Emerald City Fish & Chips

Emerald City is a fantastic, local option for fish n chips in Seattle. This family business really treats the community well; I've seen how kind the service is to all its customers, regulars and newbies alike, and they even sponsor the local little league. The store is rather small though (6 counter seats and a couple outdoor picnic tables), so I've seen a decent amount of people opt for takeout. Prices are the best you'll find for fish n chips and fries are nicely dusted. The quality of the food is solid, though not always the most consistent. Out of all the fish, the halibut is usually the most moist and tender and I'd definitely skip the catfish and salmon. Crab hush puppies and shrimp po-boy are elite, must-try, but clam strips are kinda mid. Chowder is good and it's especially nice on chilly days.Overall, a well-deserved Seattle classic.

Emerald City Fish n Chips is the only Fish n Chips restaurant near Columbia City and next to the Safeway on Rainier. Prices are more reasonable than other Fish n Chips businesses or bars. When I was there eating, they knew all the regular customers. One lady off the bus came and helped herself to a water cup size soda without buying anything. Two young students came in that they knew also helped themselves to free soda. So it seemed like they allowed these non paying people and treated them to a small cup of soda. It's been a long time since I've eaten here. The original owner would spice up the fries. They stopped seasoning the fries it seemed. But the cod was really good. Each order includes a small cup of coleslaw which was nice. It's not on the online menu as included. They put a thousand island dressing too instead of the normal ketchup. My hush puppies did not have much crab in it. I did ask if they used real crab or the artificial crab. He said AK King Crab. It was mainly batter inside. They knew the two other customers that came to get Take out who live near by. There is free parking in front. If it's full, there's a big lot across the st. You can come by the No 7 bus from Dtown, ID or Rainier Beach that runs every 10 mins during the day. Then if you need Gas, Groceries, T-Mobile Service, or shop at Ross it's next door. So this joint is located near other businesses and the Licensing office to get your car tabs.

I saw all of the great reviews, and I saw that it was all gluten free (amazing!) and I was so excited to try it. We tried both the halibut and cod. Much to my disappointment, the halibut was VERY dense and not very enjoyable to eat. I thought the cod was pretty good. The pieces weren't very large so we underestimated how much food we were going to need for our group. I'm not sure I will be back but again, I'm very thankful that this place offers gluten free fish and chips - you don't find that in too many places.

Love the food here. Some of the best fishn chips I have had. The French fries are awesome as well. Everything was cooked fresh. Their oyster poor buy was tasty and all the portions were great. The service was prompt and pleasant. I highly recommend if you love fish chips.

Great service. Great Food. Great Ambiance. Regardless if you're in the area or not you need to stop on by and give them a try. You will not be sorry, definitely will be back.

This place may not be in a busy area, but thanks to WORTH IT. one of the best YouTube shows ever, I made it to the emerald City thanks to Steven, Adam, and Andrew from the show recommending to the viewers to come. The show recommended to get the salmon chowder and salmon and chips. They were not wrong. Some of the best food eaten. Owner Steve knows what he's doing!

FISH is KIND OF DRY(3.25 stars)- FOOD: fish is fry, everything else is great - PRICES: very fair- SERVICE: excellent - AMBIANCE: tinyNot my go-to place in Seattle for fish and chips but decided to try this place out due to the reviews. I haven't lived in Seattle since I went to college at UW - many yrs ago. This area use to be hood-hood, now it's hood with a lot of gentrification all around. :: SERVICE ::It was good. Came in, ordered, food came out quickly. They were generous to give me a complimentary sample of their salon chowder (by the way is delicious AF). Also was very kind to give me a small cup to get a drink. :: FOOD ::HALIBUT FISH AND CHIPS ($12.95) - i ordered a 2-pc and received a 5-pc. I love halibut fish and chips but it is just ok here. The fish was firm as expected but dryer to my liking. Didn't feel like there was any moisture in the fish. The outer layer was nicely fried with good seasoning. The fries were good though.I am never in Seattle. I probably travel to WA every 3 years but if I ever am in the area I would like to try other items.

BEST FISH & chips I've ever had!!! The Alaskan Cod is a must try, Juicy & crisp. Comes With plenty of fries. The two guys working behind the counter were super kind, amazing service. This our first trip to Seattle & i highly recommend! Note- there is only outdoor seating and bar style sitting. Not super convenient for kids. More of a grab & go spot !

WHAT A SPOT! I'm surprised that it was not as busy as it was. The guy manning the front was kind and really held his ground, I applaud him for his hard work and dedication. We had a lot of food items on our order; halibut, cod, and salmon fish and chips, one salmon burger, and an order of the chowder. The had great flavor and bite, especially paired with that tartar sauce. THE CHOWDER was amazing. It had some zesty flavors to it.
