Love this Mexican spot in River West! The drinks are so good here, as is their food.My fav is definitely the california burrito! The fries and the cheese along with the hot sauce on the side is so good.I also really enjoy their shrimp taco and the tuna tostada - the chili crisp on top of the tostada is the perfect touch :)

I recently had the pleasure of enjoying brunch at Diego's, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. From the moment we walked in, the warm and inviting atmosphere made us feel right at home. The service was impeccable - our server was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. They made excellent recommendations and ensured that we had everything we needed throughout our meal. The brunch menu at Diego's is impressive, offering a delightful variety of dishes that cater to all tastes. I opted for the Breakfast tacos and it was absolutely delicious. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and the presentation was beautiful. My dining companions were equally thrilled with their choices, and we all agreed that the food exceeded our expectations. The drink selection was also fantastic, with a great range of brunch cocktails, fresh juices, and coffee options. The [Flor de morora (Mezcal Based)] I had was refreshing and complemented my meal perfectly. What stood out most about our experience at Diego's was the attention to detail and the overall ambiance. The decor is stylish yet cozy, making it a perfect spot for a leisurely brunch. We never felt rushed and were able to fully enjoy our time there.Overall, brunch at Diego's was a memorable experience that I would highly recommend to anyone. Whether you're looking for a place to gather with friends, celebrate a special occasion, or simply enjoy a fantastic meal, Diego's is the place to go. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

I visited Diego for their happy hour and highly recommend it! The atmosphere was vibrant and lively, perfect for hanging out or a relaxed date. They do have a nice patio too for when it's nice out. We tried the Wanga Tang drinks, which were served in small glasses but packed a flavorful and boozy punch. For food, we ordered the Mixta Tostada (with octopus, shrimp, and avocado), Tartare Tostada (with tuna tartare, sesame aioli, and onions), and Queso Fundido (with Monterey Jack, Diablo salsa, and tostados). Everything was fantastic! Our waiter was very attentive and provided excellent service.I will definitely be coming back!

My friend heard that the tuna tostada is the best item on the menu. It was delicious! However, I suggest getting another item if you plan on eating a full meal. The burger was recommended as well, and definitely hit the spot.I recommend splitting an order of the tuna tostada and hamburger between you and 1 other person. That amount of food was an ideal amount we thought. It's not a big restaurant, so definitely make a reservation if you want to come here during the weekend!

This West Loop restaurant nailed every aspect of my lunch date with my husband. To set the scene, it was a beautiful, sunny Spring Saturday and we were lucky enough to snag a table on the patio without a reservation. The ambiance was bright and authentic. Our server was one of the co-owners. She was so much fun, thanked us for coming in, shared some of the backstory of the restaurant and had great recommendations. There were a few minor hiccups with the service but they were at full capacity and the food more than made up for it. Drinks:- Cantarita had some kick to it so my husband loved it. - Manga Tanga was reminiscent of a piña colada. It's small but mighty, and very refreshing on a hot day. Starters:- Queso Fundido had the perfect level of spice and the cheese pull was beautiful. The chips are homemade - Chips Y Salsa Trio was phenomenal. Loved having 3 salsa options. - Plantains y Mascarpone was traditionally prepared. Could have eaten this for dessert. It truly sent both of us spiraling - it was THAT good. Textures were incredible. Mains:- Pescado Taco had a beautiful lime slaw, the batter was light and crispy and the cod was so flaky. Wonderfully prepared. - Never had anything like the Gobernador Taco. The caramelized queso wrap around the shrimp was next level. - Norteña tacos came in a crispy taco shell with the perfect touch of queso, guacamole, beans and crema. If you like steak tacos, these will blow your mind. - TJ burger.... Where do I start? I think All I need it's important you know this a top 3 burger in Chicago. So juicy, cooked perfectly, great amount of heat from the pickled jalapeños, dripping with sharp white cheddar, and has a touch of sweet compliments of the caramelized onions. I would go as far as to say this is the best casual Mexican dining in the city (outside of Pilsen). Keep shining, Diego!

After hearing the hype, I finally was able to give Diego a try in my neighborhood. It was a perfect day and we got to be there during Asada Sunday where the chef grills up carne asada in the patio all night until sold out. You can buy it in 1/2 or 1lb increments and it comes with all things to make tacos. It was so good! We also got some items from the regular menu including the gobernador taco and pescado taco. Both were great but the gobernador was the best and we had to order more. My only issues with this visit: We were seated for quite a while and no one had approached our table at all. I finally had to approach the host stand myself and they did send someone over. The drinks were also feeling a bit watered down from what my dining companions expressed. We will still definitely be returning to Diego!

This place is a must stop if you are looking for Cali-Mex vibes in Chicago. Small and locally owned which is a plus! Get the Carajillo (mexican espresso martini - but better) and Gobernador Taco to start and then you can't miss from there.

This place blew me away! The food is notches above what you'd experience with Mexican cuisine. Especially coming from Los Angeles originally, I'm thoroughly surprised at what Diego brings to the table. Adopting cooking techniques from Mexican natives, synthesizing from their own culinary sciences, don't let the cantina setup deceive you--- this is the expertise of fine dining without the extra layers of decor and service. This serves you two great things: sharing experiences from the learnings of gifted food lovers and the authenticity of what those learnings provide you. That octopus was the most tender I've ever experienced in any dish in my life! And their vegan options sacrifice nothing that the meat options have in terms of texture and flavor. The Mexican wines were surprisingly delicious! Their mezcal cocktails were equally memorable!

AMAZING! vibes are right, food is great, service is wonderful. Prices seem high but worth it. Hands down one of my favorite ceviches in the city. It's fresh and tangy and had the perfect crunch. One of my favorite items we got. You can't go wrong with the tostadas. We got the tuna tartare which was my BFs favorite and the the shrimp Mac tostada which was my favorite. The shrimp and mac was rich, creamy, filling, it almost gives you a seafoody Mac salad vibe. The tuna tartare was great. I feel like because I had the shrimp and Mac one first it took away from the tartares lighter flavor. It was still great. The fish is really fresh and elegant. It just didn't have as much flavor as the other one. We also tried the Diego burrito which honesty is the best hangover cure. The waitress said shrimp was her favorite version but we went with steak cause all our appetizers were seafood heavy. And oh my god I'm so glad we did steak. First they put an ample amount of meet in there. They cut the meat in small cubes and each of these cubes are packed with the juciest flavor burst. The craziest part about the burrito was although the meat is so juicy they managed to keep the fries inside perfectly crispy and plump. After all this food me and my bf were pretty full but we accidentally over ordered and had to take the burger to go. The burger wasn't my cup of tea but we also didn't eat it till hours after so I feel like I can't judge.

I like to describe Diego as approachable upscale Mexican comfort food in a lively atmosphere. The tuna tostada, the ceviche, and norteña taco are out of this world. If you are able to catch them on one of their Asada Sundays, I highly recommend it! They always keep their Instagram up to date with special events (@diegoxchi). From the creative drinks and great music to the fantastic staff, Diego makes everyone feel welcomed. I've been lucky enough to have large parties here for my birthday, a corporate outing with coworkers, friends from out of town, and date nights. They bring all of their creative talents together making Diego stand out from other restaurants in Chicago. I could not recommend this place more for any outing you have in mind!
