The general store museum could be the most interesting and authentic experience you'll get from any old ghost town in the West. High recommended!

Decided to stop by on the way back from White Sands National Monument towards I-40. Heard about it from newmexico.org. It takes awhile to reach Chloride from I-25 but well worth it! We were the only ones there and the couple approached us and offered to give us a tour of the museum. The museum was excellent. The woman who gave the tour was great at explaining the various objects that were left behind back in the day. It felt like I stepped back in time! I like how they are renovating the town, yet keeping to the original character of the building. There's a gift shop which sells objects made by local artists. There's also a cafe, but was closed when we went (went on a Monday). There are latrines so bring hand sanitizer. Would definitely go back in the future when I'm in the area! Vistied July 2013

I was there in 2007, I understand that there is much more there now. I went there to visit the cemetery up the mountain because my great great grandmother is buried there. I love chloride so much I would live there if possible, the people there are wonderful, I actually have their private phone number. I love the hanging tree it is a sight to see. Anyone that has an opportunity to go there should go. I would go back but due to my age I just can't so please visit and enjoy. Visit the cemetery.

Decided to stop by some ghost towns while in route to Sedona AZ from Las Cruces NM. All were a bit disappointing EXCEPT Chloride! Worth the drive out. Agree with prior reviewer. We were one of three couples out exploring that day. The townsfolk were great. Toured the museum, shopped in the gallery, walked through a historic home, and enjoyed a great meal in the cafe. They even have a "hanging tree" smack dab in the middle of town (in the middle of the road).
