Straightforward taqueria in Downtown El Paso just down the street from Pioneer Square on Mesa Street. The place is small and seating is limited and if you want menudo on the weekends you better get there early because it's good and it sells out quickly. The steam table has your usual suspects that they turn into first class burritos- stuff like barbacoa, chorizo, chichirones and various guisados that you finish off at their salsa bar and for me when I'm in El Paso, I always use that fantastic red pepper salsa made from the locally grown peppers from New Mexico. It's a pretty good experience for a cheap Mexican breakfast.

Oh my goodness, let me tell you about my love affair with little hole in the wall Mexican local shacks! These places are just the best! They're cheap, delicious, and so down to earth, I can't get enough of them!I was in downtown El Paso and feeling like I needed some caldo, and I asked the owner of JR Tradings where the best place to get caldo was and he pointed at the yellow building around the corner. There were a lot of people hanging outside but I saw that they took credit cards so I was game. The last place that I went to downtown to try to get some caldo only took cash so I couldn't try it.First of all, let's talk about the prices. I mean, seriously, have you ever seen such affordable Mexican food? It's like the owners of these little shacks know that we're all broke and just trying to get our taco fix without going bankrupt. And the portions are HUGE! I'm telling you, I could eat a burrito the size of my head for just a few bucks at Laurita's.And don't even get me started on the flavors. These little shacks know how to pack a punch in their food. The spices, the sauces, the salsas...it's all so dang delicious. Every time I take a bite, I feel like I'm getting a little taste of heaven. And it's not just the typical tacos and burritos, either. These shacks have all kinds of authentic Mexican dishes that I've never even heard of, but can't wait to try.But what I love most about these little hole in the wall Mexican local shacks is the down to earth atmosphere. You don't need to dress up or worry about fitting in. Everyone is welcome, and everyone is there for the same reason: to chow down on some bomb Mexican food. So if you're looking for an affordable, delicious, and down to earth Mexican food experience, head to your nearest little hole in the wall local shack. I took my caldo to go because my meter was running but it was just as delicious at home with the meat just falling apart and so flavorful! Trust me, you won't regret it!Laurita's Kitchen(915) 541-6000419 S Mesa St, El Paso, TX 79901

Hidden gem in El Paso's Segunda Barrio neighborhood near the border crossing. I had a delicious pork borrito with a side of super-spicy sauce and some very yummy roasted sliced potatoes. This fast-casual/cafeteria style, and the English of the staff was limited when I came in. So be open-minded and respectful.

My cousin & I stumbled on Laurita's and we're so happy we did! We both had the Chilaquiles Montados and two beverages and it was delicious... and very inexpensive ($15 total). Would highly recommend

A place for getting some great Mexican food! I travel to El Paso often I have tried many local restaurants there. This place is one of my favorite places to eat at. Food made like grandma use to make when I was a kid. It's set up kind of like a cafeteria but you can get items made to order. Seating can be a little limited but this place is an old school, very good Mexican food place. This is not a "Texmex" place or a bar. It's a place for really good Mexican food. I recommend this place and will be back again next time I'm back in town.

I loved the food! Its near downtown El Paso and the reviews encouraged my visit! It did not disappoint! It does not look like much on the outside but dont let that discourage you. It stayed busy all the time we were there! The employees were very sweet and kind!
