El Charro

Walked over from the beach to get my family some food. Didn't remember this spot, but some childhood memories of maybe eating here? We had my kid and our friends kid and both agreed on taco shop, so I went and got the bean and cheese burrito and carne taco requested. Some fish tacos and two burritos, a cali and a mixed. The one kid devoured a whole adult bean and cheese. My kid inhaled a carne taco and forked up the rest (came in boxes. Pro move.) The adults, my lady and her friend put a cali burrito away like it was life. I had a fish taco. It was the PERFECT food to eat at La Jolla Shores. I ate half the mixed burrito, and felt my little local inner child radiate. It tasted like growing up in San Diego. Dude had wrapped it in paper, the only appropriate burrito wrapping, and then did foil it, because he knew I was walking. Super pro move, and genuinely appreciated. Always paper,folks. Texture is key. This is the beach spot, people. If you want to taste San Diego, and at one of my favorite beaches, give this place your money, and grab a burrito and walk back to the sand. Cannot stress enough, red sauce. Load up at the salsa bar. Only sad I didn't try the hot Cheeto burrito. 4-5 people came in and ordered one after I ordered. Was told it was that or the Cali as the most popular.

A great spot! Authentic Mexican food. The staff are friendly and respectful of allergies if you have them. In our case even asked additional questions to make sure they got the order correct. Food cooked to order and very fresh. Our plates came out hot with the steam coming off the plates. Fish tacos were solid. Everything was delicious in our experience.The inside of the restaurant has a decent amount of seating and is super chill/casual. Service was quick and this was exactly what we were hoping for. We had stopped in for dinner and had a great experience here. Would stop in again if I am in the area.

We ordered a chicken taco and chicken quesadilla both swimming in grease.Meh! Nasty -so that lunch set us back 27$?Yep, go in town away from the beach ...

I have found the best fish burrito in La Jolla near the beach! It's not fancy but I'd rather judge the place on the food and service. When I'm in San Diego, I just want to eat seafood. Fish tacos or burritos are my benchmark when trying a new restaurant. El Charro more than meets it. I ate the whole burrito in 15 mins. It's the fresh fish, lightly but crispy batter, tender fish, crunchy cabbage or the tangy sauce. It was all of it! Yes , for $15, it better be good, but this was a huge burrito (almost a pound) that satisfied my eyes and my taste buds. I know where to go next time again and again! El Charro! The service was great and the bathrooms were clean.

I'm surprised by the mixed reviews here. I ordered a California Burrito with carne and it was fantastic! Really enjoyed it!

Friendly/helpful service, food was very delicious. And ambiance is very chill. Perfect spot with lots of options to choose from.

I was visiting and gave this place a try and was truly disappointed , especially with the service & prices ! Upon arriving cashier was busy on her phone and didn't really have a great attitude, did not make the visit very pleasant . Way too over priced to be acting this way.Carne asada burrito was ok .. The taco stand in San Diego is worth the visit ! Go get an authentic burrito there if your looking for good Mexican food.

I am a sometimes resident at the Shores and had forgotten how great El Charro is - I don't understand the low star rating. We ordered two chicken tacos and one chicken burrito - that would have been more than enough for four people at least! Fresh ingredients and good flavors. And best of all, it was not overly salty. This place really is quite awesome and I encourage you to try it when you are at the Shores. The woman at the counter was also very friendly and nice. What more could we want.

I don't know about the rest of the food, but I just tried their Adobada burrito and it was mind blowing. It was VERY messy and the burrito just simply turned red the more I ate because of the marinade/sauce of the meat (which I really like) and the flavors were nothing but godlike. Do not sleep on their Adobada burrito. Also their salsa bar is very small in selection but they are all good and perfect, nothing else is needed.
