The towns along US-90 are an hour or so apart and we needed a place to stop for one night right where Sanderson is located. The Desert Air is a 1960's-era stop motel with ample parking for our Jeep towing a small Airstream trailer.Clean room. Microwave. Refrigerator. Large tiled shower. Very clean room. We'd certainly stay at the Desert Air again.

Very fair price for the room I stayed in. Comfortable bed. Room is immaculate. And the microwave & mini-fridge are so retro cute. Plenty of parking. What a value.

I was having a road trip from Ontario California to San Antonio Texas. I wanted to stay at a place off the beaten path. After searching and reading the reviews I settled on the Desert Air Motel. I had a room in the adjacent hotel, Outback Oasis motel, Desert Air had purchased, I believe in April 2022. For me the room was ok but not for the price I paid. I loved the small town feel which is what I was looking for. If I stayed there again it would have to be in the Desert Air not the Outback Oasis.

Stayed here on Christmas day, 2020. Chose this place because it was on our route to the Judge Roy Bean museum in Langtree--one of the planned stops on a family road trip. And the region isn't teeming with 5-star inns. The Desert Air is a classic 1950s-era vintage motel (built and opened, actually, in 1960). If you are expecting the ambiance and modern amenities of a Holiday Inn Express, you'll be disappointed. But if (like me) you occasionally like traveling back to a simpler, less hectic time, this place is pleasant, clean, inexpensive, and comfortable. Rooms are small with minimalist tiled bathrooms--replete with phone-both-sized showers.Behind the hotel (still on the property) is an ancient school bus that had been converted into something like an RV before being abandoned in the hotel's back yard. A shelter has been built over it as if it were a museum piece. All these emblems of the past are somehow endearing. It's clear that refurbishing and running this motel is a labor of love for someone. In a desert region with few hostelry choices, this is the one I would recommend.

Taking the long road (US-90) to San Antonio. Checking out the history of Southwest Texas via US Highways. We needed a place to stay. And as a child, I loved staying at places like this on our family, driving, vacations. The new-ish owners have been working on remodeling and updates the past couple years. The classic neon sign drew me in. And the cool Ocotillo room with "cowboy" tub.I think they are doing an awesome job so far and look forward to staying again to see the additional updates.

"Thanks", Desert Air! I slept in my car because of this "nice" place. Another places were very far and it was really difficult to find something for affordable price in this area. And the owners were nice and we think we will be have a good calm night, haha. The room wasn't dirty, but ALL was full of bugs and butterflies... when we turned on the conditioner, it started to ventilate air, but NOT freeze it! It was the hottest night in my life -- about 42 Celsius on the daytime and about 35 Celsius at night. Even the wind was hot!!! So how is it possible not to check your air conditioners??? The owners complained me about the weather and temperature, but, cmon, you can't develop your shitty business if you don't have money EVEN for conditioners!!! My husband was driving for 10 hours and decided to sleep in the room (WITHOUT CONDITIONER), but I decided to sleep in the car, cause I can't even breathe in the room! Avoid this place. It's absolutely disgusting even the people were nice with you (of course, they will be nice, because tourists in this area are very rare!)

Aside from the fact that it was a cold, snowy night which I was able to overlook because the gentleman who checked me in was so so kind and brought me an extra heater for the restroom in my room. Everything went well until check out the next morning. Thank God I had a super hot cup of coffee in my hand. I walked out the door and heard a bunch of dogs barking at the neighborhood lot. All of a sudden I see four huge dogs including pitbulls running toward me and I didn't know what to do. I couldn't even move I was frozen. There was so much snow and ice underneath me I couldn't risk running as I might fall. About 5 feet away The dogs are ready to attack and I yelled stop and they still didn't stop. I ended up throwing my hot coffee at them which put a pause on things. They were still growling at me and trying to attack. I yelled stop several times. The owner of those dogs was trying the entire time to prevent them but they did not obey her and continue to run full force toward me. I did say a prayer and I think that's the reason I'm still here. It was like the devil was attacking. Scary af! Thank You God I'm alive.

This institution is apparently operated entirely on the "sure, but it's not like you can do better without driving an awfully long way" principle.Comfortable enough, I guess, but the room is designed apparently without any reference to what anyone staying in a hotel might actually want in a hotel room. The TV is visible from two uncomfortable chairs, for instance, but not from either of the beds; and there's less space to put toothbrushes and contact lens cases and shampoo in the bathroom than any motel at which I've ever stayed. It took more than a half hour to check in, not because there was anyone waiting in line in front of us--there wasn't--but because the good ol' boy behind the mustache behind the counter told us his life story, everything he knows about the town, and what he thinks about immigration before giving us the key. He then disappeared for the evening; there were no phones in the rooms, and no one answered the front desk phone when I called it from my cell phone, so there was no way to get the WiFi password ... so, essentially, there was no WiFi. There was a fridge in the room, but it didn't work, though it was in fact plugged in. Comfortable enough, and I guess they were well-intentioned, and it was clean, and it is in fact true that there is no better option in town, as far as we could tell.
