Whenever I'm visiting my hometown of Las Cruces, NM, it's tradition that I breakfast at Bravo's before I leave town. A true local spot that you'd likely only know about if you'd lived in town for more than two decades, Bravo's always makes me feel like I'm back home again with their self-serve carafes of coffee in the back of the restaurant, burners always on and hot, and the bright, colorful plastic table cloths. I once had a boss who would bring me red chile-bean burritos from Bravo's during my lunch shifts; an exceptional treat. Personally, I only ever get the menudo - it's what I'm there for, and if you have the taste for it, this is the place to get it. I grew up on menudo, I used to watch my grandmother clean the trípas for what seemed like hours before it could be incorporated in with the red chile and hominy. I know what good menudo is because of my grandma, and Bravo's has good menudo. Their red chile is deep, rich, and flavorful; a clean broth from clean trípas, and plenty of hominy, of course. Served with hot buttered bread, chopped onions, lime, and oregano, you can't ask for a heartier way to start a long day or get over a hang over. Take time to make a stop the next time your passing through, but go slow! It's easy to pass and easy to underestimate. Cash only joint.

I have to say that I love the menudo here and don't come here to often. I just don't understand why they have so many flys always in this restaurant. Winter or Summer there is always lots of flys! How is it that the health department doesn't shut them down? Maybe it's the reason they don't have the restaurant grade the health department gives is not displayed anywhere in the restaurant!

Food was tasty. The horchata didnt thrill me at all, but everything else was really good. I liked the menudo and the flautas. Spent $27 for two people to eat. Its worth it, I would recommend.

This place was my "Go To" place back in college. It was close and cheap. Its been nearly 15 years since I been there. Went back recently. The chili relleno was still bad ass. I think it was only $3 something too.Thank you Bravos for keeping your taste. Remember a place called Go-Burger?, they comprimised their tast and I think they are gone now.The place is small with small tables. Don't bring a large group. Order at the counter and find a seat. Try the Chili Relleno.Sadly this is still a cash only business.

Our first quick and delicious stop on a long road trip. I ordered green burritos (pork, cheese chili and beans), a bean and cheese burrito and a tamale. Everything was simply excellent. My order came to only $12.50. Just be aware that they are cash only! The front and outsides of the shop are a bit shabby and the inside could use a little love as well. It's not a big issue though. They obviously prioritize food above image!

I stopped by on the recommendation of a coworker. I ordered bean and cheese with green chili and a barbacoa burrito. I didn't realize that they only take cash or check and the man at the counter was nice enough to say, "Pay next time!"I sent them a check in the mail, just because I never feel comfortable owing people money,Anyways, the bean and cheese burrito was DELISH! The barbacoa was greasier than the one at Burritos Victoria. I think next time I am in I will order gorditas or tacos.

Hole in the wall establishment serving up south New Mexican comfort food prepared the same way your Mexican grandmother used to.I ordered the combination plate which came with red chile meat, green chile meat, refried beans, Spanish rice and a red enchilada. Really Good. You don't want to overdo it at a place like this, unless it's for Menudo on the weekends to recover from that brutal hangover from the night before.I should also mention that this is an archaic cash only establishment so be forewarned credit or debit cards are not excepted (also the reason for 3 stars instead of 4).

A VERY SMALL CAFE WITH MEDIOCRE FOODBravo's Cafe is ranked 47th on the 2018 Mr. Sensitive list of the Mexican food restaurants around Las Cruces. And, my frame of reference; I've dined in "every" Mexican restaurant in town on numerous occasions.I have dined at Bravo's several times over the past few years trying my best to be fair and objective about this place. Here is what I've concluded: This is a relatively tidy but not exactly thrilling place to dine. It is sort of a bare bones setup. There is a little counter where you order your food and about six or eight tables. It can get claustrophobic in there if busy. I have experienced wobbly table tops and tops not level with the floor....sort of slanting. The ambiance, in other words, is below average; fit only for the most casual meal. I have always found the person taking orders at the front of the house to be pleasant and efficient. My food has always been prepared timely. But, I have never received a follow up by a member of the staff. If you need something you get up and ask. And, on the several visits I've made, I have never received what I consider a "good meal." The menu is basic Mexican/New Mexican. Prices are most reasonable as you would expect with a little place like this serving the neighborhood Hispanic population. I most recently had their Mexican Plate along with a green chile meat burrito. There were no chips and salsa served with the meal (which is often the case in the more traditional Mexican places.) The refried beans were completely tastless....actually pretty poor. The rice was ordinary. The taco shell was hard, chewy, and greasy, but the meat filling was nicely seasoned. The little flauta shell was crispy and tasty but the little bit of shredded beef inside was quite ordinary. The guacamole over the top of the flauta was pretty good and the combination worked. The enchilada was really poor. It seemed as if it had been sitting around in a pan overnight and just plucked out and put on my plate. This was one of the worst enchiladas I've ever had. The tamale was mediocre. The worst part of the meal was the chile relleno which was saturated with oil.....a disaster. I would never think of ordering this meal again. The green chile meat burrito was average in size. The beef chunks inside were not as tender as we would like and not very flavorful. There was not a lot of green chile in the burrito and not a lot of green chile flavor. There were some potato chunks and some of their poor refried beans in there which really hurt the overall taste. The burrito was accompanied by a little cup of green salsa or chile sauce which had a kick to it. I would not look forward to this burrito a second time. I have decided to no longer dine at this establishment. There is just no reason to.So, if you go what can you expect? A most casual dining experience in a small, and not so thrilling environment. And, food that is mostly mediocre to poor. This place is best left to the neighborhood Hispanic population.Restaurant rating = TWO-AND-A-HALF STARS....meaning below average.
