During my last visit to Marfa, I was lucky to be able to snag a visit to the Marfa Maid Goat Dairy located just outside of town and owned and operated by the amazing Melinda and Allen. The tour of the dairy farm was the absolute highlight of my most recent Marfa trip. Melinda and Alan were incredibly welcoming and hospitable. In addition, to learning all about the cheese making process, how the goats are cared for, and how the dairy was founded - we also got to learn all about how our hosts wound up in Marfa running a dairy, as well as great local insight into Marfa and the surrounding areas. I simply can't rave enough about them both.In addition to that, let's not forget the other highlights of the trip - getting to pet cute, friendly goats to your heart's content AND sample some delicious cheeses. Unfortunately, it was not the right time of year for fresh cheese so we couldn't purchase any, but what we were able to sample was SO GOOD. A visit to this active dairy farm is a great way to spend an hour or so in this kitsch little art town located in the middle of the Texas desert and mountains.

This was a highlight of our trip in Marfa. Melinda and Allen were warm, informative and interesting hosts. Both Melinda and Allen had very rich lives before the goat cheese making business and we loved hearing their personal stories. We learned about the goat cheese making process, got to meet many of the goats (even many of the babies!) and got to try some of the delicious goat cheese. Highly recommend this tour on your Marfa visit.

Super fun way to spend an hour in Marfa! The hosts are great, friendly and knowledgeable and more than willing to share their story to success. We learned about their background, hung out with the adult goats and wandered over to the baby goat area last. Lastly, we took turns milking one of the goats. :)The goats are amazingly friendly and intelligent and the goat cheese is decadent and awesome! The whole experience took roughly and hour, but you can stay longer or shorter, it really depends on how your group is interacting.

Like many small businesses in this part of Texas, Marfa Maid Dairy is effected by the pandemic. However, Malinda and Alan are still around and happy to explain the cheese making process and how a goat dairy works.

The best artisan cheeses I've tasted, and from a local dairy in Far West Texas! The owner also offers cheese-making classes at their pristine facility on Antelope Hills Road. Check the Facebook page for more info.

Our family (two adults and two boys, ages 13 and 9) toured the dairy and had a great afternoon. We all took turns milking a goat then spent time petting (and getting our clothes gently chewed by) the goats. There were goats of all ages, and after a little reticence on their part were as friendly as could be. Allan and Malinda were very welcoming and patient. This is a great way to spend an hour in Marfa. It was the highlight of the weekend for the boys!
