Went to the Whitney for thanksgiving dinner. The house itself was very cool and had the feel of a haunted old manor. Dinner was very good with the fixed menu of butternut squash soup, traditional turkey and dessert sampler.

Had high tea with my mother last month.Limited Valet parking, paid parking nearby on the streets. The high tea experience wasn't what I had hoped for at $125+ for two people. :/ We didn't get to pick our tea flavor at all, house tea was okay, but not what either of us would have preferred at all. The scones were maybe two small bites at most and quite minuscule. The cranberry and blueberry scones were okay, just itty bitty. The condiments for the scones were butter and jam, my mother and I were thoroughly disappointed with the spread. My mother's two favorite reasons for high tea, R. Claudette, cream and lemon curd, neither were present for our tea. Utter disappointment for mom and me. The tea sandwiches looked decent, but the breads were all dried out. The cucumber finger sandwich was really bland. The chicken sandwich itself was OK, but once again the bread was dried out and crusty. The pumpernickel for the smoked salmon was also dry and crusty. It seemed as if these finger sandwiches had been out for many hours or even made the night before. The deviled egg was super plain and boring and nothing special at all. The small caprese had a dried and steel piece of toast or crostini. The strawberries and cream was okay. The desserts were so-so. Nothing was carb worhy to either of us. The execution, taste, flavor, texture, staleness of everything was subpar for what I would expect of the Whitney. Our server, along with the others, timed out all their food runs to our tables around the same time. It felt like a cafeteria style dining for our high tea experience. Thoroughly disappointed in the experience that I waited for a couple years to schedule with my mother. We've been to many high teas all over Michigan and out of state in New York and Chicago and this was the most disappointing high tea. I've been to thus far.

Rating for Brunch. The ambiance and service were great ! Table was ready as soon as we walked in, and our server was attentive and eager to help with coffee and any other needs. The main issue is the food - it was bad and corners were cut. The coffee was weak and cheap, the cheapest possible sparkling wine was used in the house mimosas (wycliff) , the food was cold (chicken and rice was hot and tasty tho) , and the deserts were not made in house based on taste. The dining experience was like a bad church / wedding banquet - it shouldn't be marketed as a luxury experience. I've had better coffee at a gas station - please step it up and honor the beautiful space with appropriate food. Whitney would be sad if he tried this food.

The Whitney is great per usual, the Valentine's Day dinner slots are full so we came for the tea service in the afternoon. The spread was beautiful and tasty. The historic decor and candle lit table adds to the elegant ambiance.

The worst food I've tasted in decades. Any turkey tv dinner is heads and shoulders over what was served. The Whitney should be ashamed of themselves for intentionally cooking undeniably the blandest, worst texture, visually dull Thanksgiving meal to unsuspecting diners. I can't sit on this information. The Whitney as a destination is a historical mansion in Detroit, a rich ornate Romanesque $10 million dollar mansion. Our bill was $420.00 for four people. We had zero alcoholic beverages. The choice was a minuscule salad w/o any dressing OR soup, turkey (turkey loaf maybe from a can,not sure what it was) , stuffing (tacky, sticky, nasty nasty tasting) , green beans (fine) and a tiny trio of dry-bland desserts. Dear Whitney, I implore you to feed your family what you served Thanksgiving Day, 2024. I will never be back to eat one morsel. You took advantage today of people by luring them to your beautiful mansion, just to serve them inedible food, not even fit for a dog.

I don't even know where to start but to say I'm disheartened. This might be long. My parents were married in the beautiful mansion of The Whitney. I've heard the stories over the years and having recently moved to Detroit, I looked forward to visiting myself. I envisioned having a high tea for my birthday in June, but I waited too long and it sold out. As such, when I saw the opportunity to have Thanksgiving dinner here, I eagerly contacted my family and planned it. I was SO excited to take my parents to the place our family all started. I eagerly told my students about my plans as I expected it to be outstanding. Well.. to keep it short and simple, this felt like a sham. Within our three courses, we picked between soup OR salad, both of which were tiny portions. The salad had one drop of dressing. Unimpressed, we awaited the main course. Cheap packaged turkey, the stuffing was dense and sticky, the sweet potatoes had bizarre chunks... Also, the salad said it included butternut squash I believe, but it was an entirely different squash. My family barely touched it. Our expectations were on the floor by this point and the dessert definitely made no difference. I almost never leave a negative review, but I am beyond shocked-- I am EMBARRASSED! My family of 4 spent over $400 on this tiny, bland meal. Of course we were starving after. Even if you finished the meal, it wasn't enough. On a day KNOWN for big hearty portions, it was a mockery to give us this. If it was around $120 total, okay, I might not have complained. I would've just not returned. However, $420? Wow. I mean, I don't even know if any of this food was cooked in house. A home-cooked food holiday... I also saw an open time slot on their booking site and asked if I could change the time beforehand, but the girl on the phone told me I was incorrect in believing they had an open slot and they had actually overbooked.Well, the room we were in and the others were no where near full, but regardless, overbooking and pretending to be overbooked are both not a good look. She almost seemed confused that I would think the open time slot was.. open. I hope I don't sound rude as that is really not my intention. It just hurts to know my family gave up the tradition of cooking this year for what we thought was going to be a once-in-lifetime holiday experience. This meal should've never happened in our lifetime. Of course a refund would be ethical, but hey, they gave us a piece of the packaged turkey to take home so that's cool. The building was stunning though and the piano player was nice. Shout out to him. And the employees who at least did their best to make us feel welcomed...

We'd heard this place is nice. It's beyond that. Nicest venue in the Detroit area in my opinion. From a friendly greeting from valet parking, to host, seating, and service. It was wonderful. This is a 130 year-old mansion with numerous rooms on three levels. Perfect for special occasions or date night. If it's your first time here, they offer a free guided historical tour (do tip) and we'd recommend that. Ghost bar on third floor is cool.We were seated in the formal dining room. It was wonderful. There is a secret room off to the side here. See if you can find it.Service was perfect. Maddie gets an A+ for sure. Staff is obviously very well trained. A very well managed place. Manager stopped by twice. Nice guy. Very professional. We had the Beef Wellington. It was delicious. Nice portions too. Sides and bread were delicious too. Prices are reasonable for what they deliver.Enter off Woodward. Drive slowly - easy to miss the entrance. Use valet as other parking costs as much in area. Very happy we visited this spot. I hear Sunday brunch is fantastic. We'll be back.

Gorgeous space. Aesthetic is incredible. All of the recent reviews complaining of the food and the cost are spot on. Shameful the prices you pay for the food you get. My soup was barely lukewarm. My first pour of wine was half of what it should have been. Meh at best. Wouldn't return even for the vibes. Service was fantastic.
