The Mitten Cafe & Bakeshop

I was working around the area so I stopped in for a latte. I love supporting small businesses. It's a very cute place. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience. I was greeted with blatant attitude from the worker at the register. I asked for an iced latte with cinnamon and honey. The female worker at the register said, "a mitten latte", I said what's that? "Cinnamon and honey" (with pure attitude as if I should be an expert on a mitten latte), I said, "it's actually called a cafe Miel but sure." And I asked again to make sure, "it's just honey and cinnamon no syrup concoction correct? "Yes." I got the latte and I didn't taste any cinnamon. I asked if they could add more cinnamon. Most of the time you get a cafe Miel and you see the cinnamon. The same worker with her attitude, "it won't mix! If I put it on the top." I get where she is coming from but a good cafe Miel you use honey and legit just cinnamon and most of all places put a ton of cinnamon so yea it does get sometimes clumped at the top and that's why I like it. So she takes a shaker with pure sugar crystals and apparently there was cinnamon in it,that I couldn't tell you. She started shaking the "rock candy" in the latte. It was gross. But the attitude and it was just her the others were quiet. This is why I don't want to try new places anymore especially with the rising costs of everything. My coffee cake was caked with sugar crystals and dry, as well. Just disappointed in the interaction more than anything, I hope she's having a better day today.

GREAT COFFEE!! We live near the Mitten & get coffee about once a week. It's consistently great coffee! The breakfast options are wonderful too! The breakfast sandwich is our favorite. It reminds us of the time we spent in Paris. Pastries & croissants are great! Lunch options are great too. They change the menu for the seasons. The Pineapple Breeze is the best! Like a taste of Hawaii. The sandwiches and salads are great. You'll be happy no matter what you get!

A great place for a warm drink and snack or meal. A real hidden gem in Newport that deserves your attention. The white hot chocolate is really good.

Blueberry almond scones, lemon blueberry muffins, cinnamon rolls, cupcakes or happy cakes as my grandbaby calls them! Chicken salad croissant, Biscuits and gravy I could go on it's all amazing and amazingly fresh, as for coffee.. it's not my thing but a Mitten seasonal latte iced I'm all about trying them all!

I love this bakery and cafe! I was warmly greeted as soon as I walked in. The decor is very rustic, clean and welcoming. And their display cases and tables were filled with delicious looking baked goods. I ordered 3 orders of the biscuits and gravy for my family, along with 2 huge (warm) cinnamon rolls and 6 cutout cookies. I loved everything except for the biscuits and gravy. The gravy was bland, and the biscuits didn't taste homemade (I guess I'm spoiled living in NC). But, those cinnamon rolls were heavenly and the cute mitten and tree cutouts were very tasty. Next time I'm in town, I will definitely be back!

Really cool place! Excellent food and pastries and, according to my wife, great coffee. I would definitely go back and highly recommend.

Family owned, local business with amazing food, coffee and baked goods. Friendly staff and great atmosphere! I recommend the build your own breakfast sandwiches, the pesto egg sandwich, the mad hatter salad and anything sweet!!! Seasonal specials are always amazing! Great selection of coffees and flavored teas. I typically visit at least once a week---so worth it!!

So, I am a new truck driver. Just spent my first night in the lot outside of the huge Meijer distribution center in Newport, Michigan (halfway between Toledo and Detroit on I-75.)After a waking from my sleep, I ventured out of my truck, when another driver pointed me toward the Mitten Café.OMG let me just tell you, this place is an OASIS. Maybe some of my elation is simply due to being in desperate need of coffee, but from the moment I walked inside this establishment, I was impressed. The vibe, the friendly staff...I ordered a vanilla latte. Pretty straightforward. But it was really good! Then I noticed on their chalkboard that they serve actual breakfast items. (As if the massive, gorgeous blueberry muffin in the display case wasn't enough...) I ordered a pesto egg sandwich that was A-MAZING and, it was only $5.99! (Worth at least a few bucks more.) Two perfectly done over medium eggs with diced tomato, cheese, pesto sauce and it was actually grilled on a real grill! Let me just say, I live in Dayton O-H... (Did I just hear an I-O?) Dayton has some incredible independent coffee shops. Third Perk, Ghostlight, Press... so I know what I'm talking about. My words are trustworthy and true. If you're ever up this way, you have to stop at the Mitten Café!

One of the best sugar cookies I've ever had! Amazing customer service and the bathrooms were super clean. Definitely coming back
