I found this bookshop as one always hopes to find a bookshop: while wandering aimlessly in an unfamiliar town, after dark, to the tune of a live band in the distance. The door was open and the lights beckoned me in. When I stepped inside the bookshop I was welcomed by a bibliophiles dream: stacks and piles and teetering books lining every surface and the floor. The shop keeper popped out from behind a shelf and asked, "What do you like?" He directed me towards the fantasy section, and left me alone to wander. At the back of the shop I found the art books, and two very informative books about pottery art, which I have struggled to find in my own used bookshops in Tucson! We chatted about my pottery, and the Southwest Print Festival, and he pulled a beautiful printmaking book from the shelf to show me, before I left, feeling absolutely filled, and two books richer.

I walked into the bookstore because I find it difficult to pass a used bookstore. I saw the conflagration of books and my first feeling was repulsion, as I live and work to put things in order. However, as I spoke to the proprietor, I was impressed by his knowledge of authors and more, his knowledge of what was inside the books.I left with more books than I intended to buy when I walked in. I also walked away with a memory of him reading poetry that I won't soon forget.

The energy of this used bookstore is similar to that which one may expect to see in a movie. Books were chaotically piled high on top another in addition to those on the shelves, leaving just enough room to squirm between aisles. It may be due to a recent move, but I'm not sure. The owner, who sat in the corner of his store surrounded by a cylindrical mountain of books, quickly greeted us and pointed us toward the sections we may be interested in. The store is quaint yet chaotic and the owner was helpful but quirky. The prices ranged from what I felt was fair to what felt pretty high, seemingly based on the age of the book (with older books having higher prices).I'd certainly stop in again, but I can see how the chaos of the store could be too much for some.

I would give this a zero star review if at all possible. I cannot stress heavily enough that I hope anyone reading this will stay out of this book shop. The owner (micheal i have gathered from other reviews) is a terrible man who was harsh and abrasive throughout our entire encounter. While there are many books, there is also just as much trash and random items littering the store without context. He was very condescending to both me and my cousin and got extremely irate when we did not want to stay to listen to him read us a poem. Absolutely outrageous and I felt physically ill after this encounter. His prices aren't reasonable enough to tempt me ever to return.

Owner of the book shop is super creepy. Very condescending to women, way too touchy and he kept looking down my shirt. He was constantly pressuring customers into buying certain books and trying to make it difficult to refuse.

We love patronizing this book store, especially in light of the local library's current closed status. Michael (the proprietor) is a fountain of knowledge and witticisms and is fun to visit. He offers great advice on really good books, and can recommend some of his fave movies to boot. It's a real treat to visit this bookshop in Silver City. SO glad you're here, Michael! x
