I practically have my own parking spot I go there so often. I even know the servers and which days they have off. But then again Extraordinary Desserts has been my favorite dessert place in San Diego since the 1990's back when I was in college. And now it's even more improved and flavorful with the popular flavors like salted caramel, chocolate raspberry, mocha mousse, and strawberry shortbread, chocolate croissant pudding...It's a bit overwhelming because EVERY CAKE looks so beautiful and the descriptions sound so TEMPTING that it's difficult to choose. I typically end up going with my gut feeling and ordering a variation of dark chocolate cake combination. I have seriously tried them all throughout the uncountable times I've been there. Grand Dame, Malted Chocolate...Beautifully decorated and accentuated with fresh rose petals the cakes do not disappoint visually. Get your camera out and be ready to take some videos and photo snaps. To go with your dessert selection you'll definitely want to order their 'house coffee' and take the time to dine in, sipping your strong house coffee from a real cup and saucer, and chipping away at your decadent dessert. I usually eat half of my dessert (no sharing allowed) and take the other half home with me. Be prepared to have an über-productive afternoon or sleepless night because you will have a sugar caffeine buzz of productivity afterwards! Though I have to say that I have had stale tasting chocolate cakes and sauces from time to time. Most people probably wouldn't notice but I can taste staleness especially in chocolate. So what I do now is I order from chocolate cakes that have not been cut into and I select items which are freshly put out, and have not had a chance to become stale.Karen Krasne the executive pastry chef opened extraordinary desserts and won several awards back in the days before it was vogue to be a pastry chef let alone a female pastry chef. So she's definitely my heroine. Now of course Extraordinary Desserts has two locations the one on Fourth Ave. in Bankers Hill, just two blocks from the original location. And a second location on Union Street which is enormous and also serves full meals. But I like to stick with the desserts and therefore my go to is the Fourth Street address. But definitely don't take my word for it. Try it out for yourself- and I'll see you at Extraordinary Desserts!

The desserts were great, and the service was prompt and clean. Plenty of seating indoors and out. Good vibes; this is the smaller location that's opened later.Got a slice of the golden wahine for $12.50 The description was enticing yet, but it was delightful and had a nice crust.

This is such a cool place to go after lunch or dinner (not sure how late they are open). The display of the different desserts are so tempting. But my go to is their chocolate bread pudding. I am a huge fan and splurge myself once in a while with this rich dessert. You order food at the counter and they bring it to you at the table. I am not sure if it is because of homelessness or dogs but the outside patio smelled like urine, so I had to sit inside.

I liked the tea best. The waitress said that we can steep the tea two times for the flavor to last. That's not a thing. The flavor was gone. Soft aroma is all that is left.I did like the taste of the two tea flavors A black tea golden mermaid was very good, smells incredible and a second tea was called peachy green.

Was in San Diego for work, and heard people talk about Extraordinary Desserts. It was not too far from the hotel, so I headed over there. Wow. The most beautiful concoctions - cakes, pastries, pies, and so forth. Also, it seemed to be an after work hangout in downtown SD - lots of professionals sipping their drinks and enjoying a little sweetness.I got the sugar bun and the golden milk (non-caffeinated). They were both delicious - I ended up taking quite a bit back to the hotel because the portions were decent sized. I finished them the next morning lol.Check them out!

Was visiting San Diego and after a little walk on the Spruce St suspension bridge I had a sweet craving and discoverd this place on Yelp. They have a great assortment of beautiful desserts. Tried the Dame Chocolate cake & the apple crostata and both were delicious. Prices are fair for the quality & size of their desserts. I can't wait to go back next time I'm in the area to try more of their treats!

Our first time at this location, we usually go to Little Italy. We were pleasantly surprised by the similar decor to Little Italy so it felt familiar. We went during an off time and had excellent, attentive service. There was a good selection of cakes and pastries without getting overwhelmed by too many choices. My friend thoroughly enjoyed her Creme Brûlée and coffee. I decided this year is my year to venture out and try new things. While I always get something chocolatey this time I ordered the Passionfruit Ricotta Cake and an iced latte. I thought the cake was excellent but unfortunately the beautiful fruit sauce was too tart and sweet for me. Looking forward to the next time and will try something new again!

Been a while since we were last here. Arrived at around 8 pm, and it was busy. Luckily, we were able to grab an indoor table. Went with the La Bete Noir - dark chocolate and rich. Forgot the name of the other cake, but it had strawberries and a tropical fruit filling. Light and also good. To me, the cakes are too rich for one person alone. We shared 2 cakes among 4, and it was plenty.
