My son and his girlfriend home burned down Jan 22, 2017. They lost everything they owned except the clothes they had on. The Red Cross in Las Cruces, NM gave them some initial help, and said don't do anything else until your case worker contacts you. That was over a week ago, but after many phone calls, the case worker has not contacted them. And the original Red Cross person who came to do the intact information, keeps passing the buck and saying call the case worker...but the case worker never responds, or has tried to contact them. Meanwhile, they still have no place to stay and need help with housing, replacing their documents and are basically having to put their lives on hold. They were told, "Don't worry, you will have follow up help after the fire"....but crickets chirping. Then today, Red Cross has put an ad online for donations to help Syrian Refugees. That's OK, but these kids are US citizens who've paid taxes, who'd parents did as well and who's fathers are US Veterans.
