This was my first "fancy" dinner in Boston after moving back. The service and vibes of the restaurant are absolutely fantastic. Just make sure you get a reservation, cause it gets busy! We sat at the bar and the bartender was definitely nice, giving us solid recommendations and given us a show with different cocktails that were getting ordered. Best dish of all time here though was the Uni Shot. We loved it so much, we got 3 orders of it! It's the right balance of umami, savory, and herbs all packed in a single shot. We also got the Crispy Rice with spicy tuna. Great balance of crunchy and soft texture. I think next time, we're going to try it with the scallops. 100% would recommend ordering it again. The octopus ceviche was perfectly prepared with a great balance of sweet, spicy, and freshness from the onions and cilantro. And the Tamari Scallops had a nice pop in your mouth if you enjoy a sour + slimy texture. Sushi was incredibly fresh and tightly-rolled. We ordered the Douzo Special Roll, Sumo Roll, Mt. Fuji Roll, Backbay Roll, Spider Roll, Caterpillar Roll, and Volcano Roll. Would definitely recommend any of these again for next time. Soft-Shell Crab was tasty but the only thing that would be a 3/5 since it was just a basic fried soft shell crab with tempera sauce. Would've loved a little bit more salt/pepper to bring out the briny-ness of the crab. For Cocktails: Death Jam (4/5) - nice balance of sweetnessKabuchiko Martini (3/5) - definitely an interesting flavor to it, but probably wouldn't order it again Overall: it's definitely on the pricey-er side, so great for special occasions or if I wanted to splurge for some solid sushi.

It is just okay sushi. Not great but not horrible. And gari (sushi ginger) is spoiled. I hope they throw it away. It has been opened too and has rotton taste.

Douzo Sushi is a delicious, though pricey, sushi spot near Copley Place in Boston. Service was quick and relatively attentive and they did a good job of explaining some of the nuances in the dishes (for example the richness of the King Salmon vs the 'normal' salmon). We ordered a variety of rolls and nigiri which they brought out in a beautiful boat. The uni was tasty, though not incredible, and I'm unsure whether the extra $$$ for the king salmon was worth it. Drinks were tasty, though strong, so you get some good value for your money there. Restaurant was relatively busy which was a nice sign although can be slightly confusing on entering as there are two entrances (one via the Main Street and another through a building lobby).

I recently dined at Douzo for a special birthday celebration, which I had set up through OpenTable, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. The sushi, which was supposed to be the "chef's selection," was stale, tasted premade, and had a presentation that looked like it was taken straight from the refrigerator, plopped onto a plate, and served. One of the sushi pieces didn't even have nori all the way around it. The tempura was uneventful. The drinks took twenty minutes to arrive, and when they did, we found they were made with lemon juice and iced tea instead of lemonade, making them taste very sour, like drinking a glass of premade lemon juice. We had a nice server who did his best, and it wasn't his fault. We felt guilty for our dissatisfaction, but it was clear the manager seemed more focused on a table close by rather than addressing issues or ensuring all guests had a good experience. The name "Douzo" means "Please" or "Here you are" in Japanese, which makes it all the more ironic given our experience. The restaurant's service and quality fell far short of the hospitality implied by its name. On a bright note, there was still time to make it to Legal Sea Foods, where the staff greeted us with a great meal and a memorable birthday wish. It was a welcome end to the evening and a reminder of what good service and hospitality can be. Based on my experience at Douzo, I wouldn't recommend it.

Came here with a party of 4 on a Wednesday night. We made a reservation in advance, so we had no issue being seated. The restaurant itself is nice and quiet compared to some other places so it's easy to have conversation. The service was also very attentive and were on top of everything. We ended up ordering a couple of different items and did it family style. We got the chefs special Nigri, the chef special sushi roll, the jalapeño tuna roll, the jalapeño, salmon, roll, and a salad. For a drink, I got the Lychee martini. Honestly, I was pretty underwhelmed by the sushi and the nigiri. Don't get me wrong it was tasty but it wasn't anything crazy or special. In my opinion the rolls could've been larger and more filled with seafood. To me, it wasn't worth the cost. The lychee martini was absolutely perfect though! I will probably end up checking something else out for dinner next time I'm in the area but open to grabbing another cocktail there.

