The Legendary Barn Door Steakhouse

I dined in for lunch at The Barn Door. I love the theme and the restaurant was very clean. I wish I'd stayed longer to learn more about the history and decor. The customer service that I received was absolutely exceptional. I don't remember my waitress' name, but she was the perfect waitress. The bread was so good that I forgot I had placed my order. Lol. I ordered a steak and a baked potato. The steak was good just like I like it. Although I wasn't a fan of the baked potato, it didn't take away from the overall experience. I will definitely dine here again.

The food was terrible. Steaks was under cooked. The rice was just plain not cooked at all. Had to be the smallest catfish grilled of any restaurant in West Texas. I mean snack size portions for full price. We sat for an hour before we got drinks. Food came at 8pm we got there at 6pm. One server for a table of 20 plus people. Then the manager wants to come make jokes as entertainment. To distract us from the horrible food and service. This was Saturday night. I see why they have less business on weekends. Didn't even try to comp. That 600 plus bill for that horrible experience. I won't be going back ther ever again! Felt like getting robbed in yo face! This woman should be compensated for that horrible experience on her birthday. Her steak was so under cooked. She sent it back after the way to long wait. Then it still came back under cooked again. Felt so sorry for her!

Okay, this is my most recent review of the Barn Door. Keep in mind this is my honest opinion. So I'm not trying to be rude for anybody's enjoyment. This to hopefully give the owners an insight on what their loyal customers are thinking. Everybody who has read my review from the past knows that it was one of my favorite places to go to. And I never hesitated to recommend the place to anybody. Now... I am deeply disappointed in the place. The last three times has been money wasted. And sadly there won't be a fourth. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. I highly recommend them going back to the way it was two years ago. When the steaks were aged and you could cut it with a butter knife. The baked potato is still very good and baked like it's supposed to be. However, my wife's baked potato had a hair in it. We didn't notice it until my granddaughter was using her fingers to get it out her mouth. And I noticed that the grill wasn't being used. This was a first time in four years. And I've been there to eat at different times of the day. I had ordered a "Pittsburg medium rare" instead I got an under medium rare. I will say that you are talking a risk in going there. It's best to go to Texas Roadhouse.

The restaurant is interesting. The decor is focused on trains, and we definitely felt like we were in the old west. The service was slow, and when the servers friends came in it was almost like we were forgotten. If you plan on going plan on a lot of time to get your food especially if you have a larger group. The food was okay. My garlic pepper steak bites seemed over seasoned. They were good and the sauce was nice, but it seemed like there was something missing with the steak bites. They were popular though, I saw them at several tables when we walked in. My husband got the green chili steak and his was good. The only issue he had was an inconsistent cook on the steak. One side of his steak was rare enough that he didn't eat it.I honestly don't know if we would go back. It was a nice place to try while we were visiting.

Service is good, light music and busy but good ambiance.We like the hamburgers but decided to try a ribeye sandwich with fried onions on toasted bread, fries.This plate looks very appealing if you don't mind greasy and salty. Way too much butter on the toasted bread, the haystack fries are good on the sandwich but again salty, the meat was sliced thin and a good amount on the sandwich ( my plate ) but my partners had too much fat. I rate this with two stars. We will stick with burgers. Those are 5 stars.

Still the steak house to beat in Odessa. Old style service that cannot be topped. The hostess was very nice and helpful. Waitress was quick and a joy.

I've been a custom of Barn Door since the 1960s. the current management has changed things so much it is nothing like the Barn Door of old. they could learn from the old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" they changed their french fries to the breaded type, no longer have complimentary dinner salad, the block of cheese also is not included. I haven't been in years now due to all the changes they've made. shame that thought they needed to mess with perfection.

The only thing legendary is how much they suck. Went there was told it would be a 35 minute wait. After 45 minutes asked someone how much longer. They asked my name and started looking for it. Turns out they lost my name. Waited another 10 minutes and finally left. It would not of been so bad, but both the hostesses displayed an attitude that said they didn't care. Never got to eat, cannot imagine how long it would have taken to get food in front of my wife and I. They were using ticket books to take names, my name was from a ticket page they passed over. Extremely poor customer service. They also are need of an update and remodel. Older gentleman tripped over flooring that was worn out and not in good shape. I got up and helped in just in time. What a joke!

The decor was confusing old definitely needs a facelift. I don't know what it is the carpet or mop water but the place smell like urine. As an appetizer I got deviled eggs they were good But no need for a bundle of spring mix on the dish. My steak bites were supposed to be medium well and they were well done. My husbands dish was way to salty The service was okay
