Riddle me this. If you were a couple dining out during a major pandemic, and the restaurant you were dining in had ALL the free tables you could possibly choose from, would you sit at the ONLY table that just so happens to be like RIGHT next to the only other couple up in that joint?! Keep in mind these tables are less than the designated "safe space" of 6 feet away from each other. One couple did such a thing this evening. I wanted to smack them both over the damn head with my empty dinner plate I had just finished polishing off because the food was THAT good. But...since I'm clearly using this joke of a preamble to rant incessantly, we should probably get on with the actual review, yes? Yes. Let's-a-go!As at least one other review previously mentioned, Borderland Steakhouse is the replacement of the late Original Great American steakhouse. To cut right to the chase, I'll say it is a worthy successor to its stead. While not perfect, we WILL be coming back!As per usual, le wifey got the 10oz filet with the mac n' queso (yep, that's what they're calling it) whilst I went for my all time favorite...the grilled lobster tail. Only it didn't taste grilled. Eh....let's go over this real quick. So, we start off with our respective salads. Though I can only speak to the quality of the Caesar salad, I'll just say it was fine, but nothing to write home about. 7 out of 10.Now, like I said, the lobster tail didn't taste (or look) grilled. Maybe that's because we've been spoiled by the previous installment's version of grilled lobster tail. We're talking serious char, yo! But this....this one looked more like it was oven roasted (I mean, they even keep the shell attached). Which is fine, since the tail itself was tender and fully cooked. Couldn't really ask for much more than that. Though the menu description is a bit dubious when considering the basis for comparison. Anyway, this one gets an 8 out of 10.Tried the wifey's filet also. Despite her mishap in giving me the fatty piece, the part that mattered was pretty damn good. A solid 8 out of 10 for me.The sides, while not especially remarkable, were fine also. The wife mentioned something about the mac n' queso needing some salt and pepper, but that's it. Oh! But we need to discuss the grilled mushrooms though. These things....were burnt to a crisp. I was honestly shocked! Ordinarily, I like a bit of char on my grilled goodies. But these mushrooms were burnt, dry as day-old apricots on the inside, and basically inedible. I have no idea if the kitchen staff even have the ability to maybe cook these less next time, but we didn't ask, since we were too busy enjoying everything else anyway.Overall, I'd recommend checking this place out, if for no other reason than to support another local business. Most of the necessary safety precautions are in place, minus the daft couple sitting literally two feet away from us (not really the restaurant's fault). I'm gonna give Borderland Steakhouse 4 grilled lobster tails which taste suspiciously oven roasted out of 5.

Just not cutting it..... they were out of 3 of the steaks on the menu and they do not even have a NY strip on offer. The garden salad and Caesar salad were ok but nothing to write home about. My companion had the grilled shrimp with Mac and Queso, it was ok, but the shrimp was over cooked. The Ribeye is where it fell apart, over seasoned, extremely over cooked - I ordered it medium rare, and the meat was dark through, extremely gristly, and pockets of salt throughout. Honestly one of the worst steaks I have had - we keep wanting to like this steakhouse because it's the closest restaurant to our home but it's just getting worse. The main attraction seems to be the bar and live music outside..... so it that's what you are going for you will have a better experience - but the steakhouse is a non-starter

Whew! Where to start honestly. Let me just say this is NOT the amazing Great American Steakhouse it once was. So now that I have that out of the way let's move on to the truth of the matter. My husband and I enjoy eating out, know great food and are willing to pay for it. So price was not an issue but this was out of line. It appears there are new owners but yet nothing has been updated in the restaurant. The tables, chairs benches all appear the same. So going upstairs the first thing we noticed was it was like 85 degrees and fans going at full speed. . We decided on chips and salsas to start, they never arrived. I had the 10oz "filet mignon", with Caesar salad and baked potato. That was NOT a filet mignon. It was more a sirloin that had grizzle and tendons. And it appeared like a frozen piece of meat that when cut looked like ground beef. It was nasty. No seasoning, wrong temperature and tough to cut. The potato was way overdone. It tasted like it had been sitting in the oven for hours. My husband's arrachera was wrong temperature and had a huge pile of grilled onions. Why? Why hide the meat under onions? I ordered a Paloma drink. It tasted like flat dishwater. Bartender needs some schooling. So as I said price is not an issue but when you charge me $38 for a "fake" cut of meat that tastes awful, I was not happy. As far as the staff. Someone came out of the kitchen holding a hamburger plate to take down to the bar. Kitchen staff. Wearing a filthy apron and pants. He just looked so dirty and all I could think of was "did he cook our food??!" Our waitress was nice, although she only checked on us once and she never once asked why my whole plate was pushed to the side and I wasn't eating. I would've explained. The final straw was going to bathroom on way out and in every corner there was dirt, screws(?) and trash. My final point is don't bother. Don't spend your hard earned money on such bad service, food and drink. What a disappointment. It was a sad anniversary dinner.

"Borderland Steakhouse" is in the same location from former "Great American Land & Cattle Restaurant" the previous restaurant closed approximately Spring 2019 and "Borderland Steakhouse" opened a few months back (From March 2020) Beautiful location, friendly and attentive costumer service. Good food. With a party of nine they did take way longer to serve the food than expected but once the food was on the table the service and taste was so delicious I forgot all about the wait. The restaurant was not busy specially for a Sunday afternoon. I did not love their guac I felt it needed salt/condiments but they queso and salsa was spicy and delish. Steaks did not disappoint. The views of this restaurant are incredible I am looking forward to come back. They have a dance floor and bar on the 1st floor. Restaurant on the second floor.

Poor and shocking. Carpet smelled. Expensive steak that was very thin. Seemed like no new decor. Hope it gets better.

This place is a hidden gem in the northeast that is so worth a visit. Their food and drink selections are many, with different price ranges too. The food is excellent, the service is great, and the ambiance is nice with a great view of the city. Go on a night when there's live music, either indoors or outdoors, for a full night or afternoon of entertainment.
