Filippi's Pizza Grotto Kearny Mesa

Ordered food to go and it was packaged well and done quickly.My wife got the Tortellini and it was good, but a little bland. She likes their seafood linguini better which is full of flavor.I got the Super Torpedo sandwich. It was ok. Will try something else next time.

Place is big inside and right off the freeway. Can't see it getting too busy so you should always be able to get in. Stopped by for lunch and there was plenty of seating. I went with a sausage sandwich with fries. It was pretty good just wish it came with some onions or peppers or something. A little too much sauce for me but still a tasty bite for lunch. The service was great both waiter and manager checked on our table multiple times to make sure we were good. My colleagues got the lunch personal pies which surprisingly didn't have the classic 2" thick cheese haha.

So, I gave Filipis in Clairemont Mesa another shot - third time's the charm, right? The joint's got a spacious setup with ceilings like dining in the Bat Cave - dark and mysterious.Service? Decent, but our server was juggling more than a circus clown on a unicycle - spread thin but friendly vibes all around.Now, onto the main event: the food. Tried the linguini and clams, and let's just say it was like chewing on rubber bands dipped in water - overcooked pasta, flavorless clam sauce, and clams that were as lively as a snoozing sloth.Thought maybe the manicotti would save the day, but nah, it jumped on the flavorless train too. Sour sauce and seasoning MIA.Even the pepperoni pizza, usually a safe bet, missed the mark. Thick, doughy crust that's more pillow than pizza, and about as exciting as watching paint dry.Three strikes, and I'm outta here! Just not my cup of marinara, but hey, I will say I know a few people who love Filippis so each their own :)Welp! Onwards and upwards to the next adventure!

We have frequently here a half of dozens of times. We have also been to two other locations as well. This location has been our favorite. Somehow, we always park our car and enter the wrong door! We ended up walking thru to the main entrance to be seated. ;)It seems like an older establishment. For us, it feels homey. Nice decor and clean. I didn't catch the waitress's name, but she's the only one we've encountered. She's super sweet and friendly. I absolutely LOVE their pizzas. We ordered the meat lovers and the white sauce pizzas. One pizza was more than enough for the two of us. We just love leftovers so we ordered two!Overall, a nice pizza place to be with family or friends. They offer more than pizzas. They even have a nice selection of wines! Ample parking and clean bathrooms. Friendly service is a bonus!

I attended a friend's 60th birthday celebration with around 20 people present. We had a private room reserved and our server Sasha remained cheerful throughout the event. She served us a large sausage pizza, a Margherita pizza, a stunning Antipasto salad, chicken fettuccine, spaghetti with marinara, and garlic bread. It was only my third time dining at Filippi's, so I sampled a bit of everything. The salad, which I had tried before, was my favorite. I also enjoyed tasting the pizzas. I left room for the delicious spumoni dessert that never fails to impress. The highlight of the evening was honoring my wonderful friend and enjoying the company of great people. Had so much fun I forgot to take pics of food! Ooops!

I attended a company event here. Filippi's is large and can accommodate big groups of people. They also make food in a way that best serves large parties. I would say that Filippi's is very much quantity over quality. The food isn't the best, but they provide large, filling portions. All the classics are there and the service is great!Also love that there's accessible parking here!

Husband had pizza cravings one night and ordered delivery. Scheduled it for the next afternoon and it came just in time.He got the Vegetarian Pizza with Pepperoni. Really good pizza!Good amount of toppings, and also good amount of cheese. They put the veggies and pepperoni first and then the cheese on top with wad a little weird tbh.Cheese seemed to come off the top when biting into the slice. Would have been perfect if the cheese was under the toppings.Thick fluffy crust which was really crispy when reheated in the air fryer. Good even 2 days later!

I had the opportunity to try out Filippi's while on a work trip. A group of 7 of us arrived right before noon as the restaurant was starting to get busy. The staff seemed pretty frazzled and shared that they were unexpectedly short-staff due to people being out sick. Even so, they apologized for the wait and we were seated after about 30 minutes. Tables were clearing but they didn't have enough staff to clean them up.Again, the waitress seemed a little overwhelmed when she came over to take our drink orders. We were ready with our food orders as well, so she took those at the same time. I opted for the chicken pesto personal pizza from the lunch menu and also asked to redeem the complimentary order of garlic bread from Yelp to share with my coworkers.The food arrived after about 15 minutes. The rest of my group had also ordered various items from the lunch menu and said they enjoyed them. The garlic bread was a big hit and I maybe liked it even more than the pizza itself.The portions were reasonable and I had a couple slices left to pack up. We were able to split our check by person, which was greatly appreciated. We walked up to the front counter to pay individually. It wasn't the best meal nor the best service I've ever had, but a solid place to eat with a larger group. The menu is large and seems to have something for everyone. Service-wise, I imagine the waits are shorter when they are fully staffed and we caught them on an off day.

Wife ordered food for delivery (uber eats). Filippi's forgot to put our garlic bread and also our requested Parmesan cheese condiment in order. An Italian restaurant that can't get garlic bread order or cheese condiment request right, two staples of Italian food ........yeah that's bad. won't be eating here again . And no this isn't Uber eats mistake.
