First time here. Went through drive thru, placed order, then was told to wait in parking lot...I waited 16 minutes and it wasn't that busy. Got the food, huge portions and with all the toppings I'd expect but the "good flavor" I was expecting was not there. It wasn't bad, but I was expecting tastiness and instead, because of the heavy salt and grease, got heartburn. Maybe it's my older age now that I can't stomach these types of foods, it I know what I desire and when I don't get it!

We decided to try out the new Mexican restaurant in town today. We noticed last week that it was having a lot of business. Today was no exception, it was a busy day at Taqueria El Cometa. This is not a new restaurant for the vicinity, since there are about six of their restaurants in El Paso (new in Las Cruces). My wife had the flauta plate and I had the buritta. Both of our meals were OK, nothing to get overly excited about. Service was fine.

I swear we couldn't wait for them to open, and now it's disappointing. Why? The food is good but the service is the worst. These ladies at the drive through I don't believe they want to be there because they act as if they don't need the service. They are rude and leave, and don't even acknowledge you at the ordering speaker or at the window until they are ready. It's sad because the ones in El Paso, I always enjoy going there. Just sad, but if you don't mind that, then go ahead and wait and accept the attitude.

I rated this three stars for "ok", because the food was edible and didn't make me sick. However, we'll never go there again. Cut to circa 2007. We'd eaten at the El Cometa in El Paso (on Viscount), and it was pretty good. We were pleasantly surprised at this seeming "hole in the wall" place, that had unconventional, yet tasty food. The bldg was huge, and hardly anyone inside. The food was good and we had an overall pleasant experience. We never went back, but kept meaning to. When we purposefully looked for it, not remembering the exact street, we didn't remember the name and we couldn't find it. Then there was a shooting at the one we had been to and it was on the news, so now we knew the name and where it was. We were pretty excited about this one opening in Las Cruces. Compared to our visit to the location in El Paso some 15 years ago, the menu seems different,... smaller,... and limited. We got the Tacos de Alambre this time (Steak fajitas last time. There were no "fajitas" on this menu). So this was grilled meat with bell peppers and onions, with flour/corn tortillas on the side. The tortillas were soft, but dry and and super al dente like chewing on wet tree bark. They went down the throat like tree bark. The meat had absolutely no flavor. The only flavor was the onions and bell peppers. We got 5 or 6 of the soft tree bark tortillas each, but there was only enough meat for three. Most of the meal was onions and bell peppers, with the emphasis on onions. It just wasn't good enough for $28 (Two Alambres and one Tres Leche cake). Note: The entire menu is in Spanish, including the descriptions. So if you don't know Spanish, ask (there are pictures).

I really liked this place. I've been to the one in El Paso so couldn't wait for this one. I had the flautas one day and they are great! Large and lots of fixings. Last time I had some tacos and enjoyed them, but I think I like the flauta plate better- but my palate may be spoiled as I've tried lots of great taco places. Definitely going back.

Fast service and good food can't beat the original in Juarez or El Paso but the food was amazing as always as I read some of the comments they are laughable the same people that would rate ground beef Gordita's 5 stars rate this place 3 or less because they got the fajita tacos and said the menu was to small compared to 15yrs ago how does that make any sense and in fact only got a bigger menu love that they finally opened a decent Mexican restaurant in las cruces with decent pricing!!

To start off the review the menu is extremely limited... it's overpriced thought it would stand out in a town full of "tacos" and "Mexican restaurants " I was disappointed 4 dollars for a canned soda is mine boggling. Do not expect to get full off the food as portions are small the restaurant is super outdated. Like they slapped up some walls from it being Burger King and hoped we wouldn't noticed how little effort they put into the appearance of the restaurant.
