I have to admit, shopping in Mesilla is like putting a bulls-eye on your back that reads, "tourist" or "lame." It's a bulls-eye I don't mind wearing when I get to visit Las Cruces, because I LOVE Old Mesilla. Having always managed to date boys who cannot stop torturing their tongues with the hottest chile around, I've visited plenty of stores that sell all sorts of the hot stuff. That's why I have a soft spot in my heart for Solamente. It's a little off the square, by El Patio. There you can find regular chile powder -- both red and green -- chile jellies, chile peanut brittle, pickled quail eggs (which have already been requested as a Christmas gift), raspberry chipotle sauce, garlic salsa, chile-shaped kitchenware....you get the picture. It's always nice to go in, try out some of the sample salsa, and walk away with a bag full of something really tasy! Oh, the magic of New Mexico! If you ever need a hankering for some kind of chile, you can bet your arse you'll find just what you are looking for.

Amazing! The salsa bar caught out eye and didn't disappoint. There were a ton of samples of different salsas and dips out for sampling - the next one better than the last. I LOVE green chile and found a jar of delicious green chile salsa. Then - there was the sample of popcorn with green chile seasoning salt on it that was so good, I probably had 37 handfuls. The woman who owns the store is very friendly and knowledgeable as well. She taught my mom about the green chili and gave us recipes tooA must as this is probably the only gourmet food store in the area. Located on the old Mesilla square which has lots of gift shops nearby as well.

This place is unique and great. My wife and I travel to New Mexico often and make it a point to stop by Solamente. The variety of Chili stuff is great. On one trip we bought a bunch of stuff after a sample tasting but family ate up our purchases before we had a chance to. We like going to places where people remember your name and aren't too busy to be personable. Jaynce is the owner and always makes us feel welcomed. We are now regulars and would not think of going to Las Cruces without dropping by our hot and sweet chili store. Don't miss this place.
