We wanted so much to like this place. Both of us drive by it almost everyday. There is a big sign on the outside that says "corn". So we were thinking Mexican street corn or roasted corn. My mouth watered every time I read it. Finally we popped in. Tiny little joint with maybe 6 tables. Menu was scribbled over with changes in price and choices. But...no corn. No elote, no Mexican street corn. Not all taco meat selections were available. We ordered at the counter. I got enchiladas. Wife got tacos. Ya know it's really not even worth dissecting the meals. They were average and unimpressive. It took forever for them to come out.The choices of salsas they brought us was the best thing about the meal.Another patron came in with his daughter and ordered a lot of tacos. He said to her they were his favorite tacos in town. So it just goes to show everyplace has fans. We are not fans of this place.

We visited this restaurant by default when the one we'd planned to visit was closed, and we're so glad we did. The food was excellent (including homemade tortillas), and the service was exceptional. We'll definitely be back and can't wait to work our way through the rest of the menu.

FAIRLY GOOD MEXICAN FOOD IN A LITTLE CAFE WITH MAMA DOING THE COOKING. This little cafe is not much on ambiance or service, which accounts for it being ranked FORTY-THIRD (43rd) on the 2018 Mr. Sensitive list of Mexican restaurants around town when considering the full dining experience, but the food is actually pretty good. When I visited the place was run by one woman who not only took orders but also prepared the food, brought it to my table, etc. In other words, she did it all! This owner, manager, cook was a pleasant woman whose first language is not English but she spoke it well enough. She never checked back after I received my food, but considering the situation she did a yeoman's job. Nice lady.Inside the restaurant is tiny and kind of cramped but it is bright and clean enough. You order at the counter and then find a table. The menu is mostly Mexican food of the north Mexico variety: chicharrones, asada, al pastor, carnitas, tortas, burritos, and enchiladas. They do offer burgers. No chips or salsa were served with the meal.....that being more an American thing. The drinks came from bottles and cans from a cooler. I ordered an ASADA TORTA and a BISTEK and POTATO BURRITO. The torta bun was warmed on the grill. It had good flavor but it was not substantial enough to pick up and eat the sandwich with the hands. I had to use a knife and fork to consume it. There was lettuce, tomato, onion, and a bit of avocado in the sandwich. The chopped up steak had a nice seasoning and overall the torta was fairly good. Was it one of the best tortas in town? No, but it was fairly good. The large bistek burrito had some nicely seasoned beef in it and a lot of potato. The potato chunks were properly par-boiled but they could have used more seasoning. The burrito's tortilla seemed to have been microwaved or steamed as it lacked texture. I could not pick it up to consume it as it just flopped over with each try. Like the torta, I was forced to eat the burrito with a knife and fork. But, flavor wise, this was a pretty decent burrito. What to expect if you go: A tiny little place somewhat short on ambiance, one person doing most of the work, and Mexican food that is pretty good overall but obviously not outstanding. But, it may be worth a visit.Restaurant rating = THREE STARS.....meaning, at least the equal if not better than many fast food places.

In Cruces for work, and always looking for authentic tacos. Welcome Inn Cafe didn't disappoint. I had a combo of pastor and azada. The meat was well prepared, served on soft corn tortillas, with a delicious creamy green, spicy salsa. Definitely recommend for any fan of authentic tacos.
