Sign up online. But have to call to cancel. When you do call to cancel, they force you to give a reason why you're canceling. If you don't, they won't let you cancel. (I just told them to make something up because I don't have a reason) (sidenote: how is that not illegal). Then after I'm audibly upset and telling them I have a crying baby and to please just cancel, they continue to try and offer discounts. Those unfortunate employees are forced to go through a script and I'm filled with frustration. It did not prevent me from cancelling my subscription. I'm not sure anyone wins.

Las Cruces Sun News is not only the main newspaper for Las Cruces but it's the most informative. The $7.99 digital subscription is worth it because the comics, sports and TV listing are added. The photo journalism is also a great plus. Lots of inside news about the community.

There are two important concepts that the Sun-News staff seem never to have heard of:1. "investigative journalism"2. "copy editing"You have no choice but to subscribe to the Sun-News since voter information, school information, etc. are not distributed any other way--but that doesn't mean you have to be happy about it.

Recently we found that the Las Cruces Sun News has moved from its downtown site. Don't know what this means for its future but was sad to see the sign gone from the building we walk by every week to go to the Farmers Market and other sites in our historic neighborhood. It's tough to operate a successful newspaper in a small city. Tougher stillto be unique and independent next to a city 5x larger. But it's disappointing to find so little news or interesting writing in our local newspaper. Even the Sunday paper is a thin disappointment. It's not for lack of things happening, or for lack of talent, but for lack of publishing much of what's happening. Timeliness and thoughtfulness are important. Was there a fire by the train station yesterday? If so, what are the ramifications for our city? We now look at social media to find out. The internet has been an obvious challenge to newspapers. Yet it also offers opportunities to gain readers. There are billions of readers open to the next great source of information, if it answers the need for real information and relevance. Many people love NM in general and Las Cruces in particular. Many more could if given reasons. (Like, a competitive daily newspaper.) I wish this paper would reach higher. Offer deeper storytelling through timely reporting, creative layout and photography, diverse columnists, inviting website. I think quality print and virtual news can make more money than ever when people's brains and needs are respected.

Poor editing, headline stories barely change from day to day, poor subscription / cancellation options.

Sun News is no longer community based. Unfortunately, When you try to visit their "local" office to have any issues resolved, you will find signs on the door which direct you to a 1-877 number which directs you to a call center located in the Philippines. Due to being based in the Philippines, banks and visa have continuously flagged my auto payment as fraudulent, thus leading to account being placed on inactive status. When you call back to let them know that this is our local paper, based out of the Philippines, they will then document and then re activate your account. However, due to the 1-800- I-can't-help-you number, unfortunately, banking is already affected. it has happened 3 times and each time i have had to take time from my day to have the bank remedy. Also, at the end of August when planning to have my father moved i called ahead of time to have the address transferred. Address was provided. Two weeks into September, my father had not received the paper. Called the 1-877 number again. Was told that that address was undeliverable. Same address provided at transfer request. They refunded the days and cancelled the subscription. Next month, banking account deactivated again and another visit to the bank and then another call to the Philippines. The CSR Soledad advised that the new address was undeliverable and that there was no documentation of the transfer request. After back and forth trying to get her to understand the issues with the banking and the continued charges, she stated that she was able to cancel the subscription. After much back and forth, I requested an email advising everything we spoke of today for my records She then stated that she could not email me, that the system would generate an auto email. I told her that i did not want the system email as obviously the system is not working. She then stated that she could not send, she could not escalate to a supervisor and that the call was over. Unimpressed.

I'm not satisfied with the newspaper however when I go to cancel they will still charge me for another month. It says $8 but the actual charge is $11. I also cannot remove my own credit card from the website without having to call in where they high pressure me for retention. I get more news from Facebook and Yahoo.

This review is about online subscription payment. If you want to pay month-by-month and don't want to have your credit card automatically charged, then don't even bother with their online website. It doesn't work. I have tried to use this (one time monthly payment) method numerous times - the payment website ALWAYS gives me an error. Also, I have attempted to bring this to the attention of the Sun News/Gannett staff. FORGET it - NOBODY SEEMS TO CARE. All i get back is inane responses that indicate either the person writing the reply doesn't care, or can't take to time to find the correct answer and/or get the website fixed. They just don't give a rat's you-know-what.
