I broke my diet for this? Meh. Unimpressed. For starters, the waitstaff acted as if they could care less that I was there. Idk, maybe I wasn't bougie enough. LaVenture does appeal to a well travelled niche. Artwork abounds, the bar menu is eclectic and modern, the mixologists know their craft, and the brick oven sits impressively ready to cook pizza wonders. The bar was out of all their beers on tap. On a Friday night? Odd. As for my Italian sausage lasagna, it was lacking in height and flavor. I am accustomed to the traditional multilayered pasta that has slow cooked in the oven with plenty of meat sauce, ricotta and crispy mozzarella that's caramelized on the edges. This attempt was singular in nature, with a basic tomato sauce and loads of mozzarella to disguise the lacking pasta. On the other end of the spectrum, my fellow pilot greatly enjoyed his order of ribs with the side of house made slaw. Though why would a waiter ask at what temp to cook them? That was a first. If you find yourself at the gateway of the Big Bend, exhausted from the numerous art gallery tours, LaVenture is an option. Maybe the pizza is the way to go. I'm not sure the next time I'll be in the area to give it another try.

We ate at the hotel restaurant because it was convenient. We were going to take our food up to eat in the room, but a table was quickly cleared for us. We decided to get the wood-fried oven pizza. We ordered the black truffle & mushroom and the seasonal special, which was Brussels sprouts & prosciutto I think. They are quite large and probably enough for two to share. The mushroom pizza was really oily. I preferred the Brussels sprouts one more, even though the leaves were a bit burnt. While the food was average, the service was great. Our waitress made sure our waters were refilled and checked up on us. As for the ambiance, the tv was quite loud. It was THE big game day though, so it can't be helped.

LaVenture is inside Hotel St. George in Marfa, Tx. Marfa has many great places for food but if you're looking for something a little more upscale then this is your place. We have had great service each time we've been, both for lunch and dinner. This restaurant was the first place I've ever had a Ranch Water and it is still the best one I've had in all of Texas. So do yourself a favor and stop in when you're in town.

Man, I still love LaVenture restaurant. It's elegance at an inexpensive price. While I love the pizza--and who doesn't--this year the tuna was exceptional and I've never had better jasmine rice. My wife had the ribs, and she doesn't even like them usually--but these were juicy, full of meat (more than I've ever seen on a rib actually), and the cheese grits were, again, the best we've had. It's a five star restaurant at a reasonable price with a beautiful ambiance and impeccable service. I also recommend the ravioli and the shrimp appetizer.

It's been a while since I've been here foodies. Menu has changed. Was totally looking forward to the Charcuterie Board but it's no longer served. Took away a star. In fact, there's several items that aren't served anymore. The food is good but I miss what I loved. LaVenture has its own pizza oven and can serve up a delicious pizza, which I always love a great pizza. I had that. Husband had ravioli. We had wine. The ravioli was fabulous just wanted a little more on the plate. Service is good, they have a full bar and a great wine list is better.

My son and I came to Marfa for the weekend to see what all the fuss was about. This was one of the only restaurants open at the time. It was pretty good. Cute ambiance, it's inside a hotel. Our server wasn't the most knowledgeable but she was good. I ordered the veggie pizza and it was good, big enough to share. Too bad my son doesn't like veggies like me. Haha I ordered a glass of Prosecco and my son ordered wings and a coke. He liked his too. The carrots on the wings were old and soggy not fresh and crisp. Nothing spectacular but it was good.

Food took too long. Then waiter gave bs response: "kitchen is busy."No you guys are not busy, you lazy prick, there's only like 6 parties here.I REALLY hate bullshit.A more constructive response would have been "Sorry, let me go check what's going on". That would have shown that you care about a customer's problems and you're at least doing some due diligence.Other issues:Service is just slow in general, waiters are daydreaming.I paid in cash but they didn't give change. What a flaky and complacent establishment.

Service: 2 StarsFood: 4 StarsOverall: 2.5 stars, rounded up to 3. 'd recommend eating at Margaret's down the road and saving some money. My wife and I scheduled dinner at LaVenture for Thanksgiving evening as we were staying at the Hotel Saint George. We originally planned to order the $95 Thanksgiving tasting menu, which seemed reasonable given the setting (in an expensive hotel) and the level of excellence the restaurant projected. I'm glad we didn't. We spent half that much ordering a la carte, and even then I felt a bit ripped off. The food was actually quite good. My wife and I each had a pizza, and we shared the wood-fired crab cakes. The service, however, was unfortunately quite poor - and it seemed to be the fault of management, not the waiters actually in the restaurant. The waiters and bartender were all running themselves ragged trying to serve the dining room. Our waiter appeared to be a busser or barback in addition to his job waiting our table. Both my wife and I commented that we felt like this was perhaps his first time ever waiting a table. We watched him run back and forth from the kitchen to the front bar (a different restaurant) with dishes and glasses. In between those trips he'd check on his tables. The tables immediately adjacent to ours were increasingly incredulous at the amount of time it took to place an order, get drinks, receive food, pay their bill, etc. At one point a gentleman next to us walked up to the waiter/busser and asked when the food would arrive. He'd been waiting long enough to make him that desperate. My wife and I felt ripped off, especially because the burnt out waitstaff didn't comp anything or apologize at any point for the situation. But we felt bad for them, as we figured that someone (or multiple people) had called in and left their teammates in a tough spot. That sadness turned to frustration and anger when we left the restaurant and entered the hotel lobby where three or four employees of the front bar/host stand were sitting at one of the high top tables laughing, flirting, and eating pie as their coworkers drowned 20 feet away. We had a much better experience at Margaret's, about 2 blocks away.

Yellow salad for $16. Does this look good? You can bet your a** it isn't!Don't worry they don't care, been serving mediocre food & crap service since inception. 1% owner knows you're limited in choice in this overrated town-so deal with it, is the motto.
