Spanish Kitchen is an old staple in Las Cruces. Plenty of variety in their menu offerings and one of the friendliest waitresses I have had. Initial chips and salsa are complimentary. The red chile enchilada plate was spicy yet full of flavor and it's great to finish your meal with their basket of sopapillas.

Read the other reviews and in my opinion they were expecting Mexican food. This is not Mexican Food. This is Traditional Spanish Food from New Mexico. New Mexican Cuisine!I came came here to have a real New Mexico experience before I went back home to California from watching the solar eclipse in Texas.I tried calling in a To-Go order but no answer. It's no problem I respect it, it's an older business, they were probably busy.I ordered Red Chile con Carne and 2 orders of sopapillas. As I was waiting I noticed the jukebox and the older generation passing through the restaurant. This place doesn't need extra frills. It's traditional New Mexico style cooking. My first bite of my sopapilla tasted like HOME. The Chile con carne tasted like my grandmothers. The Chile con carne came with a homemade flour tortilla, it had a little bit of a baking soda aftertaste but, my grandmas handmade tortillas really aren't perfect either. This place it traditional and perfectly imperfect.

I've been driving past here for a few months now, finally had the time to stop and try it out. Flour tortillas are handmade delicious , the green Chile con carnes burrito was quite tasty. I personally orders the green enchiladas with and egg. (I never thought of an egg before) turned out it was a great addition to it. I would love to try the red enchiladas next time. Hubby enjoyed the number 3 and wasn't disappointed.

I ordered the Chile relleno plate with rice and beans. The Chiles were not hot, which I prefer but the salsa was so that made up for it. The Chiles were very pretty and the rice and beans freshly made and tasted good. The chips that first came with the salsa and before ordering were good and authentically homemade. This was my first time eating here and I am satisfied. I will come back to try something else.

My family has been eating here since I was a baby (I'm 29). The food is still as good as it was 20 something years ago. The red enchiladas have always been my go to. But having tried everything on the menu, you can't go wrong. Their rellenos are some of the best in town. And their rice is my favorite in all of Las Cruces. I've attached a picture of their menu as we couldn't track it down online to order to go. But we were craving it so much we dined in and was served by the owner who was such a pleasure. Enjoy.

One last visit at the Spanish Kitchen: I ended up today at the Spanish Kitchen on an unplanned visit. This has not been a restaurant that I patronize, but what the heck, give it another shot. The restaurant was open and clean. The service was prompt and friendly. The prices were a little up there but still within the norm. Didn't appreciate the $3.60 for a glass of soda however. The Spanish Kitchen seems to favor their red sauce over the green on the menu. All combo meals are red. I ordered a combo meal today which came with chips and salsa and a basket with a little bread roll and a tad of butter. I found the bread basket a bit odd with a Mexican meal??? The bread seemed a bit stale and I consumed little of it. The chips were fine, but the highly pureed salsa was watery and lacking in flavor. It was a bit high on the heat. Mediocre salsa. The dish came with no rice but the refried beans were better than average. The taco was a ground beef taco with a hard shell. The shell was ok....it did have a bit of flavor....but the beef filling was unremarkable. The tamale was not real good and the enchilada was just ok. What ruined the meal for me was the red chile sauce. It was really below average....kind of a weird flavor. Not good. Because of the sub-par sauce I would rate the entire dish below average, certainly below the standard around here. Once again, I will state this without hesitation....there are no really good Mexican meals to be had at this restaurant. Most are mediocre at best. Sorry to say, I seriously doubt I will return. Overall dining experience TWO-AND-A-HALF STARS.

I have been going to the Spanish Kitchen since the 1980's The red cheese enchiladas may be the best in southern New Mexico. Add an egg for a little more flavor. Whenever I am in Las Cruces I try to eat at the Spanish Kitchen. Take time to look at the photos of Las Cruces from the turn of the 1900s.

For third time in a row, We've never felt so unwelcome by a business. Server is always rude and made us feel like we were an inconvenience to them. We didn't even feel comfortable letting her know that all of her food, at our group, was cold! We don't live here but used to like to meet family here when visiting. I'm sad to say, our efforts to give it a few chances won't be revisited. Used to be so Amazing. Disappointing to see the quality go down. Spanish Kitchen.... take a breath and get it together please!

Horrible horrible Watered down iced tea, chips were old and stale, food was cold. Small portions of rice and refried beans. Waitress was inattentive, always racing past us, though the restaurant was not busy.
