Ok this was hands down the best Chile Relleno burrito I've personally ever had and that's saying a lot because I've lived in 10 different states. Real in house chicharron which was perfectly fried. And I also had a carnitas torta that was definitely on point. Wash it all down with an ice cold bottle of coke. Quick and fast service! Very affordable!

So this place is a new hidden gem. The menu is small but focused on the essentials that are cooked right. It's a Mexican deli style so the food is ready for a quick in and out or dine in if you have the time to do so. No hosts or waiters, just walk up pick what you want, pay, and eat. I got the tacos de Barbacua and aside from them being good they did not skimp out the meat. The tortillas where fresh because they make them there. I will definitely be back often to get my authentic Mexican food fix in Las Cruces.

While I admire and love New Mexican food, La Morena offers traditional Mexican food. Mainly from the beautiful state of Chihuahua. Make not mistake, this place is authentic as it gets and is ran but the most friendliest staff. This also happens to be a family ran business, so it doesn't get any more local than this. I had the barbacoa burritos and let me say they were amazing! It literally tasted like the ones I use to get as a kid in Juarez. We also tried the caldo de res and it was very savory and a very good portion of it. So if you are looking to take a break from the NM cuisine and some authentic Mexican food, then head over to La Morena.

La Morena Mexican Food is ranked forty-eight (48) on the 2018 Mr. Sensitive list of the Mexican food restaurants in Las Cruces when considering the total dining experience.La Morena is a small neighborhood place on Dona Ana Road with about five booths and a few tables. It is clean and when I was there the gentleman preparing the food was wearing gloves. The young woman working the counter was personable and efficient. The place is just fine for a quick, casual meal. But, not much more.La Morena offers a very small menu....mostly torta, tacos, and burritos. The food is almost exclusively Mexican. You order at the counter where you'll find the prices most reasonable. I sampled a Mexican Coke, an adobada burrito, and a carne asada torta. The burrito cost about $3.50 and the torta about $5.00. The torta came with a little cup of red and green sauce on the side. The red was quite spicy but it added a nice little bit of flavor to the sandwich. The torta bun was fresh and held up well. There was shredded lettuce and a smidgen of avocado in the sandwich. The carne asada had a nice flavor. While not an outstanding sandwich it was, overall, a pretty good one. I would order it again. The adobada burrito, on the other hand, was not so good. The meat was tough and lacked flavor. The burrito also contained refried beans which threw off the flavor of the carne adobada. I would not order the burrito again. What to expect if you go: A small operation best left to the neighborhood folk and food that is sometimes good and sometimes not so good. I would not go out of my way to dine here. Best considered a quick and inexpensive stop for the neighborhood folk. That's its niche. Restaurant rating = TWO-AND-A-HALF STARS......meaning, not so great. Not something to look forward to.

A true neighborhood Mexican restaurant. I've been there twice and will return.Home cooked food, with traditional ingredients, and dishes often not served in more mainstream "Mexican" restaurants such as tripas. They'll let you sample the meats and you can also buy them by the pound. The prices are incredibly reasonable.
