I would have to agree with everyone else's reviews about this place. Me and my fiancé visited this place for the first time, and were in high anticipation to experience good music and good food. Well, we did not get that......the food was gut wrenching awful!!! The food was cold, over cooked and not tasty at all! The waitress was also confused, and disorganized. Food service was ridiculously slow! I looked at my fiancé and said "what is really going on". This was our first time there and we were not impressed at all. This place was disconnected in so many ways. We ordered drinks and they were "STALE" (yep you heard me). You can definitely tell it was alcohol left over probably from the pandemic that had gotten stale :(I just could not believe this place. Shame on the owner though, you have a SOUL FOOD restaurant (food that, if cooked right, is a warranted amongst every race, creed, and nationality) with no competition for literally about 15-20 miles from that location, yet you can't even cook "TASTY" soul food? Something's definitely wrong here...........Please make it make sense sir!

Located inside the food court at Lakeside mall. Honestly this location deserves to be in one of the plazas outside of the mall! The cook was so nice, and he let me get the catfish dinner for the price of the catfish nuggs. The food came out fast and was hot and fresh! 10/10 definitely recommended(Not pictured a Grape Faygo float)

This is for anyone wondering where they relocated which is to Lakeside Mall food court- soul of Detroit 2! Not sure where the promotion or marketing has been BUT here you are. So!let's chat- I ordered the turkey chops and Mac n cheese. Chops were good but the Mac- nope! I would try them later in the day once the Mac has settled and fully cooked. I was forewarned by staff AFTER I got my order. If you ate at the old location- I know it was just a bad day.

Very much just ok. We only came here for drinks. We weren't in a rush but the service was slow. It was happy hour and there were a decent amount of people there. There was only one bartender and she was hustling but she couldn't keep up. Happy hour prices were decent the first drink I had was just ok. It wasn't bad but it also wasn't good. My dad's glass of wine had lipstick on it. When brought to their attention they did graciously pour a new glass. But we sat there for two hours for two drinks. We were expecting live music and a guy was setting up for a while but then just played music from a computer. We wanted to hear the live music but never did.

Still my favorite restaurant for delicious meals and great entertainment We two birthday parties here when they newly opened... bomb! Excellent

Live jazz at Soul of Detroit, what a great listening room. Reminds me if the intimacy of Bakers keyboard lounge, detroit, and preservation hall, New Orleans. Food is very good, special southern fare. Fried Okra. Catfish, pickerel. Corn bread. Spicy wings.Pork Chops, smothers. Need to stop in for food and live music.

I really wanted to love this place and give it 5 stars but the truth is, it still has some kinks to work out. They are located in Lakeside Circle where the old Ram's Horn used to be. There is plenty of parking outside. The decor inside and out is very inviting. The menu is large and varied...but here is one of the 'kinks' a lot of the items listed on the menu aren't available. We came at dinnertime and ordered 1/2 slab of ribs for mom and rib tips for me. The meals come with cornbread and two side items. We both ordered the string beans and potatoes as a side item. 20+ minutes into our wait we were told we would have to wait an additional 30 minutes if we wanted that side item...what? Sooo I ordered a side of greens and mom ordered mac n cheese. I also ordered a side of cornbread stuffing which was so dry I couldn't handle eating it. Mom's other side was beans and rice, it too was super dry. We never got the cornbread and I had to ask about it. Mom and I love cornbread so we were looking forward to it. Had I not inquired we never would have received it. I was told something about it not being ready and if we wanted we could have some to take home when we left...what? OK -yes, I asked for the cornbread to go home and try it later. None of the items were very hot, some of it was pretty warm and some was kinda warm/cool - overall the texture and temperature needs improvement. Now, the good part: The ribs were excellent! The BBQ Sauce on the ribs was some of the best I have ever tasted. Mom said the sauce was good because there was honey in it. They have a full bar with decent array of items at decent prices. They have a stage where live jazz music is played on Friday's and Saturday's. Our server was top notch. Our server was pleasant, patient, professional and just overall very friendly and efficient. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We will be back to see what breakfast is like. There was only one server for the entire place and I'm assuming by the pace of food being served there is only one cook. I believe this place has A LOT of potential but if they don't iron out some of their cooking kinks it could go south fast as there is a lot of competition in this area.

I work at Lakeside Mall and had heard great things from other Lakeside employees about Soul of Detroit. Today, I ordered the chicken BLT wrap and I have to say, this is the best wrap I've ever had in my life! The chicken was perfectly seasoned, and moist! All the ingredients tasted fresh and delicious, I'm so happy I finally decided to give it a try! The lovely lady taking orders was also kind enough to deliver our order to store! Great food and great experience !

I went to this restaurant with great hopes since it's not many soul food places in this area... only one other one and they always closed (10x's better soul). So I'm like finally another soul food place. The decor looked nice but they are extremely understaffed. Waited ten min to be seated. Once seated seemed like the whole restaurant was waiting on food and seemed pissed. Even carry out was waiting a long time. People started walking out. Other people screaming it's hair in they food. And the bartender never showed up that day so the drink that was ordered tasted like juice. And to top it all off my food never came out I waited over a hour and no food.... I had enough so I just walked out! Sad Becuz it has potential just no Execution. One waiter and one chef and one bartender.

Place an order online and they were closed when I went to pick my food up.... Now I have to call my bank and get my $62 back. I went here 2 years ago when I saw them on tik tok and the food was great but since they've been in the mall they are barely open.
