My wife recently was admitted here for a change in her medication. She was there for two weeks and honestly didn't have a much good to say about it. There are no visitations allowed from family ( which is a violation of the Texas code ) be sure to get a release of information signed or they won't tell you anything. Presently patients are only allowed to make outgoing phone calls for a short time as long as you have a ROI signed you can talk to the nurses to see how your loved one is proceeding. Sometimes it is difficult to reach the nurses or their supervisor. Unless it is a actual emergency I would be careful in using these types of facilities. In my wife's case it was due her medication change.

My wife went here for help with her anxiety and panic disorder. They lied to her about her rights, and were very combative and unhelpful. They run fast and loose with Patient rights, treating every voluntary as if they are a involuntary.

This place will force patients to take medications, even though the law states that you can refuse medicine. They treat patients badly and do not follow the law with patients' rights. They will hold you in the facility longer than they are legally allowed to. If you are needing any type of mental health care, stay FAR away from this place!!

If I could give no stars I would. Rio Vista is a joke. It's like a adult daycare. It's a place they throw you in a room in front of a TV and stay bored out of your mind all day and no therapy was ever provided. I went here because I was forced by the facility if I didn't come there they would send the cops to my door and contact my husbands Command. Donna, Military Liaison, lies straight to our face. I was forced by the Intake Therapist to be inpatient when I basically told him I would do outpatient. But he then raised his voice and made a embarrassing scene for me airing my problems to ALL in the area. I was thrown in a padded room after they sedated me with Haldol, Benadryl, Risperdol, Lithium because I asked when I could go home to my husband. The nurses and Techs don't give a damn about their patients. When you ask for tampons or soap they tell you that it's not provided, so I call my husband for these things and when he drove 45 minutes from East Side at night to bring me these items he was told they were provided. I was told by nurses that they had a AMA to hold me for 48 hours and that the Psychiatrist, Dr. Perez (who is a joke of a dr), would decide of my discharge. This place made my issues much worse and I received no help but medications that caused even more problems for me. I was in a Ward with alcoholics, heroin addicts, prisoners, and people who have invisible friends and hear voices, I had none of these issues (not even close)!! You never see a Dr they just lie to you and tell you that you will see a dr before discharge. When you finally get a video chat with the dr after begging for it and you tell him all the issues the medications are causing he laughs at you and says to take the medications and do what the nurses say. The therapist called my husband and basically was like we want to keep her for a few weeks more but he rebuttaled and told her to let me out tomorrow no matter the problems. This place is a complete joke and steals money from you.

Honestly, this place has some okay qualities but it seems as they're holding their patients with insurance illegally. My partner and other patients have been having a continuous issue where they cannot leave. They ask to speak with an advocate and either get ignored or "forgotten" about. Within the patients handbook it states that the patient can leave at anytime even against the doctor's recommendation but it seems that it's always something that restricts them. A current investigation is going on with other behavior hospitals and this one might need to be investigated as well. A class action lawsuit might have to be started as my partner and other patients are experiencing the same thing.

DO NOT GO HERE!As everyone else has stated, this place is frightening! They do not follow procedures, violate patient rights, and actively keep you from requesting a discharge just to keep you admitted longer. It really feels like their business model is to imprison you as long as possible to collect insurance money for your stay. Please contact me to discuss your experiences (even if your experiences have been in the past). I am speaking to advocacy groups and a specialized lawyer about seeking action. [email protected]

Hey there! Just adding onto the absolute horror stories you will have to endure if you decide to seek "help" here for yourself or a family member I was inpatient here for 11 days & have never seen so much neglect in my life. Group therapy is twice a day & bless therapist Elizabeth but everyone sharing their traumas & triggers is terrible "exposure" therapy. You will never see a therapist one on one who actually gives a fuck about you or your story, they seem to coerce you into saying what they want you to to keep you here longer. People with PTSD, BPD, addiction problems, austim, tourette's, etc all can reside in one unit which is strange. I caught onto other patients triggers & ticks & warned staff about a possible fight or issue & no shit there'd be a fight or altercation with the same person I mentioned needed special care. Witnessed a girl with her location wristband on too tight ask for it readjusted TWICE only for it to be cut off after her wrist was blistered, chaffed, & bleeding under the band. If you have dietary restrictions that's too damn bad, you eat the same shit as everybody & yes they will still charge your insurance 100s to 1000s every day. I trialed their recommendation of meds for a week & it not only made me violently emotional, but made me consider bashing my head into the bathroom tile just to be transferred to ER for some scenery other than 4 blue walls & a fucking television. Some staff confided in me that they want to vomit from the anxiety of going into this job & I feel for the good ones that want some changes but the owners are psychopaths who should spend a few nights in their own facility. I decided to stay unmedicated my last few days to increase my chances of going home sooner because my depression here had peaked. Everyone is an experiment & walking around literally zombified from the same few medications being given out. It's always freezing & you will be provided plastic scrubs (if they even have them LMAO) as alternate clothing because no, they cannot afford to buy sweat sets for incoming patients to keep warm with their $100k a day insurance sums per unit. Outpatient is a joke too honestly & there's a VERY small chance of getting it without inpatient first. I could keep going truly but to keep it short & sweet, FUCK DR HAQUE, FUCK DR ATAALLA, I HOPE YOU GET A CIVIL SUIT UP THE ASS
