I found out 9 weeks ago during our return road trip back to Atlanta that Fabens rest area on I-10 eastbound is well placed for me. My bladder was letting me know that I needed to stop for a short but very necessary bio break, and, there it was, a badly needed rest stop offramp appeared!Parking was easily found, since we were the only ones at the rest stop at the time. The men's restroom was clean, and airy, and aired out, mainly because the room covered only half of the men's restroom. Yep, half covered, half open air restroom. And everything worked well, and they served my purpose of stopping here.

Texas has some of the most random roadside attractions in America. During my trips through west Texas I saw oil wells, wind farms, dead cows being feasted on by vultures, open oil pits, abandoned homes and a really big fence. I also happened to stop at this rest area which some helper before me decided deserved a listing. Here's what makes this rest area special:Location - When traveling through West Texas you need to be prepared for long stretches of nothingness. During those stretches your body will often tell you it's time to peemand that's where this rest area comes in handy. Located in the middle of nowhere, this place has a couple of clean bathrooms, a mountain view and signs warning of rattlesnakes. Bathroom - Typical rest area bathrooms which is to say they were clean and functional. View - The view of the mountain across the interstate is stellar. If you've never ventured out west you cannot understand just how blue the sky can be. It's beautiful. Right above the rest area looked to be a hiking trail with signs warning of rattlesnakes. I'd bet the view from the trail is even better, but rattlesnakes and I have a history so I stuck to the view from the parking lot. In summary, if you've got to pee in West Texas, this is where you should pee.

Definitely not the best rest stop I've ever been to, but also not the worst. The bathrooms were relatively clean but none of the toilets flushed and were consequently filled with waste and toilet paper. I heard the men's restroom was decent. Well lit, and clean floors. Also beware if you bring dogs, the floor is covered with stickers
