Simple menu which I love. Ordered green chili enchiladas, which is a corn tortilla covered in cheese and green chili sauce- delicious. I ate the entire plate. Being from Houston, I'm used to meat in my enchilada- I didn't miss it in this plate. Rice and beans on point. Service impeccable even though they were super busy and close to closing. Group next to us ordered burgers that looked delicious. Love the ambiance- we could see the cooks working furiously in the kitchen. The owner apologized for being out of a few items, but it's understandable since not many restaurants are open in this town. An older Hispanic woman was also behind the counter and greeted us warmly. My wife always says "if somebody's abuela is in the kitchen cooking then you know it is good". This was our first visit in town and we got lucky. A local couple stood in the order line behind us and reassured us that everything is good. Turns out the woman was my hometown mail carrier and remembered my address!!!! My hometown is more than 600 miles away! Amazing. Delicious food and a lovely experience. We will be back next time we are in town.

In Fort Davis for the StarParty...on a Friday. While exploring some of the shops downtown, one of the shopkeeps proffered some recommendations for local lunch. This place jumped out because he said 'catfish' and 'lunch only'...not a hint of Tex-Mex. We arrived about 11:45. The place is small and it was very busy. While there are separate tables, there were no available 2-tops. Fortunately, there were a couple of spots at one of the large tables...we sat down and made some new friends. There is no menu, only a buffet in three parts. Part one is the salad bar with components for assembling one's own salad or prepared cole slaw. 'A' prepared, I went for the slaw. Part two is a steam table featuring catfish, fries, kernel corn and full bulbs of roasted garlic. There was also what looked like chopped steak with available Texas cream gravy, but I didn't see it on anybody'splate in the place. Part three was a small table between the other two that had an iced bowl of tarter sauce and two pans of dessert. We had some of the peach cobbler...not sure what the other one was, but it was popular. This is a downhome, serve yourself, all-you-can-eat, limited buffet. The only table service was a couple of very busy servers bringing beverages. 'A' had water, I had iced tea; I don't know if they even have anything else.We both liked our food and even had a small second helping. We are both puzzled by the roasted garlic...it didn't seem to go with anything else, but it's always delicious...so there! We also enjoyed the ambiance and company. I'm giving them four stars because they are good at what they claim to be. See you for lunch...on a Thursday or Friday.

the kind folks at Cueva de Leon suggested Mary Lou's as a good place for breakfast and they were right. My wife and I had huevos rancheros and the kids had pancakes w/bacon. Everyone was very pleased with the food and courteous service. The coffee refills kept coming, the food portions were large, a perfect way to start the day in West Texas. This is where the locals eat.

was driving through ft davis just past lunch time and saw a parking lot FULL of cars. I think the whole town was there. so I stopped to find it was the Friday catfish fry. score! all you can eat catfish. perfectly fried. homemade corn bread, apple salad. French fries were soggy by the time I got in but were hand cut. good iced tea. good small town atmosphere. not fancy in the least.

A bit quirky, but totally Fort Davis. I wouldn't change it. Open a few days a week, Thurs, Fri. plus barbecue on Sunday. The ambience of a small town church, after service, bring a dish. Our last trip was fried fish and it was perfectly fried, all you care for, fish and sides...for $13. Barbecue on Sunday was good but very stingy on the brisket baked potato...I hesitate to try it again. I think barbecue is by another company. I go back at least twice for the fried chicken and fish every visit. IMPORTANT: The previous review by "Tammy" must have been mistakenly posted...Mary Lou's doesn't have any TexMex or Burgers...just so you know.

Yep, the locals eat here. Good food, good service. But the hours are very limited at lunch... 11:30 to 1:00. Thursdays are Fried Chicken day on the lunch buffet. Where else can you get Fried Chicken around here?? They are not open for supper. Probably the best place for breakfast in town. If you are new to town or don't know anyone in Ft. Davis this place can be intimidating to walk into. It is worth it though.
