Donato's Taco Shop

One of the best taco shops in North County San Diego, hands down! I first checked out Donato's a year or so ago while working on a project nearby at the recommendation of a couple of my guys. Sure enough, the hype was real! Donato's affords it's customers with sizeable portions of great food at good prices. Every time I've picked up food from Donato's in the past it's been for crew sizes of 9-12 people and the orders have always been right. I also like that their hot sauces are pre-cupped because it makes it easier when picking up a big order versus having to fill a bunch on my own while holding up the line. This morning I was picking up an order of 19 burritos and boy, they nailed it! I called the order in yesterday afternoon for the burritos some of which had special requests and everything turned out great and as ordered. Additionally, they made taking the order and payment over the phone extremely simple and even texted me a copy of the receipt from their Clover system which made submitting my expense report very simple. If you are looking for a great place to pick up a large order, look no further because these guys also have party and catering options too.The ambiance is what you'd expect from a taco shop which I actually prefer. I care more about the quality of the food versus the interior décor. I was also shocked this morning to see that they knocked down a wall and put a little cantina area in off to the side which is great for people who want to spend some time there and hang out. I think that's an awesome little add-on they did. If you find yourself in the UTC or Miramar area and want some good Mexican food, definitely check out Donato's. These guys are awesome!

Service was very quick. Food was okay (could probably do with more flavor). I don't think I would go back for the chicken enchiladas, but may try other foods.

I was in the area and thought I would try Donato's the place has 4 stars on Yelp. I ordered the California Burrito and paid my $12.74. I asked the Woman taking my order to list the ingredients in the California Burrito. She listed Carne Asada, Fries, Pico De Gallo, Guacamole, and Cheese. I requested the Guacamole on the side. While waiting for my order I noticed that the menu board listed the ingredients as well. I was intrigued about their Chipotle Sauce and I asked if I could have a sample of it on the side. My thinking was that the next time In I might get it added to my Burrito if I indeed liked the taste of it.When my burrito arrived there was not a side or even a small taste of the Chipotle Sauce so I gain asked for it. The Woman at the Glass told me that if I wanted a sample of the Chipotle Sauce it would be $1.00. I reminded her that I just paid almost $13 on a burrito and doesn't that cover the cost of a small sample? She told me that I paid $13 for the Burrito because it was worth $13, anything else is extra. I was surprised at this comment but I bit my tongue, thinking that perhaps she was just having a bad day.I grabbed a couple of servings of Salsa and strolled to one of the outside tables to eat my Burrito. When I unwrapped it my first thought was wow! This thing is huge, she is right it is worth $13! But as I began to eat I found it was 90% potatoes. I didn't see any Pico, Cheese, I saw a very small amount of Carne Asada.Keep in mind I was starving, and I want about to let them cook another one for me (I'm sure you can guess why) So I ate about 40% of the Burrito just to get rid of the hunger pangs. I then took the remainder of the Burrito to the Front Counter and showed it to the Woman behind the glass.I told her that this Burrito while rather large is 90% potatoes, There is very little Meat on it and I don't see any Cheese or Pico De Gallo, it is NOT WORTH $13.Save your time and money stay away from Donato's Taco Shop

I really wish I would've discovered this Taco Shop a lot sooner. This is without a doubt, the best Taco Shop in the area and I think I've tried most of them. What makes this Taco Shop stand out Is they have amazing salsa , the restaurant is beautiful and their food is well above average. I love how early they open . I was able to order food at 6:30 AM before I went to work. That was awesome. . I highly recommend their Carnitas chimichanga. . It is without a doubt, one of the best chimichangas I've ever eaten . I love that they put enchilada sauce on it . I highly recommend eating at this restaurant .

Donato's has the same quality and menu items as many similar taco shops in the area. Their food is about equal to Rigoberto's and better than Roberto's. Their fish taco is not as good as Rubio's.Their lot is in a small shared strip mall with numerous other good restaurants. Parking may be a challenge. This location used to be a Roberto's many years ago. It seems like they did not change the interior or even the booths when they took it over. That is not a problem, just nostalgic. Thor pricing is slightly lower than comparable taco shops, but the quantity seems on par with others. The people who work here are usually friendlier than comparable shops and are not prejudiced like elsewhere or at least don't show it. On the whole, Donato's is worth a try to see if they make ur favorite menu items elsewhere to an equal or superior quality at a slightly lower price.

Enjoyed the hashbrown breakfast burrito 8/16/24. The habanero salsa was amazing. Fast friendly service.

Ordered online a Carnitas Buritto - in the notes box I asked for the carnitas to be crispy (well done) and then please add lettuce. The shop adjusted the grubhub total after I checked out by adding a $1.50 surcharge for the customization. Unwrapped the burrito back at my office to find cheese and french fries also added to my burrito. This isn't part of their Carntias Burrito description: Carnitas, Guac, and PIco de Gallo... I can't have dairy so this wasted my burrito. I also believe fries in a burrito is wildly innappropriate, even though I like pineapple on pizza. Not here to start something.Basically paid $15 for a burrito that was not what I ordered and the surcharge for a simple customization was basically $1.50 for lettuce.

The burritos are big here, completely packed. They're kinda pricey but definitely don't skimp at all. The salsa is super good, there's 3 different kinds. Plenty of space to sit. Service was quick and friendly. We don't live nearby but we would be back the next time we're in the area.

I had a pretty good bacon and eggs breakfast burrito from this taco shop for $9 and some change. It came with a decent amount of bacon. It could have used more bacon, however. It had a good amount of scrambled eggs and cheese. I thought the potatoes needed to chopped into smaller pieces, and they were definitely overcooked. They were too soft.The burrito came wrapped in a very good flour tortilla. They hot sauces they offer in the cooler are very good.Service was friendly. They have inside and outside seating.

This was a very good place, although I feel it was a little pricier than it should have been. Friendly service, and one of the cooks was singing the Spanish songs at the top of his lungs. The woman who took my order was also singing aloud, so they must have a lot of fun back there. The burrito came very fast, and was very hot, but delicious. The chips were just okay. It's a clean, nice place in a strip mall on Miramar Road. I liked it. Just wish the price was more in line.
