Ed Fernandez Restaurant Birrieria

This place is the best Ive never had Birria this good in my entire life. The service is amazing people are so nice and price is very good too. Thank for so much for everything.

I tried combo #1 and torta and I really enjoyed my meal. I'm a sucker for tortas so I had to get that. It was very meaty which is nice. The combo give you different versions of the birria including the consume. There is plenty of seating throughout the restaurant and parking is available as well.

Finally made it here! After two failed attempts, I finally had the chance to try some of Ed Fernandez's legendary tacos. My first two attempts were fails because they simply ran out of food. Little tip here. Their hours are from 6am-2pm. Get there early because they might sell out. So after trying the Chapacubra and Extremo queso tacos. I whole heartedly agree with the hype. Ed Fernandez does deserve 5 stars! The birria is so tender and flavorful. It's so juicy, I don't feel like you need to order the consome. Blasphemy, I know, but after eating a taco. My plate had a little pool of savory goodness. In saying that, you have to eat it there or soon after because your tortilla will drown and become soggy. The amount of meat is very generous. They do not skimp on portions. The location is kind of awkward. They're nestled in an area with a church a fire station a gas station and a liquor store. They do have a small parking lot, but maneuvering in there is kind of tricky.Overall, a must try on your list. It's not often we get a top rated restaurant in San Diego. Although I feel like we have so many restaurants that deserve a spot on that list.

I brought my visiting friend here to try something besides our usual go to spots and honestly I wish it were closer so I could come back more often. The food is consistently delicious and the staff is nice. The woman who helped us order took the time to explain the whole menu to us and was super sweet. I always feel bad holding up the line, but she didn't try to rush us at all. The cliff notes for the menu so you don't have to ask:*Quesataco = taco with cheese*Nervio = tendon*Paquete = corn tortilla fried in meat fat*Heche a mano = flour tortilla (not fried)*Eggtremo = with fried egg*Tatemado = meat is grilled & slightly crispy on the edges*Extremo = same as tatemado but with cheese?*Chupacabra = meat is grilled with onionsWe each ordered 3 tacos which was kind of a mistake because these bad boys are huge and we definitely would have been content after 2. If you have a low spice tolerance, ask for the salsa on the side because otherwise they douse your tacos with it and it is s p i c y. If you are getting this to go, definitely order the birria (16 or 32 oz) because they pack the birria with consome in a soup container and give you the tortillas + all the fixins on the side so you can make your own tacos at home and not have them be soggy. Plus then you can repurpose the leftovers and make yourself some delish birria ramen!

#1 for many reasons. Top notch in all aspects. Super clean place to eat. Well organized. Outstanding customer service from the time we ordered, got food & ate. All staff treated us like family/VIP's. Delicious Mexican food at a reasonable price. Today we had tacos. Our next visit will try the Chilaquiles. I highly recommend going here. Be sure to say hi to Jorge. Humble & good guy. Really delicious birria/quesabirria tacos south of San Diego! We went here on a Sunday later lunch, around 1pm, and it was fairly packed, but there is a dedicated parking lot for this restaurant so if the parking lot is not full, a parking attendant will, in an organized fashion, guide your car to an available parking spot.I tried the combo #1 which contains 4 different tacos - taco, quesataco, chupacabras, and extremo, as well as consome. All of them are beef, but each taco is a little different - there is a regular soft taco, a cheese shell taco, and a deep fried taco. All of them perfectly pairs well with the consome (broth). You can also add onions, cilantro, radish, and lime to further enhance the taco. Honestly, 3 of the tacos filled me up, so the combo with 4 tacos will be a large meal for one person.Food came out fast and the place was busy but there was not really a line either. Overall, I really enjoyed this fast casual type of birrieria.

My professor brought me and a small group of students here to celebrate our last day of class and she swore that it was the best birrieria she knew. It was slightly difficult to find parking as the small lot in front of the place was full. I ended up parking on the residential streets and walking a bit. You order at a window and there is a shaded seating area for people to wait. There is inside seating and a bathroom as well. I had been searching for a good restaurant that had authentic birria-- I had tried TJ Birrieria 664 and a couple other spots around San Diego but nothing impressed me to the point where I would give a 5 star review. I hate when the consommé is too salty/oily without the rich, layered flavour of the broth. The tacos have to be crispy enough to not fall apart when dipped but simultaneously not too crispy that it doesn't soak up the consommé. I was pleased to find that the quesabirria matched all of those criteria. The cheese added a nice touch to the explosion of flavors in my mouth. It is safe to say that I can trust this restaurant for very tasty birria when I am craving it!

Todo estaba muy rico, my favorite es La tostada de birria! Everyone was very nice, Fast and efficient! Definitely recommend stopping by if your in town!
