Room 321 is super-private with a cross breeze!
The rooms at the Indian Lodge are really really nice.
Covered Structure that the CCC built in 1930's. It's where we brought our camp chairs to Stargaze at night! 09/18/12

I had one of the WORST after-hours check-ins of my life at Indian Lodge and am still giving it 4-stars! This place is so dear to me that it still merits a 4-star rating. It's such an incredible gift to be able to stay in these historic rooms with breathtaking views in all directions. As other reviewers have stated, this isn't a place for fine luxuries or even microwaves or internet...it's a place to unplug, decompress, escape the desert heat, bird-watch, photograph, hike, star-gaze, swim, go for a scenic drive, connect with loved ones, or just be.I have had several very pleasant stays at Indian Lodge and will certainly plan to return - but will not opt for late/after-hours checkin on future visits!

Wonderful Lodge nestled with the Fort Davis Mtns. Hiking or relaxing. Nice rooms, lodge and pool area. Camping near byStaff were friendly. We planned on eating breakfast at the hotel restaurant, however the water heater went out. Rooms do not have microwave or mini fridge and only way to warn any thing up or have pop corn is in the community area which happens to be same spot they hold conferences. So we were out a restaurant And ability to use a microwave during day. Our room Tv didn't work due to wiring issues. Wasnt happy about that. No compensation offered for Two night stay and no TV, had to go sit in the lounge to watch anything. Only reason giving a lower rating. Beautiful sunrise and loved windows on both sides of room

Beautiful lodging located inside Davis Mountain State park. The Adobe design exterior worked well with the surrounding vista. The room we stayed in was very basic but was clean and roomy. Furniture were of Western theme variety and not the most comfortable. Caution, no refrigerator or microwave in the room. No cable TV our any TV available at he time of our stay due to a contract dispute. Definitely no Wi-Fi connection available any where within the property. There was an on-site swimming pool and restaurant. But the restaurant had limited operation. It opened Wednesday thru Sunday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. A small gift shop also served as check in and check. I paid around $110 per night which was a excellent price. Even with some short comings, we would still stay here again. The location and view just can not be beat.

Indian Lodge was one of our best family vacations. We stayed in room 119, which is a suite with a pull out couch in the sitting room. The rooms were very quiet, except when the people upstairs were moving around. Very dark at night. We slept very well.Great views, especially at sunrise. The common areas were beautiful and bet solidly built. We enjoyed learning about the CCC that built the lodge. The tap water tastes good, like spring water.

Alright, first lower your standards. This place is ran by Texas Parks and Wildlife, not the Four Seasons. The wifi, sometimes it works. Mostly it doesn't. If there's a magical spot where it consistently works I don't know yet.The restaurant is sometimes open, sometimes not. The pool is not heated. And there is a little tiny gift store. You come here to get away from the hectic world. When you go out at night, you can see the milky way, and it is daunting and intimidating and you're reminded that you're a speck of dust on a speck of dust.I prefer Indian Lodge so much more then hipster El Cosmico. It's minimalist (like El Cosmico) but it is unpretentious. Not many people know of this place, and it's the kind of place you hesitate reviewing because you don't want the rest of the noisy world to know about it.

The best place to be away from the busy-ness of life. The staff are friendly, thoughtful. The Black Bear restaurant is next door. Behind would be the hiking trail. The pool is conveniently in the middle. The only thing I don't like is how claustrophobic the cabin is. It can be small. But it's nice to have a cabin to relax in. I will come back.

Best. Place. Ever. No kidding, I didn't want to leave! So quiet. We slept with the windows open in October. Loved the mattresses, the sheets and blankets, the shutters on the windows, the decor and immaculate housekeeping. Did the wifi work? No. Did I care? NO!!! People who come here crave~and get~spectacular scenery, wildlife, and peace and quiet. Those who need fancy toiletries, wifi, elevators, and instant hot water should seek lodging at the nearest Holiday Inn Express. SERIOUSLY. That way there will be more room for us bird watchers/sleepers/photographers/hikers at the Indian Lodge....someplace where we can get away from you.The restaurant is also very good. All home-cooked, no Sysco reheats. Not fancy, but enjoyable, affordable, and friendly.

I'm reviewing the Black Bear restaurant at Indian Lodge in Davis Mountains State Park. We did not stay at the lodge but at the campground in the park.Black Bear gets 5 stars from me for the following reasons. Atmosphere / view: you eat in a cozy little dining room built by the CCC in the 1930s. PIck a table on the wall to your left as you walk in for a great view of the mountains and lodge. Service: the friendliest people work here. The dining room has wifi (which works most of the time), and my servers kept my coffee mug full and assured me I could stay and surf as long as I wanted (no wait for tables). The food is good, but go with the right expectations - you get a hearty and delicious meal, but nothing fancy here. One day I had the breakfast buffet. In addition to the standard french toast / sausage / grits etc., the chef had made two delicious quiches - veggie, and bacon and cheese. Some days they have menu service for breakfast. The pancakes are bigger than your head - most folks would be fine ordering a single pancake (which you can do from the "sides" menu) with some sausage patties. The prices are reasonable. We also ate there Christmas Day. A special buffet was offered for $25 per person. I thought this was a bit steep, but I was very happy to have a full holiday meal without having to cook. All the holiday favorites such as roast beef and ham with sweet potatoes; a homemade cheese ball with an outer coating of chili powder; a salad bar; 4-5 different homemade pies. Worth checking out if you're in the area next Christmas.Note, no booze in the public areas of the state park - this includes the Black Bear.

This is a review for both the Indian Lodge inside the park as well as the Black Bear restaurant at the lodge. The lodge is historical and architecturally cool. It is like staying in a New Mexican pueblo. The price is right and the accommodations very good. The restaurant is good price and the food delish. The service can be a little slow. But hey, you are on vacation. Time to slow down.

Very cool historic hotel. It was built by the WPA after the Great Depression. Great views from the patio.
