We are so grateful we found this gym. I have 5 kids in martial arts and my husband. Master Ab is an amazing teacher. He gives each of my kids one on one time. This has helped my son with his anxiety and helped all my kids confidence.

This review is heartbreakingly disappointing for many reasons. My 8 year old son saw a martial arts presentation in his school and since then he wanted to sign up for a karate or tae kwon do class. I came across a 2 week trial class offered by Han's and I signed him up. We arrived in dojo 15 minutes early, and we sat and waited.I got text notification that instructed us to text "here" and that was what we did.My son was enthusiastic and excited to attend the class. He was super inspired by the signs on the walls that says " Fear not the man that practice 10,000 kicks once, but fear the man that practiced one kick 10,000 times" by Bruce Lee. Wow right? And then there's the " A black belt is a white belt that didn't give up when the going gets tough" . He was pumped. I saw a bunch of people that came after us being helped, so I asked a kind gentleman that we were waiting for awhile for our appointment. He was soft spoken and nice and I really liked his vibe. He told us that he is going to notify the person in charge and he should be with us shortly. He told us to wait in the seats closest to the office. And then we were called on to proceed. I saw a guy with his head down writing behind the desk. I said a friendly hello and he didn't even look up. He kept on writing and told me to "sit there" . The tone was a degree below snappy and I laugh inside because it is something you don't usually expect to be treated as such especially when you are a potential student. I am a sucker for punishment so ok... I will bite. My son must have felt the same negative vibe I was feeling at first meeting and he moved closer to me. The sensei then proceeded to tell my son to come forward and ask his name. No introduction of who the heck he is. By this time, my son was already intimidated and closed off from the energy this sensei was giving off. He commanded my son to put his hands out to the side. The sensei demonstrated aggressively and knocked over the swivel chair next to him. He then barked that this is a sign of respect. So that triggered my son's fight and flight response and ran back towards me. SighThe sensei looked surprised and my guess is that Hans has never come across nor has the experience working with neurodivergent kids. My son's tears started flowing and I held it together not to deck this douche bag that is allowed to "teach" confidence and anti bullying to kids. Bullies are never really good teachers. Confidence is fostered through kindness, acceptance and inclusion. If the approach is intimidation and subjugation, it will be hard pass for us.So, thanks for discouraging my son. I had to remind him that it takes greater power to be kind to others than be a jerkwad. Bruce Lee is rolling on his grave. Shame on y'all.

I keep forgetting to review Han's Martial Arts. I enrolled our kids AND hubby because they take kids, teens and adults. It's actually a fun and affordable gym membership with one on one coaching. When I first stopped by it looked chaotic because kids were running around playing, the adults were practicing on the mannequins and there wasn't anyone to man the front desk, which was filled with masks, disinfectant, hand sanitizers. We had called ahead and was told that we can stop by and do a week for free as a trial. I wasn't encouraged by the chaos. When Master Han showed up though, things quickly changed. The noise died down quickly and everyone got into positions with the master and his assistant moving people around. What I came to find out was that this gym used to be a smaller one off Canutillo and he moved it over here to the Westside Covid shut it down for a little bit but all of his loyal clients who have been attending for years stuck with him. It really is a family affair since moms dads brothers and sisters age ranges from 3 years old to 60 go to his classes. He has 3,1 hour open sessions, starting from 4:30-5:30, 5:30-6:30, 6:30-7:30 pm, with each session getting progressively harder even though it's the with the same moves 5 days a week (weekdays). Testing is on Saturdays. You're welcome to attend any of those sessions and also take more than one if you feel like you need to get more exercise for the day. They're pretty strict with being late because you have to respect each other's times. What I like about it is that if you're late for one session you can stay and attend the next one. After we saw the class demonstration, the Master invited us within the 5 to 10 minute time frame that he has in between classes to talk to us about his philosophy and what his vision of the gym is, and he invited us to fill out the forms and we could start attending the sessions. We learned that he and his sister were the number one kickboxing champions or something in the world. He does a combination of martial arts including taekwondo, jujutsu, kickboxing, wing chun, krav maga, etc with an emphasis on defensive reaction, blocking and kicking, and a focus on mastering each move. What I love is that it's not just a chain where you move up because they want more fees out of you in order to get more belts which we experienced in Houston. You test when you're ready and not before and and on top of that they don't want you to hurt yourself so if you are in pain you take a rest and then you do what you can. He also breaks the class halfway to sanitize hands and get water. What I also like is that he does the sessions in 30 minutes increments with showing the moves and lots of stretching in the first half. He then does break up groups in which different level skill sets are broken into groups and the more experienced belts help out inexperienced belts, And it doesn't matter the age level, it's a family environment and everyone helps out and encourages each other. I've seen a boy of six tying my daughter's undone belt because he saw that she was struggling with it, those are the type of values that Master Han instills and the welcoming environment he's created. He takes a moment while stretching instills nuggets of wisdom like respect your parents/family members, love/hug them, and value the sacrifices that they make in order to get you into this class etc. My son and daughter have embraced these values and have been a lot more conscious of what we do for them as parents and exhibit gratitude and mindfulness towards us. It also helps that my husband gets to participate and have fun with them learning the moves and actually being there enjoying his kids, getting an intensive workoutIf you're looking for a great activity for your kids or even yourself, I highly recommend Han's Martial Arts. He staggers pricing with discounts multiples who signs up, fixes pricing for a year so it doesn't change, and works with you if you need to go on vacation or when Covid shutdowns happened; I found the pricing to be very fair. He also gives you a uniform (Gi with belt in red, white, or blue) and a t-shirt. I'm pleased with the amount of knowledge that my kids have learned from Hans Martial Arts. The patience and understanding for each student is top notch. No training class is ever the same. Looking forward to the next belt!

best place for family activity! We've been attending this martial arts place for almost four years now, and it has truly become a cornerstone of our weekly routine. Martial arts here is not just about the practice; it has evolved into a cherished family activity. Since my second child was just crawling around the mat, we've all been involved. Now, both my daughter and I are preparing to earn our black belts, while my once-crawling baby is now a confident purple belt.I initially started martial arts to ensure my daughter could defend herself and speak up confidently. Not only has she become a self-assured young girl, but she also leads beginner kids, helping them excel in their practice.Personally, I love this place because it provides a comfortable environment for me as a mom to exercise, knowing my kids are in good company. It's a win-win and a game changer for our family.
