El Hornito Bakery

El Hornito is truly a hidden gem! It's located in a small strip mall off Murfreesboro Pike with plenty of parking. However, I will say that if you're not looking for it, you won't find it, so stay on the look out! This small Mexican bakery is most definitely popular among the locals and I just happened to pop by when I was driving in the area out of curiosity. I am so glad that I did. As soon as you walk in, you'll see a tray and tongs table to your left. It's self serve so you grab one and put whatever you would like to purchase on your tray. When I tell you there are hundreds of baked goods for you to try from, I'm really not joking. There's a variety of sweets lining up the store walls for you to choose from. There are even some hot pastries and cakes you can purchase from the counter. I was definitely overwhelmed by the choice and things aren't labeled, so I let my eyes do the picking. I randomly grabbed three of the prettiest deserts I could find. One was a cream and jam filled pastry, one was a cake, and one was a cookie. Each of them had such a unique and authentic flavor. After taking a bit of each one, I understood why this place was packed even late on a Sunday night. The best part is, when I paid for these three sweets, my total was less than $5. Amazing food for this deal?! Sign me up! I will be back very soon and buying more baked goods than I could ever imagine!

I dropped into this Mexican bakery on a whim after seeing it from planet fitness. The bakery is very big and offers a wide range of desserts. The custom cakes were beautifully designed. Everything is super cheap. Most pastries are one dollar each. They do have a bilingual person who can explain everything to you so don't be afraid of any language barrier. And they're super friendly

It was a last minute decision to satisfy a sweet tooth and it was the best decision to go on this night as the Bakery was hosting their 7th anniversary celebration. I got some pastry items and even a savory chicken pastry and went to check on the festivities which the kids and adults were participating in.PS - The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

These are the best pastries I have ever eaten. The selection is huge and changes often. I liked the donuts the best. They were not super sweet.This is a def go to place if you are in the area grabbing lunch

This is such a unique bakery in the US. You can see everything you plan to get and you can self serve on many of the items (which is helpful for the selective type). I got quite a variety of sweet breads and cookie like desserts. Excellent treats and unique enough to be a good break from the Dunkin Donuts routine. Actually, El Hornito's would become a routine if it were closer to home.

I have been to plenty of bakeries around Nashville, and none of them compare to the deliciousness of this one. Forever a loyal customer Definitely recommend the tiramisu they have.

If you live in this area or you visit Nashville often (like me) this is a great place to stop by! For the last few years my family has bought my favorite cake for my bday from this bakery (Tres leches cake) I'm pretty sure I tried all the different pastries and breads!

This place looks like one of my guilty pleasure dreams - shelves full of different varieties of baked goods that too at such a cheap price! We were there for about 15 minutes and it was clear that this is one of the most visited bakeries. People kept coming and going. It was as if everyone except us knew how things work and what all they wanted. Then finally someone from the staff saw us and helped us out.So, as soon as you walk through the doors, you will see tray and tongs. Just grab one of each and start dumping on the tray whatever you would like to buy. When you are finished shopping, go to the counter and they will check you out. You will not see any shiny storefront so keep an eye out for this bakery. You can take your kids there and they can have as much sugary treat as they want. We happened to be having dinner nearby and decided to check out this bakery afterwards. We felt a little lost when we walked in because we didn't observe any signs labeling the different varieties of bread. However, an employee quickly walked up to us and let us know that the trays and tongs were by the door, and identified a few of the breads that looked interesting to us. Since it was our first time here, I was hesitant and choose two items--a pineapple bread and a cherry bread. The purchase was less than $2. Something like $1.80, which seemed really inexpensive because the two items were pretty hefty in size.Took them back to our hotel and split them in half. OMG...they were so good. I was tempted to eat the other half but decided to be nice and share them with my husband who thought they were good too.For the next two days, I kept thinking about this bakery and ways I could convince my husband to take me back there. However, my conscience for trying not to eat too many sweets and carbs got the better of me and we didn't have a chance to go back. But in the future, if we're ever in the area again, I can't wait to go back to this bakery and try more of their items. So delicious! Glad it's not close to where I live otherwise I'd be in trouble!

The cake was so yummy I've never eaten a cake with such a rich flavor. The Uber delivered this in such a timely manner. Everyone was so delighted with this cake and I'll definitely recommend this place you won't regret and it's 100% worth the money!!!