Oh Douzō... you were doing so well, and I was about to sing your praises! Then I made a "mistake"... I ordered the Spicy Yellowtail. That's when the experience took a nose-dive off a cliff. I initially ordered the Caterpillar Roll & Crunchy Roll. The Crunchy, while different than what I usually get, was fantastic. Crunchy and soft textures, and an interplay of savory, salty, and sweet flavors. The fireworks show that well-executed dishes should be. The cuts of tuna & salmon up top were very generous, so even though there wasn't fish inside, it worked for me. The cucumber added freshness, and the tempura and fried onion added crunch. Rounding it out, the mango sauce was not at all overpowering, lending a gentle sweetness. Meanwhile the roe added a pleasant, subtle salinity. The Caterpillar was a phenomenal iteration of one of my favorites: the eel/avocado/cucumber roll. While not as intricate and complex as the Crunchy, it still worked well. There was a fair amount of eel, which combined with the avocado and eel sauce amplified the soft, sweet, and savory flavors. The cucumber and spicy mayo, meanwhile, were subtle and not at all overpowering. The rice, up to this point, was high quality. Then, I made my "mistake." I was hungry for more and ordered the Spicy Yellowtail. Things went downhill a little, then a lot. First, the rice was mixed with scallions. Now, while I don't like scallions, I don't deduct points just because of personal preference. Where this roll went wrong is the sheer amount of tempura combined with a tiny piece of fish. Unlike the Crunchy, the fish was fully lost within. I brought this up to my server who offered to change it to one that is how they usually make it. Ok, great! I went for it. I ended up regretting my choice, especially since I didn't want to send something back a second time. What I was served reminded me of gas station sushi. The whole roll was a little limp and didn't look super-appetizing. Though, it's the taste where it really flopped. The yellowtail here was the kind that was pre-made: chopped, mixed with too much mayo, and stored in the fridge. Thus, a limp roll with a cold, bland, mayo-heavy filling, and nothing else. Especially after the Caterpillar and Crunchy, it left a bad taste in the mouth - pun very much intended. Finally, before I wrap it up (pun not intended this time), I have a few more points to share. Don't worry, these are positive!1. The service was excellent. It was speedy, knowledgeable, and attentive.2. The vibe is modern and upscale. So much so I questioned if I was underdressed, even though my daily attire is business casual.3. Their menu is fantastic in that there are pictures for most everything. Even with items I am familiar with, it was great to be able to visualize what I would be ordering before ordering it. It is due to their exciting menu that I want to give Douzō a second chance. However, one thing's for sure, I will be staying far away from the Spicy Yellowtail (or regular yellowtail, for that matter).

Douzo has great atmosphere and a nice layout. The service was excellent. I think I interacted with 3 different staff members in addition to my primary server. The food was pretty good but I feel like there's opportunity for improvement. The mushroom soup was bland and could've used some spicy oil or something to give it some flavor. The steamed gyoza was quite good and probably the best dish I had. The rainbow roll was ok but also could've used something extra. The wasabi didn't really provide any kick. I'd definitely come back but would likely try other rolls and skip the soup.

Our waitress here was really nice. She did a great job pacing the food that came out to us. We sat at a small high table and I think that the pacing of the food was really important because there's not much space. The rolls here are really good my favorite was the Phoenix. The salmon balls were really good. The Toro was also very nice. I really liked the kama here, it was deep fried as opposed to baked or grilled. I also liked the lychee drink that I got as well. I would definitely come back to try some of their other dishes maybe the skewers.

In route to eat at this restaurant I ran into someone on the street and they recommended this place, so I walked in with high hopes that did not disappoint! The cocktails were flavorful and delicious! The sushi was out of this were good. Like I wanted to like the plate the sushi was that good. The service was fine nothing bad and nothing exceptional you not so I am fine with that. The ambiance of the restaurant was typical of a mid-tier sushi restaurant. It wasn't the fanciest place, so I felt no need to be dressed up but it also wasn't a hole in the wall type feel.Price was mid range to expensive but the food was worth it. I definitely want to go back here!
