Olivas Music

When my oldest was entering 6th Grade he wanted to enroll in band. The Middle School Band Director recommended the Alto Sax for him and Olivas Music was on the list of suggested retailers to choose one from.We went in during the beginning of the school year, and the place was packed! Once we made it to the counter, the gentlemen helped us very efficiently. My only 'complaint' would be that the very first instrument they brought out to show me was on the higher end of the price scale (about $3k total) what would be reasonable for a rental/rent to own. After some discussion, we choose one that was around $1,500.Their rental/rent to own plans are quite reasonable! We paid about $50 a month and the plan comes with insurance for maintenance and repairs. If you decide to keep the instrument and pay it off early, they'll provide a discount on the payoff amount (saved us about $300)! You have 30days after the final payment to use the insurance, so we took the instrument in one last time for maintenance, and as always, they returned a quality product.

Parents Beware!Please do your research when looking to rent an instrument from here. You will definitely over pay when renting an instrument. I rented a violin for my daughter in 2019 and in 2022 I barely paid it off. The starting "value" of the instrument was $800 and I paid almost $1000. The manager Aaron was very quick to point out any mistake on my part. They did refund me a violin bow that should've been covered by all the insurance I was forced to pay. Parents: look elsewhere for instruments. You can get a better deal if you can pay upfront.

A piece of my son's instrument broke so I took it to the shop to be repaired. The guy in the front was very nice and knowledgeable. I was disappointed because we have to wait a few days for it to be fixed. My son needs to practice and have it at school with him daily so... I couldn't leave it behind. It's a good thing I have insurance on it because I won't have to pay for the repair. I also had to buy my son reeds for his clarinet. It was $12 and change for three reeds! Next time I'll probably just get them online. Overall, it was mostly a good experience.

The customer service here is excellent. Even the week after school started and the store was full of customers, we were helped promptly and felt as though we were getting personal service. I love that I can shop at a locally owned shop and still feel like I am getting a good deal. I truly believe they are passionate about children having access to musical instruments and their service and prices are proof of that.

Knowledgable staff for orchestral and band instruments. Good customer service by phone and in person. I was traveling with my daughter and needed a 3/4 violin g string. They had the item in stock and showed me how to complete the restring. They tuned it just for good measure. A+ all around.

I gave them 4 days to fix my cork on my alto saxophone and I call them and they still didnt have it ready

Knowing start of school year and instrument rentals go hand in hand I chose to go during working hours I hopes to miss the lines, which I did thank goodness, however it seemed that they were ready for the rush with line dividers, areas clearly marked, and clipboards on the ready with forms to be filled. I only had one person ahead of me which moved quickly. My personal experience with the guy at the counter was pleasant I found him very helpful and polite.

Olivas music staff is kind and caring. They know what they are doing and have good quality instruments. This is my go-to recommendation for instrument rentals and repairs.
