Hola! We went out on a limb today because a server we know moved their employment here from another restaurant we used to go to but has sadly went down hill. Anyway this is my first fist here and the food was good. I had a chili relleneo with rice and beans. My husband had a combination with a little bit of everything on it. Tacos, flantas, quesadillas and rice and beans. Overall the Service was excellent 2. The food tasted freshly prepared and number 3. Staff was friendly. I think the restaurant needs an good overall cleaning and updates to improve the dining area and restrooms. That is the only reason why I gave 3 stars.I'll be back and you should check it out.

Incredibly average Mexican food. The menu is pretty standard assortment of tacos, burritos, enchiladas etc. while the portions are pretty sizable nothing has a ton of flavor to set it apart from any of the competition.

Well I don't if I agree with everyone else's reviews on here about this place.............I COMPLETELY AGREE! The chips WERE fresh. The salsa WAS tasteful w/ the right amount of kick. Now let me interrupt myself and talk about the horchata...ugh the horchata! I mean not only was it good but for 3$ it comes in big fat n tall coke cup. #substantial. Now, before I was deliciously interupted... the main dish (Chile rojo... I think?) Pulled pork in mole sauce...was delightful. Again, having the right amount of kick. I think I will go with the flour tortillas next time though....as well as try a dessert. My only complaint...help a gringo out here..que es el metate en ingles porfavor?

Food and drinks were absolutely delicious. Me & babe had the quesadilla's and I had rice and beans on the side. He had a frozen margarita and I had the non-alcoholic sangria which I never knew was a thing . I'm pregnant, so I def have been missing out but not today! Lol. When we arrived it looked like they were closed because it was barely any cars but the service was quick, food was hot and fresh and it was an all around great experience. The prices are literally some of the best prices for the quality of the food!

My requirements for good Mexican food is simple.- Murals on the walls - Strong margs - Queso dip. The White kind, not the Texas sh*t. - Unlimited chips - Friendly staff This place met and exceeded all expectations. After 2 margs and a little conversation, all of the sudden, a third one appeared out of nowhere, on the house. Not to say they would do this for everyone, but it was a kind gesture that I returned in way of tip. These folks are kind and fun. It is now my go to in Nashville. And there were no idiots in fedoras or tight jeans. HUGE bonus.

We were in the mood for some authentic Mexican food and figured we would have better luck if we left the downtown Nashville area. El Metate popped up on Yelp and had good reviews. Off to the Northeast side of Nashville.Pros - it is really easy to find. There is a private parking lot, not large, but since street parking is not really an option on this busy street, it is a bonus. You pull up to the restaurant and it looks a little worn down and sketchy. But keep an open mind.We were there before noon on a Saturday and the place was pretty full. All locals. No tourists. I would say 90% of the people in the restaurant were Hispanic--that's a good sign at a Mexican restaurant. There were two servers working the restaurant and they were busy! We were seated right away and given menus. When we opened the menus, we both laughed. There are so many menu items! The print was so small to fit all of the items they offered. No lunch specials on Saturdays but that was okay.I decided to go with the Fajitas Jalisco and my fiance went with the Carne Asada. The server brought us tortilla chips and salsa and we waited about 10-15 minutes before our lunch came out. All of the food that was being served to the tables around us looked so good. I have no idea what some of the dishes were but man--they smelled good, they were sizzling and I was getting hungry. When our food came out, I think my jaw dropped. The portions are HUGE. Honestly, I could have split my fajitas with at least two other people. The fajitas had chicken, beef, shrimp, onions and green peppers--grilled to perfection and piping hot. The side of rice and beans was a full entree plate full of rice, beans, lettuce, guacamole and pico de gallo PLUS tortillas on the side. I wish I had not eaten so many tortilla chips before my food came. I barely put a dent into my food and ended up with two boxes of food to go.The carne asada was just as large. Two big pieces of beef, rice, beans, tortillas...the works. We will definitely go back and we will definitely be hungry. For both of us, the bill was under $28 and I think I will be eating fajitas for at least two more meals. Check it out--it's worth the drive!

I've been consistently ordering out and eating here as my favorite local spot for the last 5 years, but had the worst experience last night. It was extremely disheartening and unfortunately appears I will need to find a new place. We showed an hour before close, and were treated horribly. Told no more rice because it's so close to closing, totally fine. But when asked what we could order in substitution as everything we tried to order had some form of rice, was spoken down to aggressively and beyond unprofessionally. When we did order two entrees, the first came out not even 5 min later, extremely under prepared and disgustingly. We didn't get our other plate til almost 10 min later. Despite Uber eats orders still being taken and picked up, we were very obviously rushed out, even tho it wasn't even 10 min til closing. I can honestly say I've never been treated so poorly and rudely.

Disclaimer: This review is of may 2022, not sure if it still holds true. Excellent food, stopped by on our way back from an out of town visit. Margaritas were a resounding Yes!!! Food was fresh/awesome. We were 12 of us and ordered a variety of items and all were a hit!
