Yummy Korean bakery! Excellent textures. The customer service is confusing. When me & my daughter came in, the bakery case was empty (but their rolling pastry carts were full). The door was open but no one appeared to be inside other than a woman laying down talking on the phone. After a couple minutes I asked her if the bakery was open and she said yes. So then I figured out she worked there. Nothing was labeled so I asked her for her suggestions and she selected a Bavarian cream bun which was delicious, and a white bean pastry which we liked but a little less. It did have a nice subtle flavor though. The more questions I asked the friendlier the woman became. At the end I realized though that she wasn't wearing a mask (during COVID) when she moved a mask on the counter to the side so I could sign my receipt. A little unsettling since my 6 year old isn't vaccinated yet. But the pastries are good. So I would go back without my kid.

Tried 5 items from there and all of the breads seem to be the same. Fluffy, soft and quite good. The three flavors of bean paste are good too. The red bean was the sweetest which I'd pass on. The green and defiantly the white bean was far less sweet which I can appreciate. I honestly don't think it was done that way on purpose so I likely just got lucky. My favorite overall was the Custard filled bread. I'd go back for that. I've tried their peanut butter crumble bread before too. It was a little on the denser side, and a bit hard when I bought it from the grocery store so I'll defiantly try it fresh from their bakery next time.

DokIl bakery has been around forever on Lawrence ave....and I had visited often in the 90s. Well, they supply pastry for greater Chicagoland area through other Korean groceries. Yesterday, I had purchased a chestnut bread. It lists flour, sugar, eggs, milk, chestnut, salt and butter as its ingredients. I took a big bite out of it only to find hundreds of raisins in the bread that couldn't be seen on the surface!! Well, I'm allergic to raisins and it almost killed me. It is ILLEGAL to falsely list ingredients that are in the pastry. This is beyond ridiculous, and I will make a formal complaint with proper authorities. If you are allergic to anything like nuts or oil or such, remember that your life could be at risk by eating here.

Dokil Bakery is a small Korean bakery on Lawrence Avenue in the city that is easy to miss (next to a car repair shop). Have always came here for my sweet tooth fix, especially since their aren't many other Korean bakery's around the area. The peanut butter crumb bread and their mourning bread which has whipped cream is something I regularly get. Highly recommend this place

YUM-OH!! I just picked up a Dokil Bakery Cream Bread at the Main Oriental Market in Green Bay, WI. It's so good! Similar to a cream filled donut, but the cream is spread out through the bread, so you get cream in every bite- not just the middle. Also there is not frosting or glaze on top, but it certainly doesn't need it! It is a very generous service and will still fill you if it is split between 2 people- I plowed through it all by my-bread-loving-self! :)

On whim, we checked out this bakery. They have a vast selection of bean bread. They even have bean donut. I was not too fond of that, it was too oily and sweet. The bean manju was pretty good. We also tried the red bean and custard bread. They were a little too sweet for me and the bread was lacking something, maybe texture. Overall, this place is A-OK. I will probably check out other korean bakeries just for the sake of comparison. The lady that runs the shop is really nice. They have been there for a long time now.

If I had lived closer, I would be frequenting Dokil Bakery on a daily basis. Most of the baked goods offered could easily satisfy even the sweetest of sweet tooths without the accompanying sugar rush. Buns and rolls I have tried were good, but what really stood our were the mini trio of buns. Each one had a different bean filling -- from red bean to white bean to green bean. Clearly, this concept was designed for indecisive customers like myself, who never know what to get when faced with so many options.Another favorite treat of mine are the mini baked Korean white bean cakes, which are typically sold by the dozen, if not more. (See picture.) It takes quite a bit of self-restraint to not want to finish the entire package in one sitting. Price-wise, I don't find the bakery to be more expensive than the other ones I've been to. Quality, however, I find DB to deliver better than most. And if you feel like you're missing out on DB (and I'll admit that you are!), check out your local Asian groceries as they may carry some of the aforementioned baked goods as well.
