We stayed two nights at the Palomino campground (full service). The view was amazing, the fishing was fun despite not catching anything, and the other campers in our area were polite and friendly. The camp host was Al, and he helped me find a spot to go fishing. Very affordable and not crowded. The bathrooms were clean. We loved our weekend getaway and will definitely be returning

This is a gorgeous state Park with very nice large sites. We are in Palomino Loop which is high and overlooks Caballo Lake. There are hiking trails all over, a boat launch, and beach areas on the water. We will be kayaking once the sun comes back out. Will definitely stay here again.

So we get here and they tell us no one from outside of New Mexico is allowed in New Mexico State Parks.... Wow how duchey is that.So it turns out we can get in. The super great staff at Elephant Butte explained everything to us, five stars for them. Still one here for staff looking at our license plate at telling us to leave.

Very nice clean state park. Staff was wonderful, and this is right on the Rio Grand river. We spent a week here, and thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet we had while here. I was told it gets super crowded on holiday weekends, but that was ok as we weren't there during that time. The place stayed pretty full, but the bathrooms were kept very clean every day. Price is $14 for e/w or $10 developed. If you have a park pass it is cheaper. We would definitely go back

Very nice state park with nice views of the lake. There are nice shower, bathroom buildings. I have always been able to easily get spots in the New Mexico state parks, but after I left, I heard that all spots in this campground will be reserve only. That saddens me, since it will be harder to get a full week unless it is reserved months ahead. Photos - https://landcruisingadventure.blogspot.com/2019/06/caballo-lake-state-park-new-mexico.html

I love this park. We stayed several days in the Palomino campground and enjoyed it. Just wish there was sewer hookups in the other camps that were not so close together. We hope to be back soon. Lots to do in this area.
