It's an attractive store, and the staff are relatively friendly, but what I did not care for were their White Chocolate Chunk Pistachio Cookies. I was excited to see these. The packaging was attractive and enticing, and they looked like they would be delicious, but one bite, and they were awful! They tasted old, and flavorless! They were $17 a bag, and simply not worth it. I only wish that they had had samples before I bought them. Oh, well. Never again. 3/5

I was road tripping through New Mexico and stopped in the tiny, charming little town of Mesilla. I needed to stretch my legs so I spent about an hour walking around the main square, and I thought it would be cool to check out some local food and wine to take home with me as a souvenir. I love wine and nuts, so going into Heart of the Desert Pistachios & Wines was a no-brainer. This homey little shop has lots of local New Mexican delights. I purchased a local Syrah ($14.99), Hatch Chile Infused Olive Oil ($12), and a half pound of Garlic & Onion Pistachios ($7.50). I love buying souvenirs that I can eat, and it was fun to get these home and sample them while remembering my trip through New Mexico. I was shocked, but the wine wasn't half bad! Of course the nuts and olive oil were culinary hits. Check this small shop out if you're in Mesilla. It feels good to support such a down-home, local business.

I'm not a shopper, I'm a buyer; however, my Mrs. seems to enjoy whiling away time looking at things for their intrinsic or aesthetic value... even with no intention of buying them. My kids have also seemed to take after their mother in this regard, so if I can't stay in the car or good off outside, I'll try to find a place to sit and wait. This boutiquey little store off Mesilla Plaza started as a family pistachio business, and while there were doilies and blown glass and butterfly paintings and statuary here, the store features many unique flavored pistachios by the bagful. You don't have to be a little nuts to enjoy little nuts, but it couldn't hurt. Besides there's a little table and booth thing at the front end (probably for wine customers, but no one was there or waiting) for Luddites like me to wait patiently. You'll probably want to come here and find a delightful refrigerator magnet or a fancy wine opener, or some platter for serving crudités to your houseguests. Me? Well, I'm doing my best to be a good and patient husband... not perfect, but better all the time.

The employee or owner named Val is very flirtatious. Women beware ! Very poor and unprofessional people skills. To me this poses a substantial problem for future customers. The behavior is uncalled for, I understand you want sales but flirting is not the way to do it. It's obvious she still has immature tendencies.

Service and hospitality supreme. Wines are a selection of outstanding regional flavors and uniquely characteristic of our southern New Mexican flavors.

Just stopped by after happily seeing there was a store near Las Cruces rather than having to go to Tularosa. The staff there Jules, Sonia, and Elisa were very friendly and answered all our questions and even shared their knowledge on the wonderful wines they carry. This will definitely be a stop we make every time we come to this area to visit my niece at NMSU to come visit this wonderful jewel in Mesilla.

Horrible service, they follow you like if your going to steal something and they won't say what happened to Val. We used to go there because Val for so many years because she would give us great customer service and now we can't even buy wine without feeling uncomfortable. No bueno!
