Nana's Cafe

OVERALLThe tiny town of Jal, NM, provides decent options for lunch at Nana's Cafe. If it wasn't for a couple of rude patrons next to us, my family's visit would have been better.RATING BREAKDOWNFood: 4 | Service: 3 | Ambiance: 3 | Price: 2 PARKINGFree street parking.LOCATION/AMBIANCEIt's not difficult to find anything in Jal since it's such a small town. When you walk in, just find a seat where you like. It's a relatively large dining room with several sizes of tables. It has some Mexican vibes as well as Mexican cuisine on their menu, but they also serve American fare.THE GRUB- Complimentary chips and salsa: the chips were a bit overcooked for my liking + Cheeseburger and homemade fries: hit the spot. The fries lacked flavor, though.+ Shrimp fajitas: my daughter had these and they were quite good.LITTLE YELPER'S CLUBThey have a very weak kid's menu. It had only three lunch items on it and one for breakfast.SERVICEOn 1/14/2024, service was slow getting to us even though they didn't seem that busy in the dining room. Our waitress was nice, however, there were a couple of patrons nearby that had their phones turned up incredibly loud playing Spanish & some English music, videos, etc. This was a ginormous phone not of the Apple variety. No wonder it was loud. Lol. At no point were they ever asked to turn it down even though no one at our table could hear one another. There was no background music on Nana's intercom. Just the extremely silent volume of NFL updates on their tv near the window.MY FAVORITE PART...The cheeseburger.NOT SO FAVORITE PART...The rude patrons who sat with their cell phones turned up full blast long after they were finished with their meal.TIPThey have a Brian Norwood mural on one of their walls. It's absolutely beautiful -- it's a painting of "The Trail Ahead" sculpture he created just north of town.

The food here was very authentic Mexican food. The waitress was very nice. Oh and they have amazing ice. I even got a cup of ice to go
