City of Hatch

We loved our visit to Hatch, population 1600. It's in the middle of nowhere New Mexico but is the acknowledged chile capital! We had to visit to experience it!We did some shopping and came away with six different chile powders, ranging from mild to extra extra hot, as well as green chile salsa and a large assortment of gifts for relatives. The famous and tasty Hatch Chile must be grown in Hatch or it's not the same. Laws require proper labeling! It was developed by Fabián Garcia at the New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts, now known as the New Mexico State University, in 1894.The town is tiny with a few small restaurants and plenty of chiles for sale along with chile art, chile sculptures, chile magnets, chile anything you can think of!Life is better with tasty Hatch chiles!
