Very easy and simple hike for anyone who is interested in gaining some fresh air for a bit.Park near the green gate, the trail is open but the gate is locked. You're going to have to climb and jump over the gate to access the trail.Once you go through the canyons, there's hills/mountains in an open area. You can continue walking the trail and explore -- there is a narrow incline that leads up to the top of the canyon (go to the left hand side once out of canyon). When the trail ends, climb up the bigger rocks to get onto the top. It's a great view but be sure to walk slow since the winds pick up as you gain elevation! Everything took about 45 min - 1 hour, it's definitely not a difficult hike and is a great place for photo ops.Good for groups or even solo. Would come back again!

I've been wanting to go hiking since we moved here. We arrived around 8:00am and were the first ones there. We jumped the green gate then followed the path on the left. You walk towards where the mountains split. It was super beautiful! There were small spaces in the canyon itself. And big rocks to climb over. We would do it again for sure!

One of the easier pretty hikes in Las Cruces! To get to the Slot you have to go over a gate of a chained fence (according to everyone I talked to this trail is open). Then you go towards the mountain until you hit an opening. Then you go through the opening to get to the slot! It's definitely a different view compared to anything else in Las Cruces! However, I wouldn't go during raining season since it will bring out all the insects!

Easy, quick trail to do so if you have little time and want a cool hike. There isn't a marked sign to indicate where the trails starts. Park on the side of the road near a green gate, then hop over the gate to begin the trail. That is the trailhead. Follow your way to the left of the split until you come to a clearing. Follow the clearing up the riverbed which winds to the right and you'll come into the slotted canyon. I'd follow AllTrails for a more specific map and gps coordinates. On the top or the canyon, which you can hike to, there is an amazing view and a geocache.

Great easy hike with an incredible payoff once you get in the slot. On a hot day, expect the slot to be about 10-15 degrees cooler for a few minutes. Some narrow parts and some with loose dirt so watch your step, but still basic enough for the whole family.Entrance is only marked by a green gate (to keep out motor vehicles), so watch or you'll miss it.

I grew up a few miles from this and only learned about it about a year ago. I've hiked it twice now and as others have said, it's a pretty easy hike to it. Through it is mostly easy with a couple rock scrambles. People take little kids through there all the time. It's very narrow and can be tight if you need to squeeze by other people. Past the slot, it's pretty open desert again and there are some steep hills you can climb if you want a little more exertion.
