I was anxious about cataract surgery, but I had to have it, I couldn't drive at night anymore, and couldn't see well even in the daytime. Dr. Hernandez was reassuring, and his staff was wonderful. They were so kind and patient and told me enough about the procedure to make me feel safe. The result was amazing. My vision is so clear, it's a new, beautiful world of color and light. No more glare, it's easy to drive at night now, and I can read signs from a great distance. My vision is amazing. I recommend him to everyone who needs an eye surgeon.

Provider: Eyes of the Southwest, 2810 N. Telshore Blvd, Las Cruces, NM 88011Date of Routine Eye Exam: 05/22/2024 (According to the provider, I signed something giving them the "option" to bill Humana instead of EyeMed Vision. Consequently, I incurred a $30 co-pay.)Date of Eyes of the Southwest Bill for $40 for "REFRACTION" (the act or technique of determining ocular refraction and identifying abnormalities as a basis for the prescription of corrective lenses): 06/05/24 (According to the provider on 08/12/2024, "REFRACTION" is the prescription. In my 72 years, I have never before been charged separately for a prescription.)Eyes of the Southwest refused to bill EyeMed Vision, which would have covered the "REFRACTION" and eliminated the $30 co-pay.Lastly, I had to return the glasses to Sam's Club using the provider's Rx, 'REFRACTION," because I could not see clearly.

Having used Kaiser in Colorado as my eye exam go to for years, with excellent results I might add, Eyes of the Southwest, is about as far from an excellent eye exam as you can get. The eye exam itself was hurried, and I did not trust the prescription for new glasses given. The OD, which there is only one of, was also very hurried in a quick exam and consultation. My wife and I were charged for the exams, and I was billed $40 for refraction at another lab, excuse me.Found out it was a billing code error. We should not have been charged at all per Humana insurance!Good luck getting reimbursed. With one OD and ophthalmologist, they hardly have the time to give you a thorough exam, and see that amount of people, there must have been at least 20 people shuttled through, and I sat in the waiting room with nine other people. It took approx. 2 hours just for my exam. Also, the OD does not give you the exam, young ladies (Qualified???) give the exam, and show you the waiting room until the OD can see you.If you like being treated like a herd of cattle through a chute, this is the place to come!Wife and I won't return - ever. Live and learn.

I am having OptLight treatments with Dr. Newbold for my extremely dry, painful, chronically irritated eyes. This treatment really really works. Dr. Newbold is a very competent doctor and I am exceedingly happy with the results. My dry eye is simply gone. It seems almost miraculous. All of the pain and discomfort I'd been having is...gone. I am doing the happy dance and I would recommend this treatment and Dr. Newbold to anyone suffering from dry eye.

The office is lovely, everything else was not. Staff was curt and seemed very unhappy. Dr Newbold was a bulldozer. I felt like I was being herded like cattle and not a human being, especially with the Dr. He made it very clear my questions were not welcome and he was trying to move on as quick as possible. I will not be going here again.

A year ago I was told by Dr Lara that I had a permanent floater and my brain would learn to see around it. Today another doctor told me I have a fungus that is causing the eye to bleed, thus the blind spot. I'll be getting injections and hoping it doesn't get any worse. I've lost a year of treatment that could have produced a better result.
