HORRIBLY DRY CHERRY NUT CAKE WITH BARELY ANY NUTS AND TERRIBLE FLAVOR. Every piece that was cut was falling apart because it was so dry.

Went for snowballs and left with cookies, cake and bread! All the best and still thriving. This bakery is a classic, with perfect buttercream and the best butter cookies in the country! Hands-down. The best!

They need to show some respect to their customers and the neighborhood like they do with their second location and paint or get a new sign.

Sweetheart Bakery did our wedding cake and dessert table and our guests talk about how good it was every time we see them! The whole staff was friendly, prompt, and saw our vision of our cake perfectly. Truly professional and passionate about their work. Our dessert spread included cupcakes, mini cake,Eclairs, cannolis, and macaroons. They were such a hit and the cupcake filling was to die for. Our wedding cake had so much beautiful detail and was so tasty.I would recommend them for any of your special events or family gatherings!Stop by and give some of their goodies a try!

Poor customer service and communication . On Friday I call to get a cake for Saturday afternoon they said they would be able to do it but I would have to come in and place the order. I say ok I will be in there. I check the time and it say they close at 6pm. Not ONCE did the lady say they was closing early. So I get off a work at 5 I was at the bakery by 5:09 exactly! Doors locked I call. They pick up and say we closed I explained to her that online says they close at 6. She said "well it's 5 and we ready to walk out the door" I asked if I came in the morning first thing could I have it by 2? She said "NAW I'm not gone have no decorator and I MIGHT be able to get some writing on a cake if I'm lucky" Won't be getting my business ever again

I used to love this place years ago. Unfortunately they fell of a little over the last five years or so. I still go for the occasional cupcake every now and then though.I went today because I promised my daughter and niece cupcakes as a treat off they were good to grandma while I went grocery shopping. I stored in and the quality of the products was just about the same as it normally is. However I was disgusted because of the three employees at the front counter only one was wearing a mask ( and she had it pulled down beneath her face and nose, so I can't even see her point in wearing one). The point of males is to protect others from your germs, so I would suspect of you are handling ready to eat items in the age of COVID 19 you would wear a mask. I left without cupcakes and just got them store bought ones at the grocery store. It's sad that the businesses our community has patronized for years doesn't care enough about our health to do something as simple as have all employees to wear masks. This shouldn't be optional.

Oh my, while on my last visit I was able to visit Sweetheart Bakery again. Talk about not being disappointing, I couldn't not have been more pleased! The customer service was spot on as soon as I entered the small bakery and the cupcakes, red velvet and strawberry/vanilla batter were outstanding! Also, if you enjoy soft chewy peanut butter cookies, it's a must have. So, if you are on the East side of Detroit and you want a hidden gem, Sweetheart Bakery is the spot for you! Enjoy!!!

The sour Dough Rye Bread is the best around, but they consistently give bread bad use by dates. I buy at Nino's and this happens every single time - date is tomorrow

I have never ever saw a bakery that don't have donuts. I can go at 11:00a.m. they say they open at 6:00 a.m. no donuts. They sold out. Then one of the employees told me that they won't have them till after 2:00 p.m. I have been coming to this bakery for over 30 years. There is something strange going on in there!

If I could give this -5 stars, I would. Despite reading/hearing bad reviews from multiple people, I still decided to give Sweetheart a try, for sentimental reasons, since it is where my parents got their wedding cake 50 years ago. Big mistake.DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY WITH THIS BAKERY. I ordered a 9" round cake for my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary. Cherry Nut. Whipped Frosting. A basic design/wording. Sounds easy enough, right? WRONG. * Wording was in the wrong color* Wording was not put on cake as instructed and clearly written out on order form* More roses put on cake and in different position than example I was shown* They added a ruffle/ribbon around top edge when asked not to.* I could have overlooked some of this is the cake was amazing....but THE CAKE WAS TERRIBLE. The cake had an awful taste and it was SO DRY, pieces were falling apart as we cut them. I drove 30 minutes to the bakery twice to place my order and then make a few updates, because I was warned by one of the employees to not try make changes over the phone. As soon as they opened the box I noticed the mistakes. Did it look pretty? Sure. BUT IT WAS NOT WHAT I ORDERED. The women who took the order/changes took it correctly, whoever was in the back baking/decorating dropped the ball. And then nobody does a double-check to make sure the cake is what the customer ordered?I was then told there was nothing they could do, and was given the option to pay the balance I owed and take the cake, or leave with nothing. It was like I was the guilty person for not liking the cake that THEY DID INCORRECTLY! It was disgusting the way the woman in the bakery acted. I needed a cake for the 50TH ANNIVERSARY DINNER, told them I am not paying the balance for mistakes they made. We argued for 15 minutes and finally one of the women told me to take the cake and go to my parents anniversary dinner.
