined getting any and he was very sweet and gave us a Togo slice of their carrot cake to take home. He said it's his favorite dessert there. Oh my goodness. I am so glad he treated us to that. It is soooo good. It has coconut in it and so moist and delicious. I will definitely order it again. I am so glad we finally gave this location a try.

Known for pizza and pasta... this Filippi's also serves prime rib and a rack of ribs. Omg such huge portions too. Meals came with salad and garlic bread. We both could only eat half (me 1/4) of our meals. The rest we took home. Yay for leftovers.The only negative I have about this place is that it's very dim inside. I think that's the ambiance they are going for, but hard to read the menu for some (like my bf).

Me and my family haven't been to Filippi's in Scripps ranch in years.As all local San Diegans know that they have the best prime rib in town! Went here today to celebrate my mother's 70th birthday and I'm glad we did. We had the best server, Diane!From start to finish she was such a joy!! My mom did not want to advertise her birthday but I went ahead and did it lol Diane ended up buying us dessert and of course we chose the Italian ice cream... Oh it was delicious.The prime ribs were delicious according to my brother and father. My mom ended up ordering the white sauce linguine which was very good I ended up ordering the salmon with vegetables, which was delicious a great low-fat meal! I also asked for no butter and there was no butter lolHighly recommended and will definitely come back, as for Diane you will not be disappointed!

I've heard good things about the prime rib here so I had to try it out. We ordered a regular cut and shared between two people. It was plenty for both of us. The meat was tender but not as flavorful as I expected. I liked veal parm as it's juicy, tender and cheesy. The spaghetti with meat sauce was a bit sour for my taste. The restaurant is dark in general. I liked the decorations, got a nostalgic kind of feeling. The waitress was friendly. Overall experience was ok but I don't think it's a place I would visit on a regular basis.

This is our go to restaurant. Always looking for great restaurants but nothing compares to Filippi's !!

Went today with coworkers for lunch. They have a good lunch menu. Half sandwiches with seasoned or steak fries. I got the half prime rib sandwich with steak fries and it was delicious. They gave creamy and straight horseradish which I used all of both..love the stuff. They also have half orders of all the pastas. The service is great (miss you Annie)...the food is always great! Love that they keep the decor and keep that cool vibe. If you want to catch some of the game or chill at the bar this is a great spot. The people who I had lunch with...we have been having lunch here since the late 80's.

Met my friends for dinner last night and to be honest I been wanting to try their Prime Rib Dinner even though I do favor their pizza. My running partner mentioned her husband loved their prime rib and showed me a pic. So I've been wanting to come to this location for a while, I don't see the prime rib option in Little Italy or Clairemont locations. I ordered the Regular Cut (16 ounces) and it came with a baked potato or pasta. I selected the baked potato and with it came sour cream, horse radish, butter and chives. Mushrooms upon request at no extra charge, It also came with a salad and garlic bread - all for $31.50. It was all very good and you can't beat the price. Most restaurants that serve the type of prime rib I ordered charge individually for most of the additional items I listed. This location also has the best antipasto salad and their Italian dressing is a favorite of mine. I use to order extra dressing to go with my salads I make at home. Lastly I split an order of Spumoni Ice Cream. It was $7.00 and much more authentic and tastier than the $16.00 spumoni I had last week at a higher end restaurant. It was cherry ice cream with bits of dried cherry fruit (YUM), pistachio (so nutty) and chocolate This combo is my favorite. Last week mine came with strawberry and vanilla ice cream with barely any dried fruit or pistachio nuts - although it was "prettier." I will take two scoops (really four scoops because I split my dessert) anytime! This restaurant has been around for many years and is not very fancy. It has a very local feel because locals flock to it. Server was very friendly, attentive and everyone enjoyed their entree. No one ordered pizza but maybe because the last time we met up at the Little Italy location and we all ordered pizza.

Family decided to have lunch here at Filippi's Scripps Ranch. We ordered their lunch specials; lasagna, rigatoni, meatball sandwich as d prime rib sandwich. Everything we ate was good. My meatball sandwich was warm and it came with seasoned fries, which was crunchy on the outside and soft inside. The prime rib with aujus sauce was tender and came with fresh salad. The rigatoni with meat sauce was just the right portion and the lasagna was tasty. Customer service was great. The young man checked on us and was friendly. The area where we sat was a bit dark but it was fine. They also have a bar area and outside seating if you want to eat outside. Overall, had a nice lunch.

Not all Filippi's pizza are the same. Apparently this location is the best as far as food and atmosphere. They have the formal dining room and lounge area with the bar if you want to chill. A lot of the locals come here to hang out.Did you know that they have a secret menu? We ordered from the regular menu. We got wings, ravioli and lasagna. Both the ravioli and lasagna had the same sauce. I wouldn't order that combo again. The wings were dry rub, large, and juicy.We didn't find the food to be that great but the atmosphere was the place to be that evening. We will for sure be back to join the locals and order spicer wings.

After having a less than perfect experience a week ago, I decided to give Filippi's another try since at heart, their food is good. I brought my family in for a weekday lunch to celebrate a birthday. We came on a Thursday around noon. The restaurant was pretty empty as it had only opened an hour ago. We were seated right away and since we knew what we wanted (prime ribs of course!) we got our orders in promptly. I have to say, the second time around, it was a flawless experience. This time, our primeribs were cooked perfectly to a medium rare. My mom even said this was one of the best prime rib she's ever had. The service was impeccable. Our server (I regret not paying attention when she introduced herself) was respectful and courteous and most importantly, efficient. Overall, just a great experience. I'm glad I decided to come back. I'm sure I will be coming back frequently.
