Sushi Japan is hands down the best bang for your buck in Birmingham! The sushi is incredibly fresh, the prices are super reasonable, and the quality is top-notch.I first went with my boyfriend and was so impressed that I had to come back the following week with my brother--who's pretty picky when it comes to sushi--and even he was blown away. The torched salmon roll was absolutely to die for!If you're looking for amazing sushi without breaking the bank, this is the spot. Highly recommend!

Let's start with the name of this place - it's an issue. It does not do justice to the breadth of the menu that they offer. Fortunately, I had heard that they had a lot more to offer, but not every potential customer has that benefit.Also, I had to get past the fact that the last time I was in this space it was an Einstein Bagels. It looks totally different, but I used to spend a lot of time there and it was kind of weird to be back.On to the important stuff - the food! I juts stopped in on an unplanned visit while I was in town for something else and decided to bring home dinner for me and my wife. I kept my choices conservative and got stuff I knew she would like - fried dumplings, chicken fried rice and orange chicken. While my choices were not very adventurous, everything was really good! We look forward to going back and trying out more of the menu!

Classic Asian restaurant with great quality food and quick service. We enjoyed a couple of apps as well as entrees and everything was delicious. Started off with some sushi and Korean chicken. Then for dinner had stir fried chicken, bomb m noo. Sushi, and a poke bowl. Really loved everything as was very fresh. Loved the combo of the polo the best tho. Recommend!!

Taking all things into consideration, knowing I'm coming in during the evening on Memorial Day. As soon as I walked in I noticed the absence of sound. Which could be good or bad depending on the person. No music was heard and minimal chatter. A calming place indeed. Only one server on deck and seems to be working dine out orders as well. Wonton soup - 8/10----homemade dumplings are always great to see. And the sesame oil was definitely present. Kung Pao Chicken - 10/10 ----lean chicken and easy to chew. The texture was on point along with the sauce. Cooked carrots, celery, and onions mixed in. I cant critique this. Grilled Chicken roll - 7/10---- very tasty, although dry. Might be a good idea to pair with spicy mayo. Could not find a teriyaki chicken roll. But if they had it, I would've ordered that instead. Overall - 4/5 ---- pretty good spot amongst even more boujee restaurants. Doesn't specialize in just rolls but is a mix of all Asian foods. So if you don't like sushi, don't hesitate to try this place!

A good go-to spot that is not too pricey and doesn't have too many extra bells and whistles. The service was nice and fast, and they were really kind. Everything was really solid but nothing stood out. The fish was fresh but didn't melt in your mouth fresh, but glad there weren't rolls with massive amounts of cream cheese.

I wish I could give this place 10 stars... the food was all super yummy. Everything we tried was delicious and fresh! The service is what we totally fell in love with- wish I remembered our servers name :( she is the sweetest and most fun ever! If I lived here this would be my go to sushi spot. OK right up front let me say that this review relates to Sushi. The first word in the restaurant's name is sushi. So, perhaps foolishly, I expected them to specialize in sushi.Turns out many of the best reviews relate to the great Bi-Bim-Bap. Bibimbap is KOREAN, and a mixed bowl--NOTHING to do with either sushi or Japan. And then other people like General Tso Chicken. Again, Chinese (not Japan) and fried (not sushi).Naively, we ordered an unagi and avocado roll, a spicy tuna roll, and a tiger tempora roll. All were very average. None of the fish seemed particularly fresh, and the tempura tasted of old, over-used grease. The service was ok, but limited since we ordered takeout. Ambience--place looks cute outside and was half full. Just kinda "meh."So ratings--first 0 for the name. It should be called FUSION instead of Sushi and ASIAN instead of Japan. Sushi --3 very average. Everything else--meh. Will I rush back--NO.I suggest Adachi, which is about a block away, or Ronin in Royal Oak, or Noble Fish in Troy, all of which have far far better sushi.

Sushi was pretty good. Hot and sour soup pretty good too. Kung pao chicken was terrible! Almost no vegetables in it and it tasted like chicken covered in soy sauce. No spice or kung pao flavoring at all. My friend's orange chicken was good though. I will go back but will order differently.
