On a recommendation from a friend, I gave this a try. You figure it's a Mexican restaurant, and there are plenty here. Some good and some not so good. But if you follow me, hint hint, I inly try the tacos. Today, I had the grilled chicken tacos and then also tried the fish tacos. Both were very good. This is another place to put on your to go list for Mexican restaurants. The place is easy to miss on Doniphan with all the road construction, so you may need to google the location.

2.5 stars not just 2 Riviera is what I'd call tourist mexican food. It's as good as you'd get driving to las cruces so if you're in El Paso you can at the very least save the trip to old mesilla for the same food. The food isn't bad it's just not great either. For people traveling through El Paso if you want something that's more authentic than chueys or I don't know pick you national Mexican Food chain. The Riviera is better than that. They have decent margaritas but tell them no sour mix and to go light on the agave sweetener. The mexican combination plates are what I'd suggest. For less than $20 you bet a taco, a chile relleno, enchilada, tamale with rice & beans. None of the Chile/Salsas are hot. On the spice level I'd say a strong medium at most. Like I said great for tourist.

So we called to make sure that they are still open and a guy and answered and said they are open until 9pm and when we arrived their door is closed. No wonder their rating is really bad.

So my Super Bowl game day diet plan was to have a good protein packed breakfast. I had not been to The Riviera in several years. It was on my way home from Church, and they do have traditional pancakes etc, but I knew they would have good protein selections. I was right- they have a menu item that features a 10oz ribeye, two eggs cooked anyway you like, your choice of hash browns, beans or green chili potatoes, and toast for $16! As is traditional with El Paso Mexican restaurants, they bring you chips and salsa with your beverage. After a short wait, the breakfast platter came out- it was huge! The best part was the steak smelled and looked like it just came off the grill. It was a thin steak but cooked perfectly to my request- medium rare. The green chili potatoes were delicious without having to add salt or pepper and the eggs were perfect. My waiter made sure my coffee cup stayed full.Service - excellent, food - outstanding! Now I am ready to turn my head away from empty calories at my game watch parties (yes I am house hopping today).

My wife was raised in El Paso and visited here regularly in the 60's and 70's so while we spent the night in El Paso on our way to Arizona, this was a must stop. They have been around since 1938 I believe. The neighborhood, the restaurant and owners have changed since she was last there. My wife ordered the Chile relleno and I had enchiladas. Both were very good. This is authentic Mexican food. Service was friendly and attentive. Give them a try if your in the area.

I have been going to the riviera Rest. for ever. Saturday morning went in at 1045 am for breakfast. Wanted a pancake as have been on gluten free diet. Ordered Two eggs soft scrambled, sausage, hash browns and one pancake. Long time coming. When arrived eggs were well done, sausage almost raw, hash browns barely done, no pancake and food cold. Got pancake later after I gave up on other food. Mary was the waitress whom I have known for ever and think the world of. She offered to give me discount but I declined. I have been faithful customer for over 35 years. Our group of five meet there every Monday at noon and first Tuesday every Month. Know cooks are hard to find but today was not good. Oct. 26, 2024. Not looking for free meal just thought you need to know,

The food was very average. I had the machaca, it was good. Tortillas were grocery store bought, salsa was not house made... so all in all not the worst place, but definitely not the best!!! Keep looking

Went for dinner this evening and was looking forward to the The Riv Puntas de Filete. I was very disappointed meat was overcooked and not good at all. Talk to the waitress and she talked to the manager and they just told me to pick something else so I decided to go with a shredded beef tacos and brought them home. They were not good very salty and the tacos were literally broken in half very disappointed and I had to pay for them. Manager never came out.
